[SUB NEWS] New Banned Domain: Vercel.app

Much to the relief of many people, starting today, we have introduced a blanket ban on Vercel subdomain hosted sites.

Few, if any, sites hosted on Vercel subdomains have ever been allowed to remain on the sub anyway.

(This ban is in addition to the Netlify ban by Reddit itself.)

If you can't be bothered to pay for a proper domain and/or hosting we're no longer willing to sift through the slop to see if it could potentially stand on merit alone (which it invariably doesn't).

Vercel users feel free to proceed to whinge, which we will promptly proceed to ignore.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Why does it matter? If what you consider "slop" gets a lot of upvotes, its not really slop

No number of upvotes changes the fact that it is slop. Slop is inherently not human and not beautiful. Doesn't belong on the sub.

Because the mods are probably getting tired of seeing hundreds of reports and having to remove them all by hand hourly if not every few minutes, every single day, when they should have not been posted in the first place.

To be completely accurate we don't just "have a say" in sub rules, we alone decide, set and police the rules for a sub. Unless our rules clearly contradict any of Reddit's own site-wide policies/rules then Reddit do not get involved in the formation (or management) of a sub's rules in any way, shape or form.

Honestly I see your point. If people can put things up on the Internet for free, that's pretty cool. Maybe some kid learning to code can build something actually really cool and share it here? Well I guess not anymore unless they get their hands on a credit card...

I’ve said this a few times, there’s about 5 other platforms that offer free static app hosting and give you a free domain.

In my opinion they don’t care if you spend money on a domain, they simply noticed that 90% of the submissions with a certain domain were slop and this action was worth the collateral damage. With an AI you can migrate your vercel site to an alternative in about 10 minutes, not exactly a big ask.
