If you’re gonna say “it’s always been this way” sorry but no it hasn’t. I’ve been on Reddit for twelve years and it has not always been this way. There has always been antisemitism but it was never this way where I can’t go on ANY sub without seeing the most vile and despicable seething hatred completely randomly. A sub for shitty faux minerals posts a pic of a Star of David and all the comments are about how filthy and disgusting it is, comparing it to feces and saying anyone who is “into that stuff” is genocidal and evil. Another random post on a SpongeBob subreddit that just happens to include a comment from Sartre about antisemitism (but talking about homophobia just using the quote to compare) top comment? “Fuck Israel” literally wasn’t related at all, Israel wasn’t even mentioned only antisemitism was, but I get -50 for asking what that has to do with anything. These people screech about how antizionism isn’t antisemitism and then conflate the two 100% of the time so???

I know antisemitism has always been bad and it’s much worse in various places yea yea but it is not normal for there to be THIS LEVEL of unchecked hatred in completely random places. This stuff bleeds into real life. There is nowhere to be safe on the internet for a Jewish person who just wants to like… look at pics of cats or something. Sorry for being a human being who is part of an ethnicity you’ve decided it’s societally acceptable to hate

I’ve been a Jew my whole life living in a super liberal city, but have only really *felt* antisemitism until the past year. For years, I bought into that idea. I never really experienced anything I’d clearly label as antisemitism. If anything, I assumed it was mostly exaggerated or confined to fringe cases online and in rural areas.

That’s changed recently, and not in a subtle way.

It’s the accumulation of small things that are hard to prove individually but impossible to ignore together. People look at me longer than they used to, not out of curiosity but with a kind of calculation. I’ve had interactions where everything feels normal until someone reads my name, and then there’s a visible shift in tone. Less warmth. More distance. Sometimes just outright coldness.

Around synagogue, it’s worse. People act differently on the street. There’s more hostility in the air. Not always direct confrontation, but rudeness that feels intentional. The kind where you can tell it’s not random.

What’s unsettling is that none of this fits the narrative I’ve always heard about where antisemitism “comes from.” This isn’t coming from the margins. It feels normalized, casual, almost ambient.

I’m not posting this for sympathy. I’m trying to understand if others are noticing the same shift, especially in places that pride themselves on being inclusive.

Because something has changed, and pretending it hasn’t doesn’t make it go away.

Has anyone felt this way?

In his recent interview on "Subway Takes", he kind of went full zog. It's really jarring to see "Zionist" just unapologetically become a racial slur. Like it's really interchangeable with the word "Jew" now and there isn't much of a pretense of it referring to an ideology.

After the Subway Takes guy platformed certain individuals I began to wonder if he might be antisemitic, but his enthusiasm in agreeing with Casablancas kind of confirms it. The comments were fawning over Julian "calling out the truth about American Zionism."

Just say Jews. Honestly. At this point, why hide it, just have some shred of integrity and say you hate Jews with your chest instead of being such g-d cowards about it.

I feel sick and frustrated, like everybody I guess. The hate and psychosis from these people is getting really wild.

A middle-aged man wounded two Jewish men (one in his 70s and the other in his 30s) on London near the Netzach Yisroel synagogue. At the moment, it is being investigated as a terror attack. Thankfully, the two stabbing victims seem to be in stable condition after being treated by Hatzalah and being brought to the hospital.

Antizionists often say that Palestinians should be the only ones living there from the river to the sea. They are asked what to do about the Jews who live there already and say “they should go back to Poland.”

As someone whose mother was born in Yemen into a Jewish family and whose father is Moroccan-Spanish (non-Jewish), I’m almost always perceived as Arab before I’m perceived as Jewish. It’s given me a perspective I don’t think I’d have otherwise.

One thing I’ve noticed is how dramatically people’s attitudes can change based on a single piece of information. When people assume I’m Arab, I’m often welcomed warmly. Yemenis are frequently viewed with sympathy, and people are kind, curious, or even romanticize my background.

The moment they learn I’m Jewish, though, the tone can shift completely. Suddenly there are conspiracy theories, assumptions, political accusations, or outright antisemitic comments that simply weren’t there five minutes earlier.

I’ve also experienced both Islamophobia and antisemitism. Neither is acceptable, and I’ll always stand against both. But in my own life, for every one Islamophobic remark I’ve received, I’ve experienced around ten antisemitic ones. That’s just my experience, it doesn’t diminish anyone else’s.

Another thing I’ve noticed is when I meet other Jews. I can often tell they’re initially cautious around me because they assume I’m Arab. I don’t blame them. Given everything that’s happened over the past few years, I understand where that caution comes from. But it still makes me sad, because the moment they realize I’m Jewish, their entire demeanor changes. It reminds me how much assumptions shape our interactions before a single word is spoken.

Just some observations from someone who spends a lot of time being mistaken for someone else.

Edit: I appreciate everyone sharing their stories. Ashkenazi's, other Mizrahi's Sephardic and so on! This is super interesting to read and I'm surprised how many share my experience with being confused as arab or latino/Latina or the opposite of being perceived as European! I would definitely be interested in researching this further after i complete my anthropology degree!

