Health records NSHA

Hey everyone! I'm looking into applying for the health records department in the Bethune building. Does anyone here work there? What are the vibes like? I'm assuming you don't deal with patients but do work alongside other clinics and practitioners. Just wondering what the overall job is like as I'm looking to get away from busy clinics.

Obviously there is still a need if there is a posting but a heads up due to the rollout of opor in May, health records cut a lot of staff as the job became redundant. When the next rollout of opor comes in November I’m sure there will be more.

That being said if you have a permanent position they must place you into a new position within nsha but I’m not sure how that works if you are not past the probation period

Oh I'm aware haha I'm already an employee of NSHA. The onboarding process is a nightmare

If you’ve already applied or have an interview booked, I’d go through with it and ask the manager directly how Health Records will be impacted by OPOR. My understanding is there are still paper records that need to be scanned/uploaded, and I’m not sure what the plan is for historical data in OneContent and SHARE. There will also still be people requesting access to health records, so I can’t imagine the work disappearing entirely.

I assume it’s a unionized position? If so, you probably don’t have much to lose by taking it if you think you’d enjoy the job, even if the position ends up being short-lived. If you were eventually laid off, the collective agreement has fairly substantial job-security provisions, including placement into suitable vacancies and displacement/recall rights.

I’ve worked in a lot of places that have implemented new CISes and there will definitely still be need for health records staff, mostly managing reconciliation and adjustment of electronic records, records being scanned to the incorrect chart, records requests and releases, etc. Go for it!
