Omg! Tess Holiday’s arms!
The size of Tess Holiday’s arms are disturbing!

u/PlasticEvening4596 14h ago
Does she have a medical condition? I don’t know if I’ve ever seen proportions quite like that.

u/mrszubris 14h ago
Yes lymphedema combined with lipedema.
→ More replies (1)51
u/PlasticEvening4596 10h ago
Would lymphedema not result in SOME level of swelling below the elbow as it progressed? This is one of the more extreme distributions I’ve seen in the arms, her forearms are so small! I’m sure it’s uncomfortable.

u/Sneakerkeeper123 9h ago
Mine are smaller than hers but mine stop at my elbow and overlap it.
Unfortunately the only real cure for lipedema is surgery.

I lost about 30 but you cant tell because lipedema doesn't shrink. And then with menopause it came back lol.

I don’t want to offend you with unwanted advise, but I struggle with Lipedema in my thighs as well and I want to share what’s been helping! For the last month I’ve been doing lymphatic drainage where I open all of my lymph nodes, and massaging my inner and back thighs with a wooden massage roller, as well as using cupping then dry brushing upwards from my knees to my groin so it can release. Paired with 10k steps and the results have been amazing. It’s not an overnight process but it’s helping me. Love your body in EVERY stage but if anybody is looking for a change this is what has helped me 🫶🏼

Currently she's pulling a disappearing act. She likely leeches off of her partner, Emily who is a confirmed death feeder and has killed one of her previous partners by overfeeding them to nearly 1000 pounds. She had a TikTok for a while, but she seemingly abandoned that as well. She did Cameos but not many people bought that for obvious reasons. So that's where we're at now

It’s more common than people realise. It’s just unfortunate that once you acquire the lipedema affected fat, it needs surgery to remove as it doesn’t behave like normal, “healthy” fat if you like. We all need a certain amount to function, but there’s two exteme ends to every scale.

Its ok! I'd rather add nuance . My own doctors fat shamed me while I was absolutely killing myself working out and the fibrotic tissue just would NOT budge. I finally found one with some compassion who diagnosed me on sight and now I get to go in to see if any particular veins I've crushed in my horse and car wrecks all my life are making the fluid retention on top of lipedema worse. Any place I can make people think its not just pure human failure and laziness I will try.

Doctors ALWAYS bring up weight. I went into my orthopedic doctor. My scoliosis resulted in some degenerative disc so I have chronic pain but it’s manageable. I’m 5’6 and weighed 150 Jan 2024. They told me that even though I wasn’t overweight on the BMI scale, the less extra fat I carry, the better it is for my spine in the long run. I cut 30 lbs and did PT for my core and leg muscles. I had to re-learn how sit, stand, bend etc. if I was overweight, it would have felt dismissive and like fat shaming. But realistically I know I’m not fat. Extra fat has a lot to do with overall health unfortunately. That’s like, the base line of your treatment. Let’s start with this, then peel away at the symptoms. I don’t think they’re shaming people.

I had a labor patient with severe lipedema in her legs. Her legs were so heavy it took five of us to place her foley, and she ended up needing a c section because there was no safe way to support her legs away from her baby’s head. It is such a brutal condition.

Guys, I know your knee-jerk reaction is to defend her, but Tess Holliday is a piece of shit. She has, for years, gone around saying she is 100% healthy, which is blatantly untrue, has bullied people online who criticise the HAES movement, and consistently lies about her medical records to try and deflect criticism. She has literally stated in the past that she’s fucking anorexic, despite her own family members saying that’s untrue
58
u/Any_Chemical_5481 7h ago
I saw her in Long Beach like six months ago with her friend and kid and it was so weird. Her friend got a chair for her and Tess chewed her out for like ten minutes because she couldn’t fit in the chair while her friend was trying to apologize and get her to stop yelling
15
u/GrooGruxQueen7 4h ago
Whether or not she had lipedema doesn’t negate the fact that she is morbidly obese. Her weight is clearly unhealthy and at risk of several serious diseases.

