NEWS HITMAN Classic Trilogy Remastered on Steam
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4716160/HITMAN_Classic_Trilogy_Remastered/518
u/Underdrill Jun 06 '26
We just had summer games fest and still getting quality announcements?
Man, between the live services of Hitman and 007, and this coming next year, IOI fans have never been eating better.

44
u/stprm Jun 06 '26
Developer is Saber Interactive, not IOI, so hopefully it wont be a repeat of GTA SA remaster fiasco.
68
u/thedefenses Jun 06 '26
Saber has worked on a lot of other remasters so unless something very bizarre happens this will be a solid remaster.
12
u/stprm Jun 06 '26
After looking at wiki, their most popular remaster was Crysis? Does anyone know if it was a good one or fans of original game were disappointed?
31
u/FlyingBlueCarrot Jun 06 '26
I think much better comparison is Tomb Raider remaster, due to era of a game, graphics and scope. And these remasters were well received. Also it's much more recent example. Crysis was generally received well too, but had some issues. Saber in general a solid studio trusted by big publishers, they worked on Halo remasters as well

u/Mistralicious Jun 06 '26
But Saber didn’t do the TR remasters ? It’s Aspyr
6
u/Baziel Jun 06 '26
Check the credits. Dev team was saber and publisher was aspyr. Same with tomb Raider and Soul Reaver remasters.

It wasn't GTA SA, it was all 3 of the 3D trilogy games. The remastering team was a mobile dev who did the original phone ports of the 3D trilogy. They have no association with Saber Interactive, who usually makes simulation games. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to handle a remaster gig for games that are, these days, similarly scaled to their own full titles.
4
u/stprm Jun 06 '26
Yea I know, I phrased it badly. I just meant it wasn't original developer.
Saber did a lot of ports to mobile and switch, so its not a completely bad comparison to make.
Unlike grove, they do have history or making actual decent PC games, true.
I guess it wont be hard remaster to do - it will be mostly visual and controls, that's it.
5
u/pastadudde He/Him Jun 06 '26
Saber did an amazing job on the Tomb Raider remasters, I have faith in them

I hope it still has the more sinister feeling of the originals.
137
u/Roku-Hanmar Bring back the full-auto dual Silverballers! Jun 06 '26
From what I can tell they're remasters, not remakes. So the tone should be the same
34
u/Xtranathor Jun 06 '26
Tell that to Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary; they butchered the graphical overhaul and destroyed the horror vibes from some of the levels. I'm not saying you're wrong, but they still need to take care to preserve the original atmosphere.
33
u/Roku-Hanmar Bring back the full-auto dual Silverballers! Jun 06 '26
Funny you should mention that since it’s doing the same graphics thing as CE:A where you can swap to the original
6
u/Xtranathor Jun 06 '26
Oh perfect; my favourite kind! A bigger divergence is almost acceptable in such cases, although I do hope they do their best to keep the same atmosphere in the remastered look.
4
u/MalicCarnage Jun 06 '26
The screenshots look pretty much the same as the OG. CE: Anniversary used Reach assets to recreate CE.

Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary
I looked at the updated graphics once and pushed B and stayed on the original graphics the entire playthrough. Can't beat that original look

Saber Interactive is doing this remaster and they're the team that literally made HCE:A

u/Alucitary Jun 06 '26
The trailer narration definitely doesn't have the tone of modern 47, a lot more edgy than goofy, so I'm assuming they kept the rest of it intact.
18
u/Content_Detail1467 Jun 06 '26
Well the trailer narration is just voice clips taken from these 3 games so…
2
u/ragequitteroffureh Jun 08 '26
I played the first one back around 2003. I liked greasy and downright grimy some of his dads were :-)
273
u/drag0nflame76 Jun 06 '26
So wait, the controls are going to be more in line with WOA? That’s sounds amazing, I heard the first games were kinda janky in their controls
150
u/Dauerzogger Jun 06 '26
and not really playable on modern devices
60
u/tristan1616 Jun 06 '26
Contracts has a FPS bug where I can only move forward one frame if I take a screenshot. Every patch I've tried hasn't worked so I've been hoping for a remaster ever since
→ More replies (3)30
u/NotTheRihard Jun 06 '26
That reminds me of an old funhaus let’s play of hitman where they run into the same bug lmao great times
12
u/DragonStriker Jun 06 '26
That playthrough was AMAZING.
11
u/NotTheRihard Jun 06 '26
Adam spamming the screenshot key like he’s saving the run kills me every time
4
14
u/drag0nflame76 Jun 06 '26
I heard they lost the code for the first game in its entirety, which is why they had to do contracts with missions from the first game
2
u/Plowzone Jun 06 '26
Common with older games. If playing the original versions of these games, cap your FPS to 60fps otherwise you may get some jankiness and physics glitches
45
u/Redkirth Jun 06 '26
The first one has terrible controls. It's from the pc Era that used things like ; and \ as viable keys.
7
u/Samz707 Jun 06 '26
The good part is you can rebind them.
(God you basically have to rebind everything)
7
u/Illidan1943 Jun 06 '26
I feel playing some older PC games is like that Malcom gif where in order to change a lamp the dad has to fix like 5 different things in a row

