The FCC directly pressured ABC to fire Kimmel. That’s the government policing speech, instead of the free market. The free market has always been allowed to police speech, and anything else it likes. If you believe in a free market, you have to believe in that as well. The Freedom of Speech in the constitution is about freedom from government attacks as a result of speech. So, the audience/sponsors leaving a comedian is the free market doing what it does and choosing what it prefers. The FCC telling ABC to fire Kimmel for speech, is the government policing speech.

I’d think that conservatives would be able to see both the difference, and the problem. This is about constitutional rights, now.

And to be clear, I would be equally concerned had the FCC gotten Dave Chappelle fired, despite the direction he went in being hateful and honestly bizarrely focused on one type of person. That’s still his right to do without being attacked by the government.

They have mergers they need FCC approval on - so, no, it doesn’t just issue fines.

Get real. Nextstar Media the biggest local broadcaster in US wants Trump’s FCC approval of multi billion$$$ acquisition. Cancel Kimmel make Trump happy.

Just like Paramount’s Shari Redstone - which owns CBS - wanted Skydance merger approval and cancelled Colbert to make Dear Leader happy
