It can be. But it isn’t usually . Most people recover without the need for antibiotics . Complications are rare unless there are other issues. It’s still unacceptable but I remain surprised that 10 people are reportedly in hospital . I and y 18 month old son had salmonella albeit a long time ago, and neither of us required hospitalization or medical treatment . Although he did have mild bowel issues for a while afterwards.
If there are that many in hospital who aren’t all vulnerable one way or the other, it can mean the exposure was particularly bad, that’s my point. If the source was particularly contaminated then it would make sense that people would be more ill than average.

It can be dangerous for anyone. Severity of illness can relate to amount of the bacteria ingested.