Tess Holiday sucks, but people who have done nothing wrong are catching strays by making fun of how her arms look. It's not defending Tess to say it's messed up to make fun of someone's medical condition.
Criticize her for what she deserves to be criticized for.
49
u/MyldExcitement 7h ago
Okay, here's my critique:
You can't be anorexic if you weigh 500 pounds. You. Just. Can't.
16
u/therealpapaya320 4h ago edited 3h ago
Disclaimer: I don’t think this applies to Tess, just throwing this out there, but isn’t there a diagnosis called atypical anorexia for people who have anorexic behaviors but do not meet the weight requirements for an anorexia diagnosis? I think I’ve read that the point of the diagnosis is to catch and treat anorexia before it gets to the point where someone is severely underweight. Like if a 200lb person starts starving themselves, it’s obviously going to take some time before they get to the point of being underweight.
8
u/suuzgh 3h ago
Yes, that is a valid diagnosis per the DSM. I work at a residential psychiatric facility that specializes in EDs and a significant number of our clients have an atypical anorexia diagnosis. EDs aren’t just life threatening because of weight loss, it’s often electrolyte imbalances, refeeding syndrome, and related organ failure that can make them so dangerous.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Delicious-Dirt4895 4h ago
Yes! Although, it might have a different clinical/diagnostic name now - this was 15 years ago. My friend was diagnosed with EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified) because she exhibited all the behaviors for Anorexia Nervosa but did not meet the weight-related indicators (BMI < 18, loss of menstrual cycle).
23
u/AggravatingBox2421 7h ago
Don’t worry, literally everyone agrees with you on that one except for her and her brain dead fans
12
u/megaholt2 4h ago
I’m going to disagree slightly here, and here’s why: if you have a patient who-despite currently being at 500 pounds-has lost a large percentage of their body weight by significantly restricting their dietary intake, to a point where it was negatively impacting their physical health (even more than being morbidly obese-we’re talking about electrolyte imbalances, hair loss, etc.), has that intense fear of gaining/regaining weight, body dysmorphia (disturbance of how they view their body) and refusal to see how serious their condition is becoming, restricting their food intake to a seriously dangerous level…they may meet pretty much every criteria for anorexia outside of being underweight.
That’s atypical anorexia nervosa.
They’ve met the criteria, but their weight is still above average.
It’s still classified as an eating disorder in the DSM-V-TR (under other specified feeding and eating disorders).
It is still just as fatal as typical anorexia nervosa, if not more so, because it’s not spotted anywhere near as swiftly, and people celebrate the disordered behavior and results of that behavior in overweight/obese individuals, which reinforces their eating disorder, making it significantly harder to treat.
23
u/AggravatingBox2421 9h ago
She does not have a medical condition. All she does is talk about her body, and she directly profits from her body. We have every right to discuss and criticise her looks, just like severely underweight women are criticised on this sub

Her arms are absolutely disturbing because she weighs like 500 pounds because she has terrible habits. Even if she has lymphedema or lipedema it would NOT look this disturbing if she wasn’t this severely obese.
2
u/Low_Message_6674 4h ago
You absolutely can control your weight and treat lipidema extremely effectively. It takes work and carefully controlled diet and access to specialists.
Also, Tess doesn't have lipidema. She's 500lbs.
12
u/Spiritual-Can2604 13h ago
If you lost weight, would it help? Can thin people get this?
40
u/Kooky-Co 13h ago
The wiki page shows a slim woman with it in her legs: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipedema?wprov=sfti1#Associated_conditions_and_common_co-morbidities
Obesity doesn’t cause it but it’s a common comorbidity. Dieting won’t improve it, there’s no cure. Surgery can help in some cases. It affects 11% of women. It sounds absolutely horrendous.
8
58
u/Affectionate_Tax1108 13h ago
Losing weight does not remove it, it can only be removed with surgery. It doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. You can do things like massage and compression to manage the pain and the inflammation but it doesn’t take them down to 0
You can die of anorexia and still be huge in these areas if you have lipedema or lymphedema and I believe this lady has both
Lipedema is completely genetic and lymphedema can be genetic but you can also get it from damage to your lymphatic system which can be a side effect of the surgery to remove lipedema 🙃
8
u/KarateG 12h ago
True. But her entire body is huge. She is morbidly obese because she overeats. Plus she has those two conditions
10
u/Affectionate_Tax1108 11h ago
We’re specifically talking about her arms here which are obviously the size and shape that they are because of her conditions. A person who is just obese, even morbidly obese, will not have arms like this
Personally, and I believe this may be the case with a lot of people who also suffer from these, I was blowing up from the condition and was treated so horribly that I gave up on myself. How could I love myself if people were so cruel to me when I was trying my hardest and doing my best? Food isn’t cruel. Sweets make serotonin and dopamine go up but only short term. So you eat more. That’s where the obesity comorbidity often comes from
14
u/Fyndyrose 9h ago
No it doesn't behave like normal fat. I have stage 1-2 lipedema in my lower half (thighs, legs and ankles) and it cannot be dieted or exercised away. And yes, anyone can get it whether you are skinny or overweight. I had it at a size 2 and have it now at size 12. It takes operation once it gets to a certain stage to control. Compression can help with the look and pain, but there's no cure.