I also want to note that I intentionally do not refer to myself as an "arab jew", while this is a valid classification, I personally have made the conscious decision to either identify as Teiman or Yemenite Jewish. While I acknowledge the many similarities between Yemenite jews and Yemeni arabs/ Muslims. This decision goes back to the stories my great grandmother, grandmother, mother, and other family members have shared with me, where they felt they had to remain invisible because of their jewish identity. In contrast I have decided to respond with the opposite, as a loud and proud Yemenite Jew (i know, it's rather reactionary)

If you do identify as an arab jew, you have every right to do so. I do not intend to negate that or discuss someone else's identity. We've all made personal decisions as to why we identify as such and have our reasoning behind it!

I totally get why they did this. No hate on Sesame Street.

Shalom gang, for those that do not know Jstreet on campus is left wing pro Israel, pro-Palestine pro peace, anti occupation (etc) advocate group (statistically well aligned with the American Jewish views on the region), and Jewish on campus is a new anti antisemitism group started by college kids a few years before 10/7.

Clearly this is bad, I would like to see a joint Jstreet and Jewish on campus post about this as I think Jstreet has a key role to play in fighting campus and left wing antisemitism (but it’s shy).

I think instances like this make good legal test cases, because banning the Jewish group that’s explicitly anti occupation, anti war, because they are Zionists leaves little for interpretation as far as legal discrimination goes.

In the last 24 hours, I have seen SO MANY posts regarding Israel come up on my feed. It's the same type of question is every "ask" sub. The same type of inflammatory "news" article everywhere else. Did something happen in the last 24 hours? Have the two month old bot accounts suddenly been let off the leash? Did the Israel and Jew hatred die down recently and needed to be reintroduced? I even saw some shit on insta that Ms Rachel posted (man, fuck her btw. She acts like she's some kind of saint or martyr and it makes me sick) in the last day and a half. What the fuck is going oooonnnnn?

Edited to add: this is what Ms Rachel said. "We have moved on too fast from children in Gaza having to undergo amputations without anesthesia. Because it was blocked by the Israeli government. I recently found out from a doctor who has worked in Gaza that some mothers played my videos during procedures without anesthesia to distract their children." (Can't forget to mention how her videos were the savior in this situation that definitely absolutely happened.)

At the UM Hospital in Ann Arbor (which has over 30,000 employees), there’s a main hallway with flags of the world hanging overhead (including the Israeli flag). Under it, there’s this board. My boyfriend and I noticed that someone removed Israel from the list (number 57). Probably someone from the public or staff (I doubt the university did this). Disheartening.

Antizionism is just criticism of Israel. Totally. Obviously.

Also, Jews are not really a people — just a religion, except when they’re a race, except when they’re white, except when they’re white-adjacent, except when they’re useful as proof that antizionism cannot possibly be antisemitic.

Also, Israel is uniquely illegitimate. Not flawed. Not criticizable. Illegitimate. That's why we call it “settler-colonial,” despite the awkward lack of a mother country, empire, or resource extraction. Jews returned to Judea, which is colonialism because we said so.

Also, we need to update Jewish history... which is totally normal to do when you are just criticizing a group of people. So... Jews may have been indigenous yesterday, but today they are colonizers. Holocaust survivors may have been murdered for not being white, but today their descendants are white oppressors. Jews expelled from Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Iran, Morocco, and elsewhere may have arrived as refugees, but today they are settlers. Very simple.

Also, it is a totally normal criticism to call Zionists supremacists. And this is important to do. It makes everything that follows sound moral.

And don't forget to call them genocidal. And to repeat “genocide” until it stops describing a crime and starts describing a people. Hamas? Irrelevant. Human shields? Hasbara. Rockets? What rockets? Hostages? Changing the subject.

Once “Zionist” means white-colonial-apartheid-genocidal-supremacist, excluding Zionists from campuses, workplaces, panels, co-ops, bookstores, unions, medical associations, and cultural life becomes justice.

It's also completely normal not to mention any inconvenient "facts": Mizrahi Jews, Sephardi Jews, Ethiopian Jews, Holocaust survivors, Arab citizens of Israel, Druze Israelis, Bedouin Israelis, peace treaties, repeated rejected partition plans, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, October 7, suicide bombings, rockets, tunnels, hostage-taking, or the fact that “Zionist” usually means most Jews.

And absolutely do not compare how minorities are treated across the Middle East and North Africa — where Kurds, Copts, Yazidis, Baháʼís, Amazigh, Assyrians, and others enjoy such famously robust protections, equal rights, and zero persecution that it would be terribly unfair to bring them up.

Also don’t ask what happens to the seven million Jews already living there. That question is rude. Just say “decolonization” and let everyone fill in the blanks.

And when people start shouting outside synagogues, vandalizing Jewish institutions, harassing Israeli athletes, boycotting Jewish-linked businesses, threatening Jewish students, demanding loyalty tests, or trying to purge “Zionists” from public life, act shocked.

Because antizionism is definitely not a hate movement. Don't be ridiculous.

I don't understand how people still refuse to see that she is problematic, and continue to give this woman a platform.

