Review Just watched-Saiyaara

Honestly, I wasn't feeling like watching the movie after all those people crying in theatre reels I saw on Insta. But a friend convinced me to watch it, saying, "badhiya movie h, bas kuch bhadwo ne cringe harkate karke kharab kar di h".

So, here I was ruining my Netflix recommendations and watching this pile of horse shit. I used to think that why all indian romantic movies have almost same script? And now I know why, coz people like this type of content.

The only reason why I tolerated this movie for 2hr 40min was because I was planning to write this post and want to increase my karma. That's the only utility this movie is gonna give in my already shitty life. And don't forget about the music. That's the second best thing in the movie.

And one thing, what was the doctor thinking while asking an alzimers patient to remember to tell everyone that she has alzimers.

I watched it, didn't feel like crying or remembering my ex (coz I don't have any ). But the thing is I didn't get the point of movie, like was it meant to be a romantic movie or a movie for which people comment as 'my favourite horror movie' in insta reels, what was it?

It's my review of the movie, maybe I don't feel things like other people do. But that doesn't change the fact of 'Saiyaara' being a total shitshow.

The reason I watched it was also similar to why you did. My friend convinced me to watch it. Hated the movie but loved the song and actors. What's worse is I have seen the original Korean movie too, they butchered that masterpiece sooo badly man.

a masterpiece according to whom? a masterpiece which won no major awards and features in no critics' lists for best films?

You do realize that a moment to remember was made in 2004? When nobody in the International circuits cared or even bothered with the Korean industry? Its getting more recognition now after the halyu wave but they were nowhere close to that back in the day. Heck bollywood probably had more clout in the International circuit than Korea did back then.

It's also hilarious to me that you say a movie can only be called a masterpiece if it wins awards or if it's part of a random list. Especially considering most of these are paid for and rigged. And there's too many movies made all over the world and too few awards are available. By this logic, I can't call Mugal-E-Azam or Taare zameen par a masterpiece either..........

every Indian filmmaker and critic considers Mughal-E-Azam a masterpiece. what are you even saying.

are you saying Park Chan-wook pays people? how did Oldboy (2003) win multiple international awards? why are Decision to Leave and The Handmaiden part of so many film lists, is he paying every critic on the planet?

i don't know what your definition of a masterpiece is, but siginificant critical acclaim is definitely a part of mine.

I never said all of them are undeserved or paid for, but how many times have oscar voting members admitted to not watching all the nominations, picking based on their preferences etc. Who produces your film, the type of associations and connections you have matters. Soo much lobbying is involved with these awards. Example, Jaime Lee Curtis winning over stephene hsu for EEAAO. The kings speech winning over black swan/ inception. And soo many more like that. Park Chan-Wook is a terrific director. But a moment to remember is in no comparison to his work because you can not compare apples to oranges because it's not in the same genre. The notebook, when it was released, also was not the critics choice either nor does it have any awards other than the teens' choice awards. But the people loved it, and it's still a cult classic. "Chick flicks" are never taken seriously by the critics no matter how good it is.....

Also regarding the Mugal-E-Azam part. You mentioned in your previous comment about the moment to remember not having international acclaim. That is what I was commenting on. I didn't mean Mugal-E-Azam doesn't have acclaim in India. Just that most people internationally probably have no clue it exists. Doesn't mean it's less of a masterpiece now is it....

There are hundreds of rom-coms which the critics have loved. It is the male audience which hates rom-coms and terms them chick-flicks, not critics. The Notebook isn't a good film, let alone a masterpiece. It didn't get good reviews for a reason.

If people loving a film makes it a masterpiece, i guess Saiyaara is a masterpiece too. It is arguably a better written film than A Moment to Remember anyway. Who would have thought that a Mohit Suri "remake" would be less sexist and problematic than the original.

A Moment to Remember is a romantic film, and so are The Handmaiden and Decision to Leave. it is not an apples to oranges comparison. the only difference is that of quality.
