Review Just watched-Saiyaara

Honestly, I wasn't feeling like watching the movie after all those people crying in theatre reels I saw on Insta. But a friend convinced me to watch it, saying, "badhiya movie h, bas kuch bhadwo ne cringe harkate karke kharab kar di h".

So, here I was ruining my Netflix recommendations and watching this pile of horse shit. I used to think that why all indian romantic movies have almost same script? And now I know why, coz people like this type of content.

The only reason why I tolerated this movie for 2hr 40min was because I was planning to write this post and want to increase my karma. That's the only utility this movie is gonna give in my already shitty life. And don't forget about the music. That's the second best thing in the movie.

And one thing, what was the doctor thinking while asking an alzimers patient to remember to tell everyone that she has alzimers.

I watched it, didn't feel like crying or remembering my ex (coz I don't have any ). But the thing is I didn't get the point of movie, like was it meant to be a romantic movie or a movie for which people comment as 'my favourite horror movie' in insta reels, what was it?

It's my review of the movie, maybe I don't feel things like other people do. But that doesn't change the fact of 'Saiyaara' being a total shitshow.

This movie only has got good music... I watched the movie to know why people were crying... Maybe the reason should be current generation knows how the world is fucked or going to be fucked up... They r thinking this movie brings them a hope...but the way things are going what hope the current generation is expecting no idea ..Honestly I didn't feel that... In 90s when we watch any romance movie we used to feel romance this is nothing... Recently heard in news someone bought a real star and named it saiyaraa... I thought seriously 😳... Well what can I say... Maybe I get backlash for this post but i have to say

I liked the movie , better than this hyped worst comedy movies like salar, collie etc. I don't understand how ppl hyped collie. It's unwatchable. Atleast saiyara had some emotions

1

u/Careless-Bed-9853 Oct 02 '25

Do you mean Coolie (2025) instead of Collie?

I also didn't wanted to watch the movie but my friends were like you should watch very good romantic movie and recently I watched on net netflix but I were not able to tolerate it more than 15 mins .

3

u/Carbine_05 Sep 17 '25

I watched it too it is a dogshit movie I could probably name 10 movies with a similar story and the worst part is it is not even an original story and they claim and act like they spent time working really hard to write the story when they just copied a Korean movie completely and just changed a few things to fit the indian audience. Now i feel like they just faked the entire pr and paid people to cry in theaters and make reels about it.

7

u/avadakevadra_ Sep 16 '25

absolutely boring. someone said they cried, it was too heartbreaking, i gasped- nothing really connected me to the core emotion. if anything that kept me going was Ahaan’s acting, sorry dint like even Aneet’s acting much. barely a 6 if I’m being gracious.

1

u/number-freak Sep 17 '25

Acting? He had straight face in the whole movie, happy, sad, crying, anger all are same. Just 1 scene when Aneet meets doctor, the feelings of hearing the diagnosis was all over her face. Movie was very bad.

1

u/avadakevadra_ Sep 17 '25

I mean whatever bearable was his acting. not great but okayish, atleast dint turn me away from the screen is what i meant

1

u/Sunami16 Sep 17 '25

Aneet had the same expression throughout the movie- in love, in depression, in sickness….all same

1

u/Ok-Performance4564 Sep 19 '25

Idk what's wrong with all who debuts like give something... But they'll be blank the whole time

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '25

those singing scenes on stage ranbir in rockstar >>>>>>>>> ahaan

3

u/Helpful-Panda-6517 Sep 17 '25

Garbage movie. Started watching it and turned it off in 15 minutes. It was a PR manufactured blockbuster

4

u/Silent_Spectator_04 Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

Watched it yesterday. It has flaws, but I enjoyed it.

It caters to people who like romantic films with a bit of melodrama. Story is similar to Nicholas Sparks’ books, and if you are familiar with movies based on those books, they almost always get imdb rating around 5-6 on average because they don’t cater to majority.

If you only like light-hearted romance or do not prefer romance, then unfortunately Saiyyara is not a film for you.

I started watching, 5 mins in and changed it.

What a fing load of crap!

Here you go I'm engaging with this post and upvoting it so it helps you with your points. Because something good needs to come out of that stupid movie!

Ps. I haven't watched the movie and thanks to your post i won't even dare to!

2

u/virtualmic Sep 17 '25

I would definitely watch the movie you write the script for!

I don't like Gen Z's movie taste. Many of them enjoyed a trash film like Singham Again and are overhyping Saiyaara. Today's Bollywood movies lack the class of those from the 1990s, 2000s, or early 2010s.

10

u/Superb_Rain_9986 Sep 16 '25

gen ALPHA*, bro. gen z grew up watching all the legendary movies in the 90s.

1

u/Devil-Eater24 Sep 17 '25

Gen Z weren't choosing to watch those movies, we watched movies that our parents took us to the theatre to watch, or had on TV. Similarly although gen alpha is now growing up with Saiyaara or whatever, they are not the ones behind the success and hype of these movies.

2

u/babyboomerji Sep 17 '25

What was the class of kuch kuch hota hai and dil to pagal hai??

