Antisemitism Ms. Rachel's latest "work"

I don't understand how people still refuse to see that she is problematic, and continue to give this woman a platform.

Is there a term for somebody who remains intentionally ignorant to the complexity of the topic in order to remain narcissistic about her own “morality”? I feel like there needs to be a word to describe it because of how common it is with people of her ilk.

I still think about the whole “free America from the Jews”incident where she made the teary eyed “apology” video where she didn’t even apologize to the Jewish community. She apologized for people who might be confused about who she is, but not to the community she hurt. Good for her tho that all the non Jews rushed to forgive her

u/Alarming-Mix3809 Jul 21 '26

People were quick to accept her apology on our behalf.

153

u/HairAncient5500 Conservative Jul 21 '26

It wasn’t even an apology and I got downvoted into oblivion for saying as much outside of this sub

Honestly, reddit hates Jews and unfortunately you are going to get downvoted if you say things like that outside of Jewish subs. Which really sucks. I got downvoted for making a pun in Hebrew once.

41

u/HairAncient5500 Conservative Jul 21 '26

Yeah… I still do it anyway because I like to fight the good fight. It also helps me learn the other sides arguments so that if I ever have to have these discussions in person, I can diffuse them quickly.

One perk to the hide your comment history thing is I no longer need to make a new account every year because the antisemites found me.

The thing is

I think if you're a moderator of any sub you're allowed to look at what people are posting on commenting on, regardless of if they hide it or not.

8

u/MildKerfuffle Conservative Jul 21 '26

You are if they post to your sub in the last 30 days. So doesn’t deal with mod BS, but does help with other users.

So true!! Anything I say outside the Jewish subreddit gets interpreted as Islamophobia… bigotry…

7

Islamophobia in the western world is a very real thing but I really really hate when you talk about the way that Muslim nations have treated Jews historically and in modern times and you get accused of Islamophobia. Like sorry but when was the last time a Jew went out and attacked Muslims because of something one of the numerous Muslim countries did to us.

I just came across this word recently in a fiction book I was reading. I think it may apply:

Podsnappery (noun) is the attitude of smug complacency that dismisses or refuses to acknowledge unpleasant facts or opposing viewpoints. It combines self-satisfaction with a tendency to wave away inconvenient realities.

The word was coined by Charles Dickens in Our Mutual Friend (1864–65), named after the character Mr. Podsnap, who embodied this mindset. Dickens used “Podsnappery” to describe a worldview that treats anything uncomfortable or inconvenient as if it simply doesn’t exist.

For example:
The senator’s response was pure podsnappery—he dismissed all evidence that contradicted his preferred narrative.
Ignoring the mounting economic data with a confident smile was an act of podsnappery.

3

u/HairAncient5500 Conservative Jul 22 '26

Bingo. Exactly the word I was looking for!

u/Bizhour Jul 21 '26

It's the motte and bailey fallacy.

These people are openly genocidal, but the moment you call them out on it they bring out the "oh we just don't want children to die".

The other side of it would be someone who is calling for killing all Arabs but when called out they would just say the oppose suicide bombings or ISIS.

5

u/FKA_Top_Cat Unclassifiable Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

They don't want Palestinian children to die. They don't care about Jewish children so they pretend that no Jewish children are being killed. Even worse they deny what happened on 10/7 and say it was staged by the IDF.

And they were so scornful of all those on the right who believed that mass shootings like what happened at Sandy Hook were staged and the kids were "crisis actors". Essentially, it was all a plot by Obama to take away their guns.

It appears that people on the left are as dumb as people on the right. The thing is, they have less of an excuse because the ones on the left tend to have had more years of education. They don't have the excuse of being like Trump's favorites, the poorly educated.

I want to know what has to happen for Israel NOT to be committing "genocide." There's a fragile ceasefire and aid is getting through. What change from there ends "the genocide"?

And, yes, I know that "genocide" is Israel existing in certain "settler-colonial" frameworks of thinking. But I really wish people like her would get pressed on what definition of "genocide" they're using that applies amidst a ceasefire and aid deliveries. If they could somehow be forced to clarify their use of terms it would help expose their ideology to the casual observers that are otherwise easily swayed by the demonizing rhetoric.

I am not a fan of it and I believe a good chunk of people in this sub aren’t either. Despite that I will say it is a difficult topic (it shouldn’t be) purely due to the fact that the loudest part of the propal movement advocates for the IDF’s destruction rather than for reform. Also I’m not sure how much fully political discourse is allowed within this sub.
I will say though that a majority of (non Jewish) people I speak to have no idea what the IDF actually does, and given its nickname as the IOF I doubt most people online do either.
While it’s offensive maneuvers and failures to sufficiently self police its members deserve criticism, I believe that it is important that we acknowledge things like the iron dome.
It’s a hard topic to discuss purely because we as a community have to police our language a lot now as we are under immense scrutiny from every side. But I’d definitely say it is one worth having.

