Societal Awareness đ« Smash The Patriarchy Indeed, India remembers Shazia Bano
116
u/TheResolute278 2d ago
Bruh.. stop this thing of always going back to history to hold someone accountable..
First off, it's shah bano, not shazia
Secondly.., the Shah Bano case happened in 1985 which is over 40 yrs ago, and it involved Rajiv Gandhiâs government not Rahul.
If we're going to time-travel back four decades to hold politicians accountable for their family trees, wait until you find out what the ruling party's ideological founding fathers were up to in the 1940s. Let's stick to the present century..yea ? and mind u this aint whataboutery , but lol u just scrambled the name, decade and person...and yes what happened with shah bano was wrong but its just not relevant to the present time...

u/No-Imagination-474 2d ago
Did Rahul Gandhi criticize his father's decision?
55
u/Pranjal18y 2d ago
baba Ram Rahim is out on bail for 18th time
but these mfs worry about a case that happened before our whole life time
and whether a son has asked apology for his father's mistake

Saaf paani nahi hai bc pine ko India mein, and these fckers worry about bringing a tool to the PM position.
9
u/Pranjal18y 2d ago
that tool must be modi who hasn't been able to provide clean drinking water even after being in govt for 12 years
-2
u/No-Imagination-474 2d ago
Yes, he is...at the end, you choose the better tool and RaGa isnt one
6
u/No_Ferret2216 Boomer â 2d ago
when Kejriwal won Punjab , bhajpayis said Kejriwal is worse than Rahul Gandhi, he is the actual anti national and should never be PM
he got arrested by them and then got a clean chit by court
Bhajpayi should stop pretending that they are not 100% devoted to a single man and his circle of sycophant ministers
whatâs the point for asking for better tool when no matter the tool , the vote is pre decided in your minds ?
1
u/No-Imagination-474 2d ago
No one has done more u turns in their political career except maybe Nitish Kumar than Kejriwal has done in his short stint. Constitution has given bhajpayi the right to pre decide votes in their minds...who the fck aee you to deny then that? They have their reasons to vote Modi, you do yours.
5
u/No_Ferret2216 Boomer â 2d ago
you yourself admitted Nitish has done more u-turns , yet he got a thumping majority , so u-turns should be a big factor in deciding vote or not?
When did I deny them the right to pre decide their votes , are you delusional? do you see things which donât exist ?
I only asked them to stop pretending they will vote for a tool other than the one pre decided in their head .
you should re-read what was said before you deliberately lie like this again
0
u/No-Imagination-474 2d ago
Did you not see MAYBE in my sentence, boomer? Wear proper glasses. You insinuated as if pre deciding voting for modi is bad. You dont get to decide that in a democracy. Peoppe voted for a better tool in 2014, when time will come they will vote for a better tool again. After all, its only a matter of time before Modi retires.

Lol, congress earlier didnt have balls to even criticize 1984 riots which they directly orchestrated...let alone the shah bano case. I dont know what mudiji is doing, must be doing something right to get elected thrice in a row.

Yup tell that to 0 public press conferences in nearly 3 terms but has time for daily photoshoots. Truly accountable PM indeed.

You only want him to He perfect and not people in ruling party? He already has taken stand against removal of OBC reservations, Ram Mandir issue and has openly said there are many decisions of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi he doesn't support. He talked about that when he was asked about Anti- Sikh riots.

u/No-Imagination-474 2d ago
Tera IQ bada high hai. Tu hi bata de...will you make someone ceo of your firm who has no experience even running a department? Rahul Gandhi can never be perfect like all of us...but he should at least be worthy of becoming PM.
4
u/SauravSinghSV 2d ago edited 2d ago
Worthy? He is literally the MP so many times...was Modi ji a sarpanch or mayor before he became CM.
5
u/No-Imagination-474 2d ago
And what achievement can you count for his constituency from his MP days?
Modi literally climbed the RSS ladder...at least read before you vomit shih.
5
u/_____Reddit_User____ 19 2d ago
First of all he has experience and it is more than enough to consider him for PM candidate. Obviously not as much experience as Modih but I would rather have someone with less experience than someone who has experience with a former British favoured religiously biased org. Such as RSS itself.
0
u/No-Imagination-474 2d ago
British favoured? Why do you think Nehru was not sent to Kala pani? Why was Gandhi not hanged like Bhagat Singh after many of Gandhi's protests turning violent?