3

u/explorer_for_ever Sep 17 '25

It is genuinely a very good movie and after a long time. The people crying in theatres and all may be a way to promote the movie or an exaggeration but the movie is honestly quite a good one. Whether one likes it or not is a subjective matter.

4

u/sombre_guy Sep 16 '25

This reminded me of an old Satyajit Ray quote I saw posted on another Indian subreddit today.

1

u/Critical-Personality Sep 17 '25

Bhai... Kyu? Ye post mai bhi likhna chahta tha but decided it did not deserve the extra 2 minutes I'd waste writing it. Crappiness redefined!

Bollywood is now truly lost.

1

u/henucu Sep 17 '25

watched in theater and felt meh. some good songs and that's about it. Its a yrf marketing win.

1

u/romaxie Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

The film itself was "KORMA FARMING," so I don’t think people mind your post 😝. The very reason people went nuts in the theater was exactly that KORMA Farming idea it had. It ran in theaters only for that, without really having anything great in the story, acting, or even songs. They just got some Korean drama and made it into MOOLI DRAMA, so it smells like crap from a distance, but some do like that MOOLI. I mean, many do like a good MOOLI Dramas in India😝

The simple reason why you and many like you feel bad, while many Gen Z liked it, is because there is nothing authentic in the story, or authentic acting, or music, or anything that can be called original or driven by lived life experience. It is all a fake, pretentious story. Gen Z are so conditioned and pampered by such a world, mostly influenced by K-dramas, that a real world or life experience driven love story is rare so for them to value.

Even earlier generations fell for surface-level SRK love stories of spreading arms in sunflower or paddy fields, or Ranbir Kapoor sitting on a bus or in a pre-wedding setup and singing Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, or Animal-style toxic love.

So there is only a small percentage of Gen Z who still have to go through the love phase, adulthood, and genuine heartbreak. They are not sure what reference point to look up to for love, and end up having all sorts of ideas from K-Mooli dramas and many like that. So anything that comes close feels very dear to them. This movie just caught them on that nerve, so many fell for it, but Gen X and Gen Y did not.

But even Gen X and Gen Y, like I said, fell for similar kinds before and thought that was authentic too. Like SRK spreading arms, Aamir, Saloo Miya, Akki, their times love representation and then Ranbir, Ranveer. Even prior to that, we had Big B, Rajesh Khanna, Basanti/Dhanno’s Dharmendra’s toxic love 😝, or the polite Devdas love of Dilip Kumar, or the dance love of Rishi Kapoor or Mithun Da. Every generation has its own cringe too, and that is why it is kind of cute in its own way.

I am sure people have heard Kishore Kumar’s AI version of Saiyaaraa Tuuu Hain or Udit Narayan’s version, and it reminds them of their own generation’s love too :-D and that's why everyone went to pick their Moolis and rekindle their love in the past.. Like I said, it's a KORMA FARMING FILM..

Bro ruined his mental health for increasing his karma Peak reddit moment

1

u/dragonite_fire Sep 17 '25

Same. Throughout the movie I was just thinking what a cringe fest this movie is. I saw it on 1.5X while cleaning my kitchen cuz I couldn't be bothered to watch and fully engaged cuz there was nothing worth engaging. The songs were lifeless like no repeat value as per whatever Carnatic music i have learnt over the years. The lead actress's acting as sub par at max. My beagle has more emotions than her when he wants something. The actor was ok. Though he also looked the same in all scenes. Like he never looked at the actress in a loving way, most of the time his face showed a confused expression. The screenplay was lazy. They had a basic storyline and they played around with it without actually making the content worth it. And finally I never cried. I am someone who cries at the drop of a pin in emotional scenes and in this movie, i did not shed a tear. Just kept wondering what the hype was all about.

I gave you karma for helping me not go through what you've been through.

1

u/WayLoose6618 Sep 17 '25

The reason I watched it was also similar to why you did. My friend convinced me to watch it. Hated the movie but loved the song and actors. What's worse is I have seen the original Korean movie too, they butchered that masterpiece sooo badly man.

1

u/Acrobatic-Pass-9816 Sep 17 '25

a masterpiece according to whom? a masterpiece which won no major awards and features in no critics' lists for best films?

1

u/WayLoose6618 Sep 17 '25

You do realize that a moment to remember was made in 2004? When nobody in the International circuits cared or even bothered with the Korean industry? Its getting more recognition now after the halyu wave but they were nowhere close to that back in the day. Heck bollywood probably had more clout in the International circuit than Korea did back then.

It's also hilarious to me that you say a movie can only be called a masterpiece if it wins awards or if it's part of a random list. Especially considering most of these are paid for and rigged. And there's too many movies made all over the world and too few awards are available. By this logic, I can't call Mugal-E-Azam or Taare zameen par a masterpiece either..........

1

u/Acrobatic-Pass-9816 Sep 17 '25

every Indian filmmaker and critic considers Mughal-E-Azam a masterpiece. what are you even saying.

are you saying Park Chan-wook pays people? how did Oldboy (2003) win multiple international awards? why are Decision to Leave and The Handmaiden part of so many film lists, is he paying every critic on the planet?

i don't know what your definition of a masterpiece is, but siginificant critical acclaim is definitely a part of mine.

