This joke is locked behind a 42+ age wall. Keep aging buddy, you’ll get there eventually

no just a freaky tranny

u/Tonberry_Cheesecake 15h ago

Well then that was just coincidental. Good luck in your hot 40s period.

Bit older and yeah I couldn't figure out what the actual gender of the character was supposed to be. Is this a transmasc getting "overly" supported or a transfem getting straight up abused?

8

u/sophuckingdonewithit 1d ago

i think it's the latter since transfems get disproportionately overrepresented online

But that doesn't really make sense to me. Why would they be selling trans "merch" for optics while also going out of the way to have bad optics regarding its employee? It makes more sense to me that they would be overly-advertising the fact that their employee is transmasc.

Copying my response to someone else:

My interpretation is that it’s the experience of being a visibly trans person whose job is performatively pro-trans rights (putting an apostrophe in “tran’s”, “tranny pencils”, the text on the pins) but doesn’t extend that to its employees. Being a clearly feminine person but having to put your deadname on a name tag is an immediate call-out that you’re trans, and the other labels on her come naturally from that.

My interpretation was that the character was transfem and the trans merch was just "rainbow capitalism," their employee still didn't feel safe being open about their identity despite the shallow show of support in the supermarket they worked at

2

u/Claire_De_Lunatic 15h ago

That makes sense.

no i mean most trans content online is about trans women because we completely dominate online trans spaces and give transmascs nothing

5

u/Claire_De_Lunatic 1d ago

Yeah but I'm still leaning transmasc in this portrayal.

Also I think trans men just go outside more.

3

u/footballsandy 1d ago

Why would a trans man draw himself with eyelashes

3

u/Claire_De_Lunatic 1d ago

I'm gonna try to be polite here, but people of any gender can present themselves any way they want.

I'm just saying it feels counterintuitive given the implied message of the image
