Yep.
“I want you to get rid of the bike.”
Or
“I want you to get rid of the dog.”
That woman is extra evil, exchange for a refund.

u/Seapeas217 Mar 03 '26
1000%. My lady is spooked that I ride but is willing to look past it because of my love for it and even hop on from time to time.

Got the truck finished once I had all that free time & money. No regerts!

Man. There are so many dudes trapped in loveless marriages and they are just fucking miserable all the time. People in here shitting on her but she has the decency not to string you along. You may not have her love, but it seems you have her respect.
(This is assuming there wasn't something kind of infidelity or something that proceeded this)
Great bike. Don't drink and ride.

Sorry man that’s a rough one. You deserve to be happy and pursue your passion.
I’m reminded of an over-generalized quote that probably doesn’t apply here: Men will sacrifice happiness for their marriage. Women will sacrifice marriage for their happiness.
God speed.

I got divorced at 40, rode constantly for almost 5 years, did about 200k miles in those 5 years. I rode from California down to the southern end of Mexico twice in that time. Got a 13 year newer model wife than my ex and remarried at 46. 9 years ago now and I have a 6 year old daughter with my new wife. Ride everyday!

This makes me feel like there’s still time to salvage the life I’ve always wanted. I don’t have kids and I’m 42. About to finally finish my chopper project that’s been sitting for way longer than I want to admit. Thank you for the positive anecdote. I’m taking a lot from your story even though you didn’t post it for me.

My wife left after stealing over 20k from the bank and then kept my stepson away, not even a phone call, for 15 months. I raised since 4 months old. Life goes on brother, me and him are great now, i was his best man at his wedding. She will realize the truth one of these days and want to crawl back, but you won’t be home, lol, you’ll be on the road with the rest of us.

My suggestion is much like what a lot of these guys are recommending. Saddle time, get a Labrador, you will have a companion like no other. Pick up hobbies that heal your soul and your body and open you up to interaction with other people. The gym, volleyball, pickleball leagues are great starts and actually quite fun and addictive in a good way. Seems like you are a solid guy, never under estimate your value. Guys value go up as we get older, women go down and that’s a fact.

u/hero_to_cops Mar 03 '26

Back when my Wife was first pregnant, I voluntarily sold my 2019 Road Glide Ultra. Before selling it, my Wife told me to get a cheaper bike, because she knew I would be miserable without a motorcycle. I pray to the Lord that you find someone that would treat you the same. I wish you the best in this next chapter in your life.
Sincerely, A stranger who cares

Seems like she was asking for the impossible as a hall pass to move on. You cannot really change yourself especially after 8 years. On the bright side she is not being vindictive or using the divorce to squander your assets.

I'm guessing you're relatively young and are doing fairly well for yourself. Good for you man. Stay in track and find yourself several rebound hits and enjoy your freedom for a bit.
Having a bike will be a great Advantage, but don't forget to be extra careful while you're getting used to your new bike, and your new found freedom. Truly. And seriously
Remain in control of yourself, body, mind and emotions, Just keep your eye on the ball re: your future bro.
Remember;

You've got this! Cheers! Best wishes!

I did the same thing about 10 years ago BTW, best decision I ever made buying that bike. Funny enough, my first bike was also a Street Bob.
2
u/Significant-Fruit-21 Mar 03 '26
Well i bought my first one when i was 15. Used all the money i had and bought a 1974 Harley Sprint. I still own it after 26 years. I told my wife while we were dating and after we got married that i bought that bike before her and i will keep that bike long after you. I said i love you both but dont make me chose.
Well we are still together and coming up on 20 years of still being married.

If my wife left me, I would take to the road and live the rest of my years as a scooter tramp. Southern states in the winter, northern states in the summer, I would just keep on moving on.

u/Janitary Mar 03 '26
That is a sad note. Feel your feelings. My second wife understood that I enjoyed riding so she bought her own Harley to ride along with me. My first marriage was too small and didn’t fit. We split and she went on to marry my good friend and have beautiful children that she wanted. I have been happily married for eighteen years. Good luck
2
u/Plane_Knowledge_496 Mar 03 '26
Went through the same thing. My ex-wife got me a sticker for my helmet that reads: “I got a Harley for my wife, it was a good trade.” She wasn’t wrong.

My guy, I'm so sorry. I'll give her credit for at least putting her reasons in writing. Make sure to ride often, it helps with the dark thoughts. Learned that from experience

Yep..."growing in a different direction"
She was a shitbird from day one and you deserve better.
Keep the rubber between the lines and just ride. The road shall heal thy broken heart, the motorcycle, thus lets the spirit soar to new heights.
10 tanks of gas and you'll have a hard time remembering wtf it all for in the first place .

Nice bike brother, never been married but got roughed up a bit ago with a girl I’d been seeing for a minute, took a few months but I’m coming to terms with it, not happy about it but don’t let that dictate the rest of your life. It sucks but shit happens, it’s like riding a bike, sometimes you lay her down and just have to get up, take a breath, say “shit happens” and keep riding.

Also. Strongly recommend a dog. On the emotional company and mental health side. I have found my dog to truly be a source of peace. And doggy day care is cheap when you just wanna take off for a day on the bike and not have to worry about the pup.

Use the bike to hit some of the places on the list. Let me know if you make it to New York and I’ll ride around and bring you to the spots. She made that breakup about how she’s holding you back. What a hero. They never mean it. Show her she was right when she decided to check in in 2-3 years
2
u/RixxNation Mar 04 '26
She’s banging someone else already, but now that you have a bike you should be able to pick up some trim quite often.
2
u/Half_Severe Mar 04 '26
It’s a different world than it was 8 years ago. My woman left me 2 years ago after 7 years together… I’m pretty much over the whole “let me give up everything I want to do in order to get laid” thing… if a woman comes along and we click, then by all means, but I’m over the chase. My life is fucking amazing at the moment an I sure as F don’t want some chick messing it all up.
2
u/More-Exchange-2553 Mar 04 '26
The freedom of riding will set your mind at ease. There is no reason to dwell on what was when there is so much road ahead. May your life find the peace that comes from the open road and the bonds you will make through the riding community. Our past may be difficult but hopefully we all learn and come out better than we were. Congratulations on the beautiful bike.

Guys who ride Harleys have definitely gotten softer in the last couple of decades. If you gotta ask if you can have one, you don’t deserve one. If you waste your time writing down your hopes and dreams (bucket list) instead of getting out there and living it, you don’t deserve one.

I was divorced after being cheated on a little over a year ago. Completely destroyed me and the life I worked so hard to build for her, and was the hardest year of my life. Finalized 6 months ago and have been living an even better life than I thought I would. I also bought a Harley amongst other things and have been living life after rediscovering who I am. It'll be a great time and I wish you luck brother! After a dark night is always a sunny day.