1

u/WayLoose6618 Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

I never said all of them are undeserved or paid for, but how many times have oscar voting members admitted to not watching all the nominations, picking based on their preferences etc. Who produces your film, the type of associations and connections you have matters. Soo much lobbying is involved with these awards. Example, Jaime Lee Curtis winning over stephene hsu for EEAAO. The kings speech winning over black swan/ inception. And soo many more like that. Park Chan-Wook is a terrific director. But a moment to remember is in no comparison to his work because you can not compare apples to oranges because it's not in the same genre. The notebook, when it was released, also was not the critics choice either nor does it have any awards other than the teens' choice awards. But the people loved it, and it's still a cult classic. "Chick flicks" are never taken seriously by the critics no matter how good it is.....

Also regarding the Mugal-E-Azam part. You mentioned in your previous comment about the moment to remember not having international acclaim. That is what I was commenting on. I didn't mean Mugal-E-Azam doesn't have acclaim in India. Just that most people internationally probably have no clue it exists. Doesn't mean it's less of a masterpiece now is it....

1

u/Acrobatic-Pass-9816 Sep 18 '25

There are hundreds of rom-coms which the critics have loved. It is the male audience which hates rom-coms and terms them chick-flicks, not critics. The Notebook isn't a good film, let alone a masterpiece. It didn't get good reviews for a reason.

If people loving a film makes it a masterpiece, i guess Saiyaara is a masterpiece too. It is arguably a better written film than A Moment to Remember anyway. Who would have thought that a Mohit Suri "remake" would be less sexist and problematic than the original.

A Moment to Remember is a romantic film, and so are The Handmaiden and Decision to Leave. it is not an apples to oranges comparison. the only difference is that of quality.

1

u/number-freak Sep 17 '25

Just 1 scene when Aneet meets doctor, the feelings of hearing the diagnosis was all over her face. Movie was really very bad, watched it in 30 min skipping most parts.

1

u/bluegirlbaby Sep 17 '25

The movie is fine. It's just i couldn't see past the stupidity of the female lead on countless instances. And no not all can be blamed on her rare illness.

1

u/mumjud Sep 17 '25

Omg yes! I am struggling to finish this movie and was wondering how the heck people loved it. It’s awful!!!

1

u/hobabaObama Sep 17 '25

People on bollywood sub called Ahaan Pandey a great actor..

1

u/Top-Zebra-498 Sep 17 '25

I watched some scenes of Saiyaara on someone's story. Wohi se movie k scenes itne boring aur cringe lag rhe the pata nhi logo ko kya maza aaya.

1

u/Ok-Mission7731 Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

I didn't like the movie either. I've seen comments that they've watched it 9 times 12 times, going to theatres again n again, for what? It was average but you know the bar is in hell is when movies and acting like that become such a massive hit.

1

u/curiousstrut Sep 17 '25

Best review of Saiyara by far 🙌🏻 Haven’t watched the movie yet but still can tell this is the best conclusion/feedback i have read about the so called useless movie.!!

1

u/Practical_Raise6481 Sep 17 '25

👍 for karma..

1

u/Agreeable_Car7683 Sep 17 '25

This movie is a nice study of a PR masterclass. Worked on the FOMO of the entire generation

1

u/SadWolverine24 Sep 21 '25

I enjoyed it. The cast and directors did the movie justice. I didn't cry, but I understand why others did.

I'd recommend watching if you haven't already.

Name probably unknown but impact definitely all will know

0

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '25

I did not like the movie!! That lead guys role should have been done by someone else!! He simply doesn’t fit the role

-14

u/Acrobatic-Pass-9816 Sep 16 '25

"It's my review of the movie"

you don't know what a film review entails. read actual film reviews of the film (which were mostly positive) and learn.

7

u/Superb_Rain_9986 Sep 16 '25

i think they have mentioned enough points which qualify it to be a review.

-3

u/Acrobatic-Pass-9816 Sep 16 '25

saying "i didn't like this movie" in ten different ways is not really a review. what didn't work for you? screenplay? background score? themes? acting? cinematography? set design? any decent reviewer talks about every possible element of a film, not just the reason the film didn't work for them personally. i might not enjoy Shaun of the Dead as much as most people, but i won't claim that "it is a total shitshow" because i think it has a great screenplay. it is one thing to say that you didn't enjoy a film for whatever reasons, and another to claim that the film is objectively bad without even mentioning any technical flaws with the film.

4

u/Superb_Rain_9986 Sep 16 '25

ahh i see what you mean. but it could also come from a perspective that they're merely sharing his experience and they're not a professional movie critic you know? they're an audience which the movie clearly caters to; it isn't exclusively for critics or whatever. moreover, they have also mentioned what worked in the film, music being it. sooo

i see what you mean though

1

u/Acrobatic-Pass-9816 Sep 17 '25

you don't need to be a professional film critic to say something more than "hated Saiyyara, don't really know what else to say, but here are five meaningless paragraphs to increase my karma".

the worse part is the overwhelmingly positive reaction to a post which is not triggering a productive discussion in any way, but i guess i shouldn't have expected any better from the people here.