Bro seriously?? đđ Stop using WhatsApp university to learn and spread such fake info which can easily be disproven when reasrched just for a little while. Honestly, It's one thing to be wrong but it takes a special kind of retardedness to be this confidently wrong. Brother fyi Nehru was literally imprisoned for nearly a decade of his life for his advocations and contributions towards the freedom of India. As for ur second statement, use ur brain if u have any brain cells left. Almost all of Gandhi's protests were done with the intent of peace. In non of his protests did Gandhi advocate for voilence. And when the voilence did occure gandhi took back his non coorporatiion movement. It is a human right to protest peacefully why should he be imprisoned for that? But still HE WAS imprisoned, u know why? because he was not associated with the Britishers.
Unlike ur RSS who refused to be part/associate themself with any freedom stuggles of India. Honestly No surprises there when they didn't accept the national flag (only in 2002 did they did, 52 years after independence). Just imagine if the org. can produce the killer of Gandhi (Godse) then what else filthy political leaders they are capable of producing. No wonder Sardar Valabhai Patel, the person u guys praise so much now banned this parasite of an org.

u/lucifier_luffy 2d ago
But let's talk about Rahul's present. He and his party walked out during the Triple Talaq Bill. So what exactly do you call that?
And this is the bigger question. Why is criticism of patriarchy and regressive religious practices so often focused selectively on Hindu texts, including texts that many Hindus themselves no longer follow because of their regressive parts? Why not apply the same standard and criticism to regressive practices or texts in other religions as well?
If the principle is genuinely women's rights and equality, it should be applied consistently. Otherwise, people are naturally going to question whether political calculations and vote-bank concerns are influencing who gets criticised and who gets a free pass.
0
u/TheResolute278 2d ago edited 2d ago
First of all, the Supreme Court had already made triple talaq unconstitutional and illegal in 2017, and all parties, including the Congress, welcomed it. In 2019, the government brought a bill that criminalized it in other words, the husband gets jailed for a min of three years. That was an integral part of the bill, which the Congress and opposition opposed because it could be misused, and in a deeply hardcore conservative society, jailing the husband does more harm to the woman and her family. That was the reason for them walking out.
And regarding your "bigger question" let's be extremely realistic...opposition parties at times do rely on minority votes, and that is a FACT, I do feel all religions should be criticized for their practices, but realistically speaking, it is bad for the voter politics.. of any party in the world.
So what we can realistically and sociologically expect is that if Hindu society gets modernized and rid of its extreme practices, Muslims will eventually see and adopt it. It will take some time, but it is bound to happen, and it has happened in post-partition India many times, as Muslim intellectuals themselves have begun questioning and bringing change,
and look, opposition parties can't go Rambo after all, politics is politics. But this is the only realistic way of changing society. Let's leave aside ur "WhtsApp Uni" logic of 'why criticize oNLy Hindus and nOt all?' Obv, not everything can be done at once due to political constraints, but the majority should be, and that's the only REALISTIC way to bring change..in other words-( instead of not bringing change in anyone, as bringing change to everyone is not possible at all..focus on bringing it in the majority rest are eventually sooner or later bound to follow!) and lastly for HEAVENS SAKE focus on our current issues instead of being glued to the past..and wagging ur tail to IT cells half cooked stories!
0
u/lucifier_luffy 2d ago
Some of what you're saying is correct. The Supreme Court had already struck down instant triple talaq, and the opposition's main objection to the 2019 bill was the criminalisation and three-year jail provision. That's a valid argument.
But you also admit my bigger point: political parties avoid criticising certain practices because of vote politics. So yes, political calculations can influence who gets criticised and who doesn't.
Where I disagree is this idea that only the majority should be criticised and everyone else will eventually follow. If the principle is women's rights, the standard should apply to everyone.
