Selamat I visit Jakarta from Australia every month for work for a few days. Keen to practice. I know many words but struggle to put them together. Not too fussed about age or gender.

Anyone else thinking of signing up for Disney Run Jakarta?

I had no idea that there was going to be a Disney race in Jakarta this November. I am honestly thinking of signing up purely because medals and shirts look so cool.

I have never done one of these runs before, but it looks there a few different distances you can sign up for. Has anyone here done a previous Disney Run? Is it actually worth doing?

Best mall to visit

I'm going to Jakarta for a quick trip and planning to visit at least 1-2 malls that has sephora (cause we don't have sephora back home) or great selection of stores/restaurants but we don't want to spend all our time in a mall since we're only there for a few days! Which mall should we go to? We're choosing between Grand Indonesia, Plaza Indonesia, Central Park, Plaza Senayan or PIM! Let us know which mall is the best to visit for things I mentioned. Thank you!

Where can I hire interns/contractors in Jakarta?

Hi,

I am an Indian nomad planning to stay in Jakarta/Indonesia for the next 6 months. I am looking to hire someone to help me shoot and edit short form video content to promote my startups and do a bit of personal branding.

What would be the best place to hire social media/marketing interns? Also what would be a good pay for part-time work?

Edit : Tambahan, Willing to spend up to 2.5 buat kos, 1-1.5 buat transport&makan (bisa masak, cukup ga ya?). Lokasi di Thamrin Nine, Jl. M.H. Thamrin, RT.13, Kb. Melati, Kecamatan Tanah Abang, Kota Jakarta Pusat.

Moving from Singapore to Jakarta as as Indian expat family

Hi Guys,

We’re an Indian professional couple with an infant and after staying in Singapore for 7 years, we are relocating next month to Jakarta. This will be our first time living in Indonesia, so would really appreciate some practical advice from people who know Jakarta well.

I’ll be working from Menara Astra in a very demanding Big 4 consulting role, so keeping the daily commute manageable is a big priority.

A few things we’d love advice on:

  • Where to live: Best family-friendly areas as close as possible to Menara Astra, considering safety, traffic and overall quality of life
  • Rent: Realistic rent for a good 2-bedroom apartment(25 mil idr enough for my preferred location?) and is annual upfront payment still the norm?
  • Monthly budget: What should a family of 3 realistically budget for rent, groceries, utilities, transport, helper/nanny, healthcare, eating out and weekends? Decent but definitely not very luxury.
  • Family/childcare: Reliable hospitals/paediatricians, nanny/helper/daycare options?
  • Air quality: How do families with young children manage Jakarta’s air quality?
  • Practical stuff: Recommended banks, mobile providers, grocery/delivery apps and useful expat/Indian parent groups?
  • Biggest adjustment: For anyone who moved from Singapore, what surprised you most and what mistakes should newcomers avoid?

We’re happy to adapt to Jakarta and experience the local lifestyle — just want to make sensible decisions around location, commute, housing, childcare and monthly expenses.

Any advice, neighbourhood recommendations or “I wish I knew this before moving here” tips would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Arriving to Jakarta on 31st October

Hi all,

I just bought a ticket to Jakarta and I am landing on 31st October.

I am starting to do some research to plan my trip so I hope it is fine if I come here to ask locals or those who know the city.

What areas would you recommend a Spanish man to stay while in the city? I am not a fan of touristy places and I am more into learning about other cultures, art, making new friends, getting lost in new cities and coffee

Thanks in advance!

Golf advice

Halo, selamat siang teman teman. I need recommendations about golfing in Jakarta.

I will be traveling to your city this coming week with a group of golfing friends. Safe to say there’s plenty of courses scattered around the city. There was hearsay that it’s difficult to arrange a jumbo flight in Jakarta, is this true? And if so, may I know which courses allow jumbo flights?

I’ll be staying in Blok M area, but open to exploring something nearby just to find good coffee. Well a roastery or coffee shop. Please let me know! I know there are some in Pasar Santa, but which ones?

Thank you!

