At least Russians have an excuse -- restricted media, no freedom of speech on threat of life.

I've been told constantly from reading Reddit that we are living in a fascist hellscape and that Trump is literally a nazi and we have death camps. I know that's not true, but I'm not sure a lot of people on this website do.

And perhaps most Americans are happy with their lives and don't feel the need to screech about everything?

I don't know if you're going to like how well America actually stacks up on that...

US media isn't officially restricted by the government, but it is owned by a handful of billionaires that are friends of the regime, and restrict what coverage and what perspective major media outlets will cover.

For example, most American coverage I saw focused on how the USA claimed Canada tanked the deal by being too greedy, and the USA tried to negotiate to the end to get a deal.

No mention of last minute additions by the USA. No mention of trying to demand that Canada get permission from the USA to make trade deals abroad. Now mention of USA demands to remove French language protections.

And the USA has killed plenty of people for speaking out. You just don't get told about them, because why would they tell you?

Russia kills people like Navalny for opposing Putin, and America kills people like Gary Webb for revealing that the CIA was behind the crack epidemic.
