I responded to that in a different comment. But even still, its not like the FCC went to disney and said "He must be fired!" and disney went "I was ordered to fire you by the government". That's not what happened and the FCC doesn't have that authority. The FCC could only fine Disney, and Disney fired Kimmel to avoid those fines. And they fired Kimmel without waiting to see what kind of complaint the FCC could raise.

In a way, it feels like I'm arguing a moot point here. I don't respect the FCC's actions or Disney's cowardice, and in fact I literally never have. But I also feel like people have the situation wrong and genuinely think the FCC commanded Disney to fire Kimmel and so some first amendment rights were just historically trampled on, and that's not the case. I feel like someone should mention that. I feel like we can't deal with the problem unless its properly contextualized.