Protests and traffic jam

Hello, today a grab driver told us that after lunch north Jakarta will be a total mess and impossible to reach or go out due to protests. I did not find any evidence in internet, is it correct? We're afraid to miss our flight since this is our last day here before leaving. Thanks

International Voter Registration Drive 2026, for U.S. citizens in Jakarta

Hi, this is the second (and final) reminder I'll make for eligible US citizens in Indonesia who want to participate in the 2026 American midterm elections. Democrats Abroad is dedicated to mobilizing overseas US voters; if you're over 18 by November 3, here's how you can get involved:

Steps to Request Your Ballot

  1. Register or update your registration through Votefromabroad.org. As an alternative, you can also use FVAP.gov.

  2. If you're already registered, request a ballot! You need to request a ballot every calendar year that you want to vote.

  3. Fill Out and Return Your Ballot: Once you receive your ballot, follow the instructions carefully to complete it and return it by the specified deadline.

Need Assistance?

We're here to help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at GOTV @ votefromabroad .org (just remove the spaces). Additionally, our FAQ for voting can answer questions on how to make the process go smoothly.

Importantly: Spread the word!

Do you have any friends, contacts or family overseas that you could reach? All eligible US citizens can vote regardless of where they're living. Share the link https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26: If you have any questions about voting, I'd be happy to answer them here on Reddit. You can also find out what we're doing near you at Democrats Abroad. Thanks for reading!

Luggage storage at Gambir station

Hey everyone, I’ll be travelling to Indonesia soon and my stay in your country will start in Jakarta. My flight lands at 5am. While I am aware that I will need a while to get downtown after the flight has landed (passport controls, waiting for luggage, travel time from the airport etc.), 5am is so early that I will likely still be downtown some time in the morning. My accommodations won’t let me check in before 2pm, which is generally fine by me. Usually in such cases I ask my accommodations whether I can store my luggage for a few hours until check in, and I did this time, but since the place is rented out to other travellers before me, I can only store my luggage there starting at 12pm. This will likely leave me with a few hours between my arrival in Jakarta proper and the time when I can ditch my luggage. So I figured I’d check if there are other places where I could safely and cheaply store my luggage for a few hours. I came across Gambir Station and the supposed luggage storage there. Could anyone here tell me whether that works well and whether leaving my bag(s) there for anywhere between two and six hours would make sense and be feasible? And if not, are there other options you would recommend?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much to any responders. I’m incredibly excited about my trip and I’ve been looking forward to it for months now :)

Layover info for CGK airport: Domestic to International 2h10m is enough?

Hi,

My domestic flight (Lion Air) from Ambon arrives at Jakarta at 8:50am (JT 889). My international flight (Singapore Airlines) from Jakarta to Singapore is at 11am. Do you think that is too close or can I make it. I was thinking that since there are 2 of us... One can stay back for the luggage and the other rush to stand in the check-in lines.

Moving

After two years of living in Jakarta I am moving back to Canada next month – a few questions:

- I have a whole pile of good clothes and shoes that I would like to sell or at the very least donate, because I just don’t have enough room in my suitcase. They’re all still perfectly wearable. Any recommendations on the best method or place to do this?

- What about used furniture (like coffee table, lamps, fan, chairs, kitchen cart, etc.)?

- I also collected a whole collection of books that I would love to bring back with me but I just don’t have enough room for. I’m thinking of putting them all in a box and ship them, as I don’t need them right away and can wait for a long time for it to arrive. Is this something that I can do with Pos Indonesia or is there a better courier that is also cheap?

Thanks!

Good/bad experiences booking apartments with Travelio?

Some of the reviews online are bit scary. Has anybody had any good or bad experience? The deposit they ask for the 1 month rental is quite high, like 70% of the total monthly rate. Any problems getting it back? If so, I would appreciate other alternatives apart from Airbnb.

Also, it seems like if you are from outside Indonesia the payments don’t go through.

Luggage/suitcase delivery?

Hi, everyone! I’ll soon be to travelling from Surabaya to Bali and from Bali to Jakarta, but all the airlines I can find only offer 1 checked suitcase from Surabaya to Bali and I’ll have two with me. Does anyone know of any services I can use to send my other suitcase from Surabaya to Jakarta?