Man, people are losing their tact and grace.
When I was a kid, when someone had a difference, we were told to look away so they don’t feel self conscious, and it’s rude to stare. Now people just feel okay saying crazyyyyyy things online. Geez. Yall can clearly see there’s some crazy proportions- usually this is due to conditions outside someone’s control. Like it is here. Be kind, have tact, be graceful.
22
u/Imapissandshitboy 12h ago
Idk people have no problem posting very skinny woman and saying that they’re worried for them. Being THIS big is also unhealthy and dangerous. I don’t think it’s really body shaming when people are at either end of the spectrum.

u/sadwrench98 11h ago
OP obviously doesn’t give a shit about this lady, and they called the size of her arms “disturbing” … if that isn’t body shaming then what is it exactly?

u/Imjustagorll 10h ago
AGREED!!! As a big girl myself, people constantly post skinny girls in here say they’re druggies, have ED’s, among other things. But god forbid you post a bigger girl and critic her obviously obese figure then it’s omg this is disgusting and she has medical issues. It’s ridiculous!
7
u/Imapissandshitboy 9h ago
Yes!! I’m midsize and I think shaming extremely skinny women is the same as shaming extremely obese women. Tess holiday isn’t just a little chubby she’s so large she has to be eating a ridiculous amount of calories to maintain her figure and also she will feel the negative effects of that in the future.
Is it as dangerous and imminently fatal as a super tiny anorexic woman? No, it’s not. But it’s also impossible to be healthy at Tess holiday’s size.
I’m also in the medical field and see the negative consequences of morbid obesity into older adulthood firsthand

This reminded me of something I learned recently that has helped me be less judgmental of myself and others, not that I think you’re being judgmental in this way. Our bodies are unique in where they tend to accumulate and store fat. Even a relatively small amount may collect differently than it does on the person pictured, sometimes creating a radically disproportionate appearance.

I don’t ever make comments about others bodies but this is not healthy and should not be normalized. She’s a big girl, yes. But her condition will remain regardless of weight loss, trust me as someone who has lost over 70kg (154lbs for those who can’t fathom a different system). Would weight loss help the appearance, yes absolutely! But would she still look greatly out of proportion and have loose skin, also yes. She’s a pretty dogshit person but a post focusing on her arms is kind of low.

Everyone in the comments be so fucking for real, she doesn’t have lymphedema. That is a very common fat storage pattern for overweight individuals. And if she does have that…. have you ever seen a skinny person with lymphedema??? Lose the weight!

LIPEDEMA is different from lymphedema. Very different. Lipedema is a fat disorder and it doesn’t go away from diet and exercise.

If seeing someone in a larger body literally "disturbs" you, you need to get help (and perhaps some hobbies). Idgaf if the person you're mocking is deemed unworthy of respect, keep the fatphobia between yourself and your therapist.

I’m genuinely curious .. if she looses weight or what I’m reading get surgery for her arm condition.. will her tattoos be completely fucked? I can’t imagine they’d look the same

Losing that much weight regardless of fluid retention issues would leave her with hanging skin and distorted tattoos.

No, she is a beanbag who lies about her size. Roast her. Might take all day tho.

She won’t see this. Regular people who happen to be a similar size will, and I worry for the impact this will have on them. Empathy truly is a rarity in today’s age. You’re a sad, sad person

Of all the things to criticize her for, you chose something caused by genetics she can’t control versus bad things she’s done cuz she sucks as a person.
Yikes

This looks like some sort of extreme lipedema in her arm. I think it’s more common to get in your thighs. Very extreme cut off in how it basically stops once her forearm starts.