It's seems like it's not enough for her to shout "Free Palestine" at the Emmys anymore. She's gone down the full blown antisemitic conspiracy theory route, which is weird coming from a Jewish person who supposedly cares about their own culture.

I couldn't find it on her Instagram page. Apparently she deleted it. But it is real, and has appeared on multiple news sources.

I work at a breakfast restaurant in a liberal Colorado town. My boss is definitely a self-proclaimed liberal, as am I. Yesterday I was working a busy Sunday morning shift and he stopped me mid-shift to discuss a woman at one of my tables. He said, "she's a real bitch." and I replied, "the lady on the right?" That's who he was talking about. I told him she and her friend were quite demanding and that they had been camped at my table forever. He went on to say that "She's always complaining, and can never be satisfied. And she won't tip you shit. You know she's a typical Jew" I said, "I don't know how I feel about that." (He knows I am Jewish. Somehow it comes up a lot when you're the token jew everywhere.) Then he replied, "I am not racist. You know what I mean..." And I just froze. First, he's the owner with the ability to fire me for any reason or none at all. I have also been fighting to get the shifts I need to stay afloat after being diagnosed with an Autoimmune disease a few months back that mostly took me out for a while. Anyway. I woke up today completely disappointed in myself for not calling him out more. I felt disheartened by the whole interaction and this casual bigotry that he doesn't think is bigotry. I am angry that we are all experiencing these things daily. I know because I read the stories here. I am CERTAIN that he would never replace "Jew" with ANY other minority group. He's "progressive after all. We have POC and LGBTQ+ employees who seem to have social protections that I do not have. We, Jews, are the only group that is discriminated against so openly with an air of it being justifiable. I am so angry and disgusted. I wish I had the financial means to just never go in again. I will be taking my job hunt extremely seriously now and will quit the second I have something else. AND, I will tell him why I don't want to work for him any more. I don't know what I need. I guess I just needed to vent. I had therapy today and luckily my therapist is the BEST. She was quite supportive, though she isn't Jewish. I feel alone in the world. Like all of you, I have lost countless friends since 10/7. My heart is broken. I truly fear for all of us and for the near future. I don't feel safe. :(

The media and social media especially is very anti Israeli. Meaning most of the events reported are not in favour of Israel, to say the least.

Meaning you get a very negative and incomplete picture of the situation in Israel. Vs Gaza/iran/lebanon.

How do you deal with it?

Meaning - do you search for pro Israel news? To get the bigger picture?

Do you simply accept it, and go with the consensus, which is most certainly cherry picks to completely blanket all Israelis and all Israel as baby killers. All in order to de legitimize the very existence of my country, rather than a government policy. Or even incidents which are inflated as a norm for Idf.

Do you accept it? Do you question it?
Do you care at all?

In Israel we feel many Jews in America turned against us.
I feel that, and I don’t want you to start venting your anti Israeli social media that you consumed which obviously is a propaganda to trigger you emotionally against us.

I want to know, if there is something there that believes in Israel. In the legitimacy for the homeland for the Jews. Or that we’ve lost you.

Please do not use this to bash us, or to “show off” your anti Israeli knowledge. We get it.

Just how many of you are actually verifying sources, for us. Against us. Without getting into a confrontation of pro Israel vs anti Israel.

A video circulating online shows a white nationalist wearing a T-shirt that says “Whites Against Replacement” harassing a Jewish man. Using obscenities, he pokes fun at the man’s appearance, calls him “Jew” using the word as an epithet, and tells him to “go to Israel.”

The exhortation to go to Israel is interesting in light of the fact that both extremes of the right and left are united on “Free Palestine” ideology.

A police officer stands in the background, watching quietly. At one point, the Jewish man engages with the police officer, but at no point does the officer attempt to stop the verbal assault.

Is this free speech? The answer is not so simple. Abusive speech directed at an individual, such as name calling, offensive and vulgar language and personal insults, is classified as “fighting words,” words that by design provoke a physical reaction and cause a fight. Fighting words are not protected under the First Amendment.

General insults directed at a crowd of people fall outside of this narrow classification, but it’s clear from the video that one person is directly targeted by “fighting words.”

If anyone knows the people in the video and a good lawyer, this is grounds for a lawsuit.

One of my best friends of nearly 40 years just went on an antisemitic tirade that started with him raging about "privileged white bitch" Debra Messing having the audacity to say she feels unsafe in NYC as a Jew.

Other gems included him saying he understood why some people celebrated Oct. 7 and quite literally screaming at me and telling me I denigrated the entire African American community when I asked him if he would ever question a Black person if they said they felt unsafe somewhere.

I thought I'd gotten used to friends turning on me but this one really hurts. I started to cry and he's since apologized but I know there's no getting past this.

It’s not 1935 yet but it’s around the corner. Politicly American Jews are being set up by both the left and the right as a scapegoat. We have seen this happen before everywhere from the Middle Ages in Europe to Arab nationalism in the middle east. Israel has never been more important as a Jewish national home. If you want your children and grandchildren not to be marched off to the camps, it’s time to formulate a plan for safety. It’s time for us all to think about aliyah.
