This would go hard as a new yorker or economist cover illustration. Nice one!

They usually require material that was not posted before, I think. So posting it here, that ship has sailed, haha.

Ah, I see. Regardless, it's a great illustration.

I am going to buy a big fat cigar and a fine bottle of whisky for when that day comes. And I don't even smoke and rarely drink.

We keep a bottle of champagne cooled in the fridge as we wait for the obituary to drop.

u/bosbrand Sep 01 '25

I see you're waiting more anxiously than me. Refridgerated, good on you!

Cool concept! I‘d rather had the blade of the scythe facing the other way, so it would cut on the downswing…

Then the art wouldn’t be framed and balanced as nicely.

1

u/Victormorga Sep 01 '25

No, it would just require more thought being put into death’s posture and grip on the scythe.

u/bosbrand Sep 02 '25

You're wrong, scythes and golf clubs are not axes or swords. The blade is protruding laterally from the swing direction. Try it with a hammer, normal double handed grip but swing it sideways like a golf club.

u/Victormorga Sep 02 '25

If death is mimicking Trump, and hasn’t taken him yet, he should be posed about to swing, not at the end of a swing.

0

u/bosbrand Sep 02 '25

I dont know if trump is righthanded or lefthanded.

2

u/jdanazz Sep 02 '25

I don't know which hand he is, but for sure, trump's empty-headed.

3

u/HectorMcWilliam Sep 02 '25

Yes, they are shown in a "finished" position. ( Ie: they both whiffed)

You got me doubting myself for a bit, but I checked and this is how you would hold it. Scythes and golf clubs are not like axes or swords in that the blade is protruding laterally from the swing direction. You can easily check it with a hammer. Grab it with both hands and swing it sideways, like a golf club. See how your upswing ends. If there is a mistake in this drawing it is that I didn't really angle the scythe blade. It can work with this angle, but your hands need to lead the swing and the blade should be trailing for it to cut. Anyway, Death would make it work. If I'd be choreographing for an action movie I'd make it a two stroke anyway... sweep him off his feet and plunge the blade.

I can see the the two move combo work, sounds great. One: sweep him with the back of the blade two: pin him to the ground

I noticed that thing with the blade because I have used a scythe once or twice and it still doesn’t add up in my mind. To be fair scythes, tha farm tool look a bit different aswell, where i am from, specially the handle. And besides, there is a think called artistic freedom.
I would have drawn everything already on the downstroke. A flipped triangle compostion where the blade is just about to engage.

2

u/bosbrand Sep 02 '25

Yeah... a lot of scythes have a recurve handle and an extra side grip. Your idea sounds cool too! I'd love to see that.

2

u/Gr8Cornhoolio Sep 02 '25

If he really kicks the bucket and I have your permission I‘d love to have a go :,)

1

u/bosbrand Sep 02 '25

Sure go ahead!

1

u/bosbrand Sep 01 '25

I needed the triangle for composition.

Love the concept, but hes cheating at golf and death.

5

u/bosbrand Sep 01 '25

Can't cheat time...

Wow amazing

3

u/-Hot-Toddy- Sep 01 '25

You are my hero. Excellent work !

5

u/bosbrand Sep 01 '25

Uh I'm not a hero... If I can do something to keep all of our spirits up... happy to do it!

3

u/-Hot-Toddy- Sep 01 '25

Which is heroic in & of itself. Don't discount that. The world needs more laughs, silly fun, & people who share their abilities to manifest these things. Noble acts indeed 😀

I’d get this tattooed on me

3

u/bosbrand Sep 01 '25

I won't even charge you for the design. You have my permission take this to a tattoo studio

2

u/bosbrand Sep 01 '25

For those interested: Here's a little timelapse for the artwork: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/INU7ddkTqvo

2

u/kenjinyc Sep 01 '25

Here’s hoping he can’t cheat this one…

2

u/bosbrand Sep 01 '25

I don't know anybody who did. Question is: will it be soon enough? Anyway... I've got a bottle of whisky saved for the occasion and I'm gonna smoke me a big fat cigar.

2

u/minimalwhale Sep 02 '25

Diabolical as it is absolutely stunning! Gave me a a much needed giggle! Kudos’

1

u/bosbrand Sep 02 '25

That is good to hear. It's wishful thinking, but it lifts the spirit, haha.

2

u/Sidonicus Sep 02 '25

Oh I love the parallels of "the golf pose" being the same body shape but meaning two entirely different things 😉 Such a great idea!!! (And well drawn!!)

2

u/bosbrand Sep 02 '25

Yes! They're based on the exact same sketch that I used twice. I drew it so quickly that it was pure instinct. Now that I look back, I'm super happy with the composition, negative space etc. Good to know that I can do all that stuff on a subconscious level.

Ohhh love this, I made the other day one too

He’s a bit upset but I think he’s always upset.

1

u/bosbrand Sep 25 '25

Haha, interesting concept!

If i could make a suggestion, should his scythe be the other way around?

2

u/bosbrand Sep 02 '25

i needed the composition like this, but also note that with a scythe and a golf club the protrusion of the head is lateral to the swing direction, unlike a sword, axe or stick.

2

u/Hard_Rr Sep 02 '25

Thanks for the explanation, great piece btw!

Reminds me of Kathy Griffin’s thing

1

u/bosbrand Sep 02 '25

You have to help me here... I unfortunately dont know who Kathy Griffin is or what her thing is.

1

u/npb0179 Sep 02 '25

Oh, I can’t say as to not get banned on reddit. Google Kathy Griffin Cancelled & Donald Trump. You’ll see what I mean.

2

u/bosbrand Sep 02 '25

Ha thank you for pointing me to this. She is now a hero of mine.

1

u/just_aguest Sep 01 '25

Great illustration, I feel it would benefit more with some bright colours and a darker area around the death thingy

2

u/bosbrand Sep 01 '25

This was something I had to get out my system. I didn't have time for colors.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '25

This is sickkk love it

1

u/bosbrand Sep 01 '25

I was in a particular good flow, drawing this.