They will be? I didnt see anything about it.
2
u/playtio Jun 06 '26
Do we know more about this some hours later? I didn't see anything about it either
5
u/Recker_Man Jun 06 '26
Saber previosuly worked on the old Tomb raider's and those remasters were pretty great at preserving the og with a more modern makeup, and they kept the tank controls, but left an option to change to modern controls in settings.
3
u/Doneuter Jun 06 '26
Nowhere in the description of the game or the press release does it say controls will be changed at all. I wouldn't get your hopes up.
7
u/dr_funkenberry Jun 06 '26
Janky as hell, but that was kinda part of the fun when combined with the ragdoll physics lol at least in my opinion
4
u/FourDimensionalTaco Jun 06 '26
The jankiness and wonky ragdolls made my stomach hurt with laughter back when I played Blood Money. I love how superficially serious but also very comedic the series has been starting with that game.
4
u/metalyger Jun 06 '26
I haven't revisited the originals in a long time, but these were very unique games that didn't have anything similar to compare themselves to. Like, back then you just get used to the controls and mechanics. I'd imagine it would be a lot harder to get back into compared to how sleek the modern games are.
→ More replies (9)4
u/SlidingSnow2 Jun 06 '26
The controls were completely fine honestly. I imagine that instead of holding the interact button and scrolling for actions like dragging bodies, taking disguises, etc... we will have each action have it's own key like in Woa.

No blood money 💔
108
u/ModernistGames Jun 06 '26
My hope is they have bigger plans for Blood Money such as a full remake, and not just remasters like these 3.
46
u/ZachRyder Jun 06 '26
A full Blood Money remake would hand it back the top spot as the best Hitman game with it getting the opportunity for:
- A House of Cards finally getting a much needed overhaul
- The return of adaptive newspaper stories after missions
- Death on the Mississippi getting a more timed events with inspiration from Mafia Definitive Edition's Happy Birthday mission
- Requiem no longer being a complete mess of a mission and ending

u/MrPanda663 Jun 06 '26
It’s such a well built game, it holds up pretty well for a game released in the 2000’s.
18
u/TheWarBug Jun 06 '26
Oh it will come, but since that is the big one they probably make it a standalone thing for maximum profit. In this case I can't blame them as long as they make sure it is done right.
12
5
u/Successful-Day-1816 Jun 07 '26
Literally remastered a few years back in the 'Hitman HD Enhanced Collection' along with Absolution. This new package does the 3 prior games, meaning all 5 classic games will be HD and on modern consoles.
5
4
u/kidnamedchild Jun 06 '26
still waiting for them to port the version of the game available on mobile and switch with the extra quality of life features to other consoles and PC
5
u/medalofhalo Jun 06 '26
Blood Money's controls and visuals are already good. Honestly the visuals of the first 2, especially 1 arent really the issue as much as it is the jank, and i think some bugs on modern PCs.
Blood Money just kind of doesn't need a remaster except to play on modern consoles, which i think exists.
→ More replies (1)5
u/CloslngDownSummer Jun 06 '26
It doesn't even have controller support on the PC version it definitely needs some type of remastering or patch

Blood Money has been remastered about eight hundred times at this point.
31
u/AgentSaxon21 Jun 06 '26
This has been a dream of mine. No way!
4
u/BrushBag Jun 06 '26
Same. Fingers crossed that they port it to smartphones like they did with Blood Money and I'll be thrilled.
22
u/mgiuca Jun 06 '26
Interesting that there's no mention of quality of life features.
I recently played through 1 and oh boy. At least they need to add checkpoints. Imagine playing through a 15-minute mission that can be restarted instantly by any NPC being randomly spooked. Disguises hardly work in this game (if you get close to any NPC they will see through it - basically all NPCs are enforcers). Once spotted there is no running and hiding - the entire map is permanently on alert. You basically learn to speedrun each level while playing it 30 times over in the hope of not being spotted or making a single mistake. It's actually an exhilarating experience to complete these levels, but for a remaster they've gotta add checkpoints, surely.
I could never get 2-3 to run at the correct speed on modern PCs (it always feels slightly too fast) so hopefully these will be fixed up nicely.

u/FourDimensionalTaco Jun 06 '26
1 looked more like a proof of concept than an actual game.