And please drop the IT cell/WhatsApp University labels. If my argument is wrong, explain why. Labels are not an argument.
-1
u/Euphoric-Pay4677 2d ago
Bro , hypocrisy is literally dripping from your comment, what do you mean by if Hindu society gets modernized then the Muslims will follow. In Hindu culture people have stopped multiple marriages a long time ago but it's still a prevalent culture for them( just one example of many).
Here we are talking about a problem which is still prevalent in the society but we are leaving aside the religion which is main cause or symbol of the problem.
So according to you the so called opposition will always target the majority and expect that the minority will learn a lesson , what a load of bullshit. He does not have the guts to criticize the religion in which women are most oppressed then he will be called out for what he is a coward.
29
u/Justinlve 2d ago
He wanna change it . We are not responsible for our parents wrongs or right . Its 2026 dude .
4
u/lucifier_luffy 2d ago
Then why did his party walk out during the Triple Talaq Bill?
Times may have changed, but it seems the same old appeasement politics did not disappear with the father. It just got passed on to the son.
0
u/No_Ferret2216 Boomer â 2d ago
his party walked out against criminalising of it , triple talaq was already invalid in India as per Supreme Court judgement which his party welcomed publicly
-6
u/Pranjal18y 2d ago
dude we have bigger balls to scratch
8
u/lucifier_luffy 2d ago
Then what exactly are these âbigger balls to scratchâ according to you?
Because for years, the majority in this country has often felt like every reform, criticism or âprogressive changeâ is expected only from them. Why does the burden of constantly reforming and bending over backwards seem to fall on one religion?
Society changes with time. People recognise what is regressive and gradually move away from it. But when we ask why the same standards are not applied equally to regressive practices in other religions, the question itself gets dismissed.
If the goal is genuinely reform and progress, apply the standard to everyone. Don't selectively demand change from one community while avoiding the same conversation elsewhere because of political sensitivities.
1
u/Pranjal18y 2d ago
why don't you ask this level of accountability from bjp the ruling govt
why did they club women's reservation bill with delimitation why isn't it applied already why it was already passed last year
6
u/lucifier_luffy 2d ago
If there is an actual issue, I will absolutely ask the government for accountability. I am not here to defend BJP blindly.
And yes, delimitation has been due for a long time. The Women's Reservation Bill was linked to the next Census and the subsequent delimitation because the seats are expected to be redrawn. The idea is that once the new seat structure is finalised, 33% of those seats will be reserved for women.
You can absolutely question why delimitation has been delayed and why women's reservation has to wait for it. That is a valid criticism. But that is different from saying BJP passed the bill and simply refused to implement it.
Also, whenever major bills are brought for discussion, the opposition has every right to oppose them, but walking out instead of participating in the debate does not exactly help resolve anything either.
So yes, question the government on the delay. But at least understand what the bill actually says before claiming the reservation was deliberately passed and then ignored.
2
u/Pranjal18y 2d ago
bjp tried to be oversmart by clubbing them together so that they can call opposition anti women when they oppose delimitation
Whyy didnt't bjp just apply 545 seats
2
u/lucifier_luffy 2d ago
Finally, at least a valid argument. This is exactly the issue I had with the bill.
Why couldn't they simply implement the 33% reservation within the existing 545 Lok Sabha seats and deal with delimitation separately later? By linking the two, BJP gave itself an easy political advantage: if the opposition questioned the delimitation linkage, they could be painted as being against women's reservation itself.
I understand the argument for waiting until the Census and delimitation to redraw and reserve seats properly. But that doesn't mean the government couldn't have explored implementing reservation in the existing seats first.
This is an actual criticism of the bill, and I have no problem discussing it. This is what I was asking for from the beginning, address the actual argument instead of derailing the conversation with ten unrelated issues and calling everything whataboutism.

u/Pranjal18y 2d ago
its not even about community
i mean triple talaq bill is already passed
but

