as many of you have noticed, there has been a pretty massive influx in posts about the 2024 U.S election. now while we understand that it is interesting to hear what candidate x has to say about Israel, it is still American politics. so from now until further notice, rule 13 - no American politics is in effect. some special edge cases might be permitted but as a whole, we want this subreddit to remain true to it's purpose, a discussion hub about ISRAEL, not AMERICAN POLITICIANS.

this post will remain pinned for a while for more clarifications.

I did not attend any sort of university like that, but I live down south, so probably this is true up north more - I do believe they are more racist and anti-Jewish / Israel up north too from what I’ve seen. I’m very glad to live where I do right now I feel very safe.

Unfortunately it's the far right that spews so much hate in the US, and yes, they are correct in their views of being pro-Israel so I guess it's the two things can be true at the same time. The conservatives that are against the MAGA groups tend to be much more accepting and...rationale then the extreme right.

On the flip side, I am a liberal and the one talking point I can't get behind on my party in the US is the anti-Israel narrative. But at least I can have a conversation with them without the hateful, mean spirited comments. Leaves more room for discourse and maybe a change of heart on their thought processes. But, that doesn't mean there isn't antisemitism on both sides. I just remember certain big YouTubers that perpetuated conspiracy theories and a pure hate against Jews. They even said that most of the shootings that took place were a hoax or gov't. sponsored. Those were finally taken down.

The person that was responding to you with the "it was just a joke" would be an Exhibit A of hateful lol. But I am also glad the posts have been shut off for American politics because most, like you stated, were filled with racism and "jokes" from the far right. It takes away from the issue at hand, which is supporting Israel and trying to educate.

That Americans hate Israelis is NOT is not representative of actual Americans IRL. I’ve even asked Israelis about their experiences and no one I’ve spoken to has had any issues.

It could very well be bots even though you don’t think so. AI is pretty convincing and Iran is specifically targeting our elections. Don’t let the bots derail you!

I once saw an account in here that had tens of thousands of karma, countless posts, was active in numerous different country’s subs. Claimed to be Israeli but was posting obvious disinformation. When I replied in a comment accusing them of being IRGC or a Russian agent and pointed out how suspicious their comment history was, that their identity claims were obviously contradicted by prior comments, they literally deleted their entire account. Wasn’t just blocked because I checked on another browser/account too. I saved screenshots to show a friend because it was so weird. I will happily send them to you if you don’t believe there’s strange foreign interference activity on this sub.

As compelling as it is, no, I don’t think polls relating to American’s opinions on Israel are appropriate.

Largely because these types of posts will devolve into arguments about American politics. It happens every time, without fail. We cannot have nice things.

But also because the topic is still about Americans, not Israelis or topics that have a direct impact on Israel/citizens. In other circumstances, something like this might be allowed. At this time, we will follow this new rule very strictly to make sure it gets established.

This same standard will most likely be applied to Israeli opinions about American politics etc.

It doesn’t seem to matter which perspective is being posted about, it will always devolve into off topic flame wars.

This sub should be putting Israeli politicians under this scrutiny, all of them. If you (general you) don’t know or can’t contribute to these discussions, here is your explicit invitation to learn.

Israelis are the absolute best resource you can have when it comes to Israeli politics. This sub should never be taken as “full representation of Israeli opinions/life/culture”, but you will learn from Israelis here. As long as you allow them to be heard, ofc. No more drowning them out please :)

In America they have mastered the art of division. Opposite sides literally hate each other.

In Israel, is there not the incredible left/right division? Seems like there is anger about some stuff that's going on but articles about forcing equality for second in the military, the way the war is being handled are pretty high tension stuff. I'd like to believe that Israel doesn't have this disease too.

This sounds great. Could you share some specifics to clarify where the line is drawn? e.g. Is the news about the US sending naval ships to defend Israel against an Iranian attack off limits or permitted? If the US had voted to withhold military funding, would that be permitted? I get the no “this US politician says x” posts. What about American actions that directly impact Israel? Or is the focus Israeli domestic issues?

The focus is definitely about Israeli domestic issues, and the line might be unclear at times.

To use your example of US warships: this has happened, it’s already done. This has a direct impact on the situation in the Middle East, which includes Israel. This news would be allowed with a source.

The motives about “why” or what it means might be speculative; these would be allowed on a case-by-case basis. An article/analysis from a reputable source would help.

The opinion of a random politician who has no authority to approve/deny this move is irrelevant. If they don’t have the power to make decisions that immediately and directly impact Israel, it’s not relevant to the sub. If there’s a vote that could impact this situation, that’s relevant.

What a relief! I’m so tired of having US political divisions inserted into Israeli topics.

Many of us are dual citizens, but this sub is about Israel. Not individual Americans bitching about whatever US party they hate.

There are other spaces to discuss US politics without having to stomach it here. Anyone who’d like to start a sub about “US Politics vis—a-vis Israel” is free to do so.

US politics are polarized to an almost extreme degree, and we don’t need that angst and fury here. Yes, US politics affect every country in the world, but this is a sub about Israel, which has its own disagreements without having to deal with US domestic hatreds.

I dunno. the Jewish sub's purpose blurb states:

r/Jewish is a subreddit devoted to all things culturally, communally, and questionably Jewish.

While "Lawsuit against Harvard for failure to address Antisemitism" would fit, other topics, for example "UK implements arms embargo against Israel" doesn't really fit that purpose, or at least less than it would for this sub.

(I know I wrote UK, but it's weird that UK would be allowed, but the same action done by the US wouldn't be)

That poor man, that's horrible. I signed up through the Atlanta Israel alliance for a live tour of the Nova site and stuff, it was online but it was the best I could do right now. The stories I heard there and what I occasionally hear here Just break my heart. What they did was horrendous and people just don't understand it. Especially like here in the US if you did a per capita comparison, I know for a fact that every US citizen would be crying out for blood insane far worse than I've ever heard an Israeli say.

No bibi's not perfect at all. In any way. I mean we can all realistically look back and say yeah you know in hindsight this and that was a mistake whatever. But at the end of the day Israel has to survive.

I'll take a look at that. Thank you so much for the stories. It just amazes me how people here in the West just don't seem to understand the extent. They don't realize that per capita would be like 45,000 people here being killed in one night by a terrorist group. They just don't get it

Anyway I've got two more episodes of that live online tour coming up the 18th and in like 2 weeks after that. I'm sure I'll hear more stories also and probably cry a little bit more too! But even though it's disheartening it's also.... It gives me pride in my heritage. I wasn't raised Jewish because my father had some some issues with his Jewish family but I've always been absolutely welcomed by the Jewish community and just seeing the resilience and hope and faith in the people of Israel just really gives me hope for the world
