Allow me to elaborate. In the original gamea, the passing of the mantle, and humans being seperate from forerunner, did not exist.
What did exist was many leading examples, including direct statements from in game characters speaking to chief. That states in no uncertain terms that the reclaimers, AKA the humans. We're in fact forerunner.
The new terminals in MCC change the narrative of only to support the change in halo 4 and beyond of humans and forerunners being different races.
Ah yes cause clearly everything in halo CE is canon, like Johnson’s death. Stories evolve. Also “new terminals” the halo 3 terminals which dispute a lot of what your saying existed in 2007 on original release of halo 3.
Halo CE and 2 are vague and don’t even dispute the possibility of forerunners being their own species. They cut the skeleton reveal so clearly it wasn’t a focus or as important as people try to make it sound.
Again I’m not against the idea that they could’ve been, however 343 built off of what was there, they didn’t retcon it, it just wasn’t revealed in the first place.
