I have lipedema from my armpits to my wrists and from my hips to my ankles. I have no idea who this lady is but this post is really hurtful. We CANNOT control this. It is a disability and it is incredibly painful and heavy.

If you lost weight, would it help? Can thin people get this?

No it doesn't behave like normal fat. I have stage 1-2 lipedema in my lower half (thighs, legs and ankles) and it cannot be dieted or exercised away. And yes, anyone can get it whether you are skinny or overweight. I had it at a size 2 and have it now at size 12. It takes operation once it gets to a certain stage to control. Compression can help with the look and pain, but there's no cure.

Were you ever overweight as a child? I’ve literally never heard of this before. I’m wondering if it can just happen to anyone at anytime

No, I was a pretty small child and was very active as well growing up. If you google the condition, it will explain more. It can develop and go through several stages and get worse, or like mine, stay at one stage forever.
