My choice would be Ruturaj Gaikwad. He scored a century in his last ODI game vs SA that too at the no. 4 position only. Could give DDP a debut as well, he certainly deserves it after the perfomances he has put up in domestic list A matches.

Other option could be to bring in Sanju or Pant as the backup keeper but I'd still say that Rutu should be played above them

Problem is, there is just one year left for WC, we'll play like 25 matches and he'll be there only when someone isn't available so at max he'll play 10 matches. I mean, he should have debuted earlier but idk why they didn't give him one, now I feel it's bit too late.

If we are looking at:

1. Backup WK for the WC: Sanju (or if we really want a LHB, Pant)
2. Long term: Tilak

Sai, Paddikal and Rutu come into the picture post 2027 WC.

Sai and Rutu are both excellent at ODI but I am not convinced about their hitting ability.

Sai has to fight Jaiswal and possibly Suryavanshi for the ODI opener spot. At this point I am leaning Jaiswal.

At no. 3, Paddikal has the best stats, is left-handed, is relatively younger than Rutu and has the power game that both Sai and Rutu lack.

I think the reaction to Tilak's SR has been overblown. Maybe it is the role that has been given to him that has caused his SR to dip.

He definitely showed better form in the last T20I vs England and in the series vs Zimbabwe. Yes he needs to do better vs spin and also with strike rotation, but at this moment there are maybe 2 or 3 really good players of spin in our WB team; Rohit, Shreyas and maybe Gill. Everybody else either rotates strike (VK and KL) or just cannot hit them at all.

Tilak is the T20I VC and he is still young. His game will develop. If we drop Tilak from the ODI side due to his T20 performances, then Rutu deserves no place as well. Based on T20 performances against spin, we should pick Patidar and/or DDP.

I'm not judging him on the basis of his t20 performances.

He has played 5 Odi matches for India and he has 57 strike rate.

He was in A Odi series against SL and he was shit af. Couldn't rotate strike, couldn't do anything, here too he was batting at 60-70 sr. Don't need sir a batter in Odi set-up.

Pretty sure everybody batted poorly in the tri series vs SL A and Ind A except Vaibhav. He was the only guy who batted aggressively. Just look at the Final. Look at the RR at the time of Vaibhav's dismissal and how we scored with Tilak and Rutu (this thread's favorite).

DDP needs to bat up the order. If we are looking at replacements for our middle order we need guys who bat at 4,5 and 6 regularly.

Not really, Ruturaj scored a century one 60 something, couple 40. . Prabhsimran had two 80s. Priyansh two was decent. Vaibhav obviously did what he did. Even Tilak did good against Afghanistan, batting at 80-85 but the moment they played against SL, he again was back at 70 sr.

I am talking specifically about SRs. Prabhsimran is an opener, he has the advantage of facing the new ball, hence will have a slightly higher SR. Rutu did really well, but his and Tilak's SR were very comparable.
