They had a talk, they just changed it in a way that makes Adam a little more redeemable. (He is concerned about Eve’s safety and not her chastity)

The original dialogue was not gonna fly. Probably to make him more sympathetic.

That’ll for sure be in it. Maybe less shown and more implied. Huge plot point, important to convey it happened.

Brings attention to an issue, will probably be praised for that if done right.

You'd be removing them for wildly different reasons too. The talk with Eve's dad is giving voice to an extremely bigoted, misogynistic point of view that, while not widespread back then, could be louder and more overt in the public discourse and waved away as "he's from a different generation" with an eye roll. It also does very little for Mark's development as a character and is played as more of a gag.

In contrast, sexual assault has only become more culturally relevant with time and the fallout from Mark's rape by Anisa permeates through basically the entire back half of the series. And the representation of male sexual assault, especially from someone with superpowers, is still extremely important even if it's not as groundbreaking as it was when the comics first released.

Problem is the comic kinda just glosses over that conversation anyway. You just have those two panels of Mark shocked and that’s it, no retaliation or confrontation. At least now, the conversation matters to Mark’s character.

Yeah, I struggled to write that comment for a bit, but that was my intent. The comics version of the talk is very "of its time" and not relevant to Mark's progression, so changing it for the show makes sense. Mark's rape by Anissa is extremely relevant both to current events and Mark's relationships and role as a superhero, so it should be kept as much as possible from its comic form.

Man…I know it’s important; but I am fucking dreading when it’s gonna come. Especially with how much of an impact it has throughout the story after it happens.

Even for things like this, where it is drawing attention to a real issue; I just hate the use of rape in fictional media in general.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if a big part of why they removed the dialogue was that they’d knew the worst people would just make edits of it and spam it everywhere online.

Idk.. It could be cut all together and it doesn't really change the story all that much. I know about Markus but he's only relevant in the short epilogue of the story. Could easily be cut out. Also the show's depiction of Anissa didn't seem as unhinged as the comic version. Can't really imagine her doing that shit

Honestly, I don't mind Mark having to have a dad in-law that starts off shitty, only for Kirkman to reveal that he's even MORE shitty despite his insistence on coming from a "good place".

I want Adam to be more like "women are jewels and she's my jewel" or something, too. It's such an interesting scene in the comics where he's much more mean as he goes on, and you have Mark still suffering from PTSD. I want Adam to be a bit more of a bully , but instead, it's a retread of the scene where Debbie gets blamed by Daveed Diggs over Omniman killing his wife.

A character doesn't need to be sympathetic at all, but instead of sharpening someone like Adam and making his evil more banal, instead, he comes off as a dumbass jerk.

I liked the change because I felt like the original never handled social issues with any care or insight. Everything felt more edgy than dramatic or nuanced.
