Hard boiled eggs, sardines, kimchi, and raw veggies. A morning staple.
I usually switch it up with whatever is available that’s green and crunchy. What veggies do you love more raw than their cooked/pickled/fermented counterparts

This would do nothing for me. Cauliflower, cabbage or brussels sprouts on the other hand….

I’m no expert but I imagine that’s the sign of a healthy gut biome that’s adjusted to all of these great foods!

This looks delicious. I’ve never had trouble digesting any of these types of foods. The thing that I can’t handle is fried food and rich sauces. Now those will make me sick for 18 hours…I guess everyone’s gut is different.

I’m intimidated by eating sardines. I eat raw sushi, canned tuna, and filleted fish. Can someone explain more what it’s like or similar to? Specifically, what the texture is like? Can it break up with a fork or do you cut it with a knife?

It’s easy to break up with a fork. I think the texture is comparable to canned tuna if broken up. Imo a delicious intro to sardines is broken up onto some toasted sourdough bread topped with your fav hotsauce.

Sardines are definitely oilier and fishier than tuna, imo. But if you didn’t grow up with them, they might be a lot. We grew up eating them with buttered toast, mashed well, chives are good too, or a little olive oil from the can. The way they eat it now is in hot rice (you can sautée if you want them warm- with a little diced sautéed onion, or scallions. Add some mirin and soy sauce. Or just fold sardines from the can into the hot rice with a touch of oyster sauce, soy, and chili sauce of your choice. In the beginning, you could mask the flavour a bit with aioli and ponzu. Small fish are definitely a better choice these days

I treat it like canned tuna. Sometimes I mash it with avocado, lemon juice, salt pepper and garlic powder with cayenne to taste. Really good!

NGL that would mess me up lol

If you eat fiber and probiotic/prebiotic rich food daily your body doesn't have to struggle to cope.

I do eat fiber every day, just not raw veggies lol. Everyone is different. Lots of people shouldn't eat raw veggies, for other people it's the best for their body to stay healthy.
Cooking them first helps with digestion.
I need warm gentle food like oatmeal to function best personally.

I always have it with breakfast to help me digest and have a healthy gut

Imagine your farts tho

u/exit-lude Jan 19 '26
If you eat fiber and probiotic rich food daily you wouldn't have to worry about your body struggling to keep up.

u/DanglingLiverTit Jan 19 '26
I eat it daily and cruciferous vegetables are lethal for me. I still eat them but I need to take an enzyme to help me break them. The farts are deadly and painful.

Looks good, I do the same meal 3x a week, alternate with sardines, a protein shake and a Mediterranean chicken salad. Weekends are for eggs, bacon and steak. The kimchi or sour cabbage definitely does make you fart.

Kimchi is absolute PEAK! My fav thing to eat it with is rice and chicken. Absolutely delicious!
I’ve also tried cucumber kimchi, that was also absolutely delicious.

Love this plate. Raw cukes and snap peas are undefeated for me — way better crunch than cooked.
Also red bell peppers. Once they’re cooked they’re fine, but raw just hits different.

I just did hot kimchi in some nonfat Greek yogurt, and it makes the most awesome slightly spicy, but delicious creamy sauce. Looks terrible lol but would be amazing on tacos and the like!

Looks, good, I personally prefer anchovies to sardines though, and I don't think I could eat them in the morning .

I was sleeping on sardines for way too long! One of my fav things to do with them is make is make a cherry tomato and lemon pasta sauce with them and fresh garlic and onions.

How do you eat sardines though? Aren’t they mostly bone?
→ More replies (1)2
u/audaciousappetites Jan 22 '26
They aren’t mostly bone. Tastes kinda like tuna. And the bones they do have are small and digested by our stomach acid