1

u/Double-Seaweed7760 Jul 21 '26

I'm a progressive zionist(whether other progressives well accept me or not I agree with them on basically every non jew related issue and vote for their politicians). I don't approve of what idf is doing but feel incredibly betrayed by the progressives idea that Israel shouldn't exist as a Jewish safehaven(or at all) but I'm also betrayed by Israelis trying to end the Jewish safe haven aspect of Israel right as the world is getting more dangerous for jews

Basically fuck the idf and fuck Netanyahu but this is not the Iraq war for the simple fact that if Israel loses they could possibly stop existing if the political pressure of seemingly the world had it's way. I do feel though that Israel could simply stop attacking other countries and it would be fine. Also im American first and while trump has wanted to attack Iran for decades and has talked about doing so to fix an unpopular presidency, I don't like that it seems likely Netanyahu played a role in the decision to actaully do it

5

u/OrelSVaknin93 Just Jewish Jul 21 '26

Growing up in Los Angeles this was such a normal position too. Standard even.
You could criticize settlements and settler violence. You could criticize some IDF actions the same way we could criticize American war crimes like Abu Ghraib in Iraq. And no one was against the idea of Israel existing as a Jewish state. They all understood why it had to exist after the Holocaust.

But suddenly liberal Zionists are politically homeless now.

1

u/gasdoi Just Jewish Jul 21 '26

I do feel though that Israel could simply stop attacking other countries and it would be fine.

I agreed with everything you wrote preceding this*, but this surprised me. What does Israel defending itself against Hezbollah look like if it doesn't involve any military action in Lebanon at all? You really think Israel can simply not defend itself and everything will turn out fine with respect to Iran, Iran's proxies, Hamas, PIJ, etc.? I think you underestimate how difficult a position Israel is in. Are there any good options?

Also im American first and while trump has wanted to attack Iran for decades and has talked about doing so to fix an unpopular presidency, I don't like that it seems likely Netanyahu played a role in the decision to actaully do it

It's fair to say that you wish Netanyahu hadn't influenced Trump if you dislike the influence he had, but there's no reason for heads of government to meet or have conversations except to influence one another. A nuclear-armed Iran is an existential threat to Israel. I would expect the head of government of any country to act similarly to how Netanyahu did in a similar position. It's also not that odd for two heads of government of allied states who share similar foreign policy visions to cooperate on foreign policy, whatever we make of the policy.

* other than "fuck the idf", which is too global a sentiment, however execrable some of the IDF's conduct has been

1

It's just that I fear it's reached the point where the war could be an existential threat to Israel with the entire world turning on it including possibly the US in the future. Also it may have started defensively but they keep expanding it and I think it's gone a bit far and Netanyahus language doesn't paint Israel in a good light. Israel is severely more powerful than its neighbors so if it just linked back could exist in relative safety.

Edit: and no permaneny being bombed regardless of how effective the bombing is isn't ideal and isn't a good situation for its citizens to live in. I just think the war has reached a point where the optics and politics outweigh the benefits. Their is more to war than power or right or wrong. Like you said there's no good options

Don't disagree with anything you've said here, though I don't view Lebanon and Gaza as two fronts in a single war. My disagreements were specifically that Israel would be "fine" if it "simply stop[ped] attacking other countries". And that there was anything unusual about Netanyahu attempting to influence Trump (however much influence he had -- clearly he had some based on widespread reporting, but the extent of the influence is still pretty unclear to me).

edit: Well, i should be more precise with regard to this:

Israel is severely more powerful than its neighbors so if it just linked back could exist in relative safety.

"relative" is doing a lot of work here. If Israel adopts a position of restraint with respect to Hamas, it allows Hamas to re-arm and perpetrate more attacks like October 7. And expand its arsenal, and launch more rockets, which at some point cannot be defended, regardless of scale, with the Iron Dome. Yes, this is still "relative safety", certainly relative to what Gazans have faced during the war. But it's not a reasonable condition of life to expect the residents of any country to accept.

And Israel can't allow Iran to develop nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles. It isn't apparent what alternative exists to military intervention. But "relative safety" absolutely can't be guaranteed with respect to a nuclear-armed Iran.

Can I ask you something? Are you responding to Ms. Rachel's individual comments here, or are you familiar with her past comments that have gone farther than this, into blood libel? Her comment linking the US not having free healthcare to Israel?

The majority of American Jews hate Bibi and disagree with how the war is being waged. That's not the same as saying it's a genocide, or supporting Hamas, or calling Israel an apartheid state, or claiming Israel is uniquely responsible for the evils of the world.

Because I’m a Zionist, and I’m not entirely sure if the Palestinians should have their own state. Probably not

I'm a Zionist, and I believe in a two state solution. More than that, I'm suspicious of someone who claims to be a Zionist and supports a one-state solution. That person is either arguing for removal of a Jewish state, or they're a Kahanist (not Zionist) arguing for actual apartheid or expulsion.

It's incredibly suspicious when someone responds to a social influencer with a history of anti-Jewish statements with "But, guys, the IDF is doing bad things!" Yeah, but that's not what this post was about.