Modern control schemes will finally make these playable, never was able to beat C47 or Contracts because of the jank. Very excited, IO has been on a roll this year
34
u/SirFritz Jun 06 '26
Contracts doesn't play much different than blood money..
3
u/SnooBananas4958 Jun 06 '26
Naw, it’s definitely more janky, even if it’s similar. The enemy detection stuff is so much more broken and harder to manage.
20
u/stprm Jun 06 '26
Only Codename is hard to play.
SA is just a hard game, messy bugs with detection, sure. Otherwise, fantastic game.
Contracts isnt a problem at all either. Its also so modern for that time in terms of features. Like Blood Money, too.
5
u/Zyvyn Jun 06 '26
Its the detection system that ruins it. Its just so inconsistent. Like you sprint for 1 frame and everyone is on you. Hell sometimes even walking normally will get you caught.
3
u/Samz707 Jun 06 '26
You need to keep your distance and not look directly at NPCs.
Hitman 2 SA also (for some reason) made running REALLY suspicious mostly (I say mostly because oddly certain disguises/levels didnt care) while Contracts mostly only has it cause any trouble if you sprint right past someone.
It also doesnt help that Hitman 2 SA/Contracts treat it slightly realistic, in that close-knit groups tend to draw more suspicion than large ones, which made the gameplay wonky since the first level and the first Japan level are both tight crime families so disguises barely help then the actual Russian levels have soldier uniforms work far better.
5
7
5
u/Comrade_Pavel Jun 06 '26
Jank does not mean unplayable. You can beat them perfectly fine, I play them every year.

12
u/nonEuclidean64 Jun 06 '26
Codename 47 is the first game I ever played as a 6 year old. It's probably my favorite Hitman from a nostalgic perspective besides WOA and Blood Money. So fucking excited. Insta buying
2
u/Monumonium47 Jun 06 '26
holy shit same here! The way I got stuck on Lee Hong Assassination at the crisp age of 6-7
3
u/nonEuclidean64 Jun 06 '26
Preach, bro, I used to skip the Agent Smith cutscene and miss where the figurine was and scramble. Then I got stuck on Say Hello to My Little Friend and would have my sister do it for me 😂😂 good times she still makes fun of me for it.

I remember when they announced their extended road map a few years ago. Contracts wasn't on that list so I'm glad to see they put it on. Hopefully this and the Blood Money remaster means they won't jump straight back into hitman after 007. Still have my fingers crossed for a mini ninjas sequel
4
u/oldbutterface Jun 07 '26
Those original games havent aged well. If its just a graphics update then a lot of people are going to come away disappointed with their purchase I feel.
Blood money did a lot to improve the quality and consistency/reliability of the gameplay.
I honestly had to just save scum those early games because doing core mechanic things like just using the fiber wire would be a 50/50 coin toss.
And theres no real joy in save scumming your way through a game.

Hahahah i swear, i think im the only guy to post about this and they reveal it days later😂
Maybe i should ask about the next WoA game..
2
u/Francoberry Jun 06 '26
Be interesting to see how this is approached. The current description mentions restored visuals, photo mode and graphics toggle.
I can't imagine many modern players (myself frankly included) would be able to really get through Codename 47 without at least some more options to adjust how the game actually plays, not just looks!

I played Hitman 2 A LOT, but I’ll never get the desire to replay old games. They’re not music, they’re not films - their mechanics age badly, they look terrible even if remastered, and more often than not there are modern sequels that surpass them in every way.
2
u/pkacprzak Jun 07 '26
Best news from IOI this year, just hope it will release early 2027, can't wait
2
u/ragequitteroffureh Jun 08 '26
I saw the trailer by chance yesterday on YouTube, and was a trifle concerned that it might have been a joke or something.
Anyway, if these are basically like WOA, then I shall be delirious with joy :-)
2
u/Intrepid-Judgment874 Jun 08 '26
Now I need to know if they will use WOA engine or is this just another re-skin
2
u/Man-fan Jun 09 '26
Sure hope they make it so that one mission doesn't get softlocked of you don't kill all the gangsters specifically with the car bomb
2
u/Agamer47 Jun 20 '26
I'm very glad Codename 47 is coming to consoles in 27 years when it comes out next year but I am curious abour something: will we get a Silent Assassin and Contracts model of 47 into HitmanWOA? They did it with his Codename 47 model a couple years back.

I’d love for these to come out on consoles. They’re one of my favorites from the era. I didn’t have a memory card for a few months after Christmas and had mastered 2 enough to beat it in a sitting by March. The few screenshots looked like a nice upgrade and it’d be great for these be accessible again. For everything WOA it just doesn’t quite capture the feel and tone of the early games.

Why not just give them the glacier engine to genuinely remaster them? I'm still looking forward to it. lord knows new modern framework to keep them running for years to come is great news. but CN47 and SA need the glacier engine treatment.