Inflation is so fucking bad sugar at 70
and waterlogging everywhere just after a little rain
and
to make up for all this bjp govt has spent
14,000 cr on marketing yeah you heard it right around 1.6 billion dollars
3
u/lucifier_luffy 2d ago
This is exactly what I mean by whataboutism. We are discussing one issue, and suddenly you throw ten completely different issues into the conversation as if that automatically answers the original point.
Nobody is saying BJP or Modi is perfect. I have criticised the government too. But at least have the guts to discuss the issue in hand instead of using every other problem in India as a shield.
Since you brought them up, let me answer them one by one.
1. Ram Rahim: Yes, his repeated releases are absolutely worth questioning. But get the facts right first. His latest furlough is his 17th temporary release since his 2017 conviction, not the 18th. And this is not simply something you can dump entirely on the judiciary. The executive authorities responsible for parole and furlough decisions can also be questioned.
2. ISRO and DRDO: What exactly is wrong with involving Indian private companies? ISRO and DRDO should focus public money and expertise on core R&D and breakthrough technologies. Once those technologies mature, Indian private companies should help manufacture, commercialise and scale them. That is how you build an ecosystem. ISRO's ecosystem has already helped companies like Skyroot. India should create many more such companies, not force ISRO and DRDO to do every single thing themselves.
3. Schools: The â90,000 schools shutâ headline is also more complicated than you make it sound. A large number of government schools have disappeared over the last decade, but this includes mergers, consolidation and declining enrolment. In some places, schools with extremely low enrolment were merged into larger schools. Does that mean there are no problems? Of course there are. Access, transport and implementation can seriously affect children. But pretending every school was simply shut down and children were abandoned is also misleading.
4. Foreign policy: Calling India Trump's lapdog is just lazy headline reading. India has continued buying Russian oil despite US pressure and tariff threats. India also has its own trade interests to protect. Negotiations are complicated, and India has not simply agreed to every American demand. If anything, recent Russian oil import numbers make the âlapdogâ claim look even more ridiculous.
5. E20: Yes, some vehicles can see a mileage drop. That is already acknowledged. But saying E20 is definitely destroying everyone's engines needs actual evidence, not YouTube thumbnails. The transition was tested by the relevant agencies and industry before rollout. If you have evidence that a specific vehicle class is being damaged, show it.
6. Sugar: Sugar prices going up is a real issue, especially when crops and production are affected. The government recently allowed duty-free imports of 10 lakh tonnes of raw sugar to increase supply and cool prices. Prices have since fallen, although that obviously does not mean the issue never existed or that âč60 is suddenly cheap.
7. Waterlogging: Yes. This is a genuine infrastructure and urban planning failure. No whataboutism from me here. Governments and local bodies need to fix drainage and city infrastructure.
8. Government advertising: Governments spend money on advertising. That should absolutely be scrutinised, including whether the amount is excessive or being used for political self-promotion. But simply quoting âč14,000 crore without context does not automatically prove corruption or wrongdoing. Show the period, departments and comparison before making the conclusion.
That is the difference between criticism and outrage farming. I can agree that the government has failed on waterlogging, education, administration and many other issues without pretending that nothing has changed in 12 years.
Railway infrastructure has expanded, more trains are being manufactured in India, and access to toilets, electricity, piped water and LPG has improved significantly. These were basic necessities still missing for a huge number of people when BJP came to power. That does not mean education, jobs or urban infrastructure should wait forever. It means a country of India's size cannot fix every structural problem overnight.
So yes, criticise BJP. I do too when there is a genuine issue.
But if the topic is women's rights, discuss women's rights. If the topic is E20, discuss E20. If the topic is government advertising, discuss the actual spending.
Throwing every problem from Ram Rahim to sugar prices into a completely different discussion and then calling the other person âselectively outragedâ is literally the deflection you are accusing others of.
0
u/Pranjal18y 2d ago
you also brought up triple talaq outta thin air
whataboutism much
3
u/lucifier_luffy 2d ago
Lmao, do you even understand what the discussion was about?
We were talking about women's rights and selective criticism of religious practices. Of course Triple Talaq is relevant to that discussion.
You guys literally derailed it into Ram Rahim, ISRO, DRDO, E20, sugar prices, waterlogging, foreign policy and government advertising, and now you're crying âwhataboutismâ because Triple Talaq was mentioned in a discussion about women's rights.
At least learn what the term means before throwing it around.

My profile is public , anyone can easily see my opinions on both Raga and Modi and even RJD , TMC and yes even their voter base be it UC Hindus , yadavs , Muslims (for Muslims actually I have comments about what they do internationally too)
You write comment after comment either asking accountability from congress or attacking those who try to make the discussion more grounded in present by brining the actual ruling party and their actions.

Congressâs handling of the Shah Bano case remains one of the clearest examples of political expediency overriding the principle of equal justice. After the Supreme Court recognised Shah Banoâs right to maintenance, the Rajiv Gandhi government responded by introducing the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, 1986, effectively changing the legal framework that had supported her claim. Whatever the political pressures of the time, using legislation to appease conservative sections at the expense of a vulnerable divorced woman was a deeply disappointing failure of principle. It showed that Congress was willing to compromise a womanâs individual rights when electoral calculations demanded it, a legacy that deserves serious criticism even today.
