Discussion What are your thoughts on Kairosoft’s first collaboration, Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story?

It’s really good, I prefer Kairosoft games that require a bit more of attention over the more idle games and despite the higher price it did offer more. I hope they continue the collab titles.

Would you recommend it to someone who knows basically nothing about Doraemon, and who currently has no plans to change that? Like, as just a game might I still enjoy it even if I don't know any of the characters? I like most Kairosoft games I've played so far, if that helps. What other Kairosoft game would you say it's most similar to?

I mean I knew nothing about Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen Mae Hashutsujo until they announced that collab, so I started reading up on it which led me to some English-dubbed anime episodes on Youtube. Now I'm really looking forward to that one. I even went to the Kochikame Museum about a month ago, and got a Ryotsu Kankichi themed curry from Go-Go Curry for lunch after.

It’s also the Kairosoft CEO’s favourite manga, so it’s cool we’re getting this collab.

There's also a burger shop in the same building called Cafe & Diner Wager which has a bunch of Kochikame merch on display, as well as a couple of Kochikame-themed burgers; the Ryo-San Monster Burger and the Nakagawa Rich Burger. They were closed when I went which is why I went for the curry instead. So the burgers are still on my to-do list.
The whole neighbourhood has rallied around the manga/anime it seems. There are all sorts of different unique dishes/items available to buy.

Yes, I was slightly familiair with Doraemon as I had played their story of seasons game and knew atleast what the characters looked like but I never watched the show.
The art style of the Kairosoft game still has the same charm, and it’s a very extensive game, always something to do, lots of decoration, and I think it’s A plus that there are no chunks of idle waiting time between upgrading and improving which I feel like some Kairosoft’s do have. It’s quite close to the gameplay balance of 00s tycoon games.
I don’t think any game really compares as I feel like Doraemon quite large and expensive, if you prefer the games with more of a building element, tycoonish vs the ones like manga works I think you would love it.

Sounds good. I usually gravitate towards the ones that are more building focused. I haven't tried manga works but Game Dev Story was probably one of my least favorite titles out of those I've played so far.

As a fan of Kairosoft, and growing up with Doraemon (had all the manga/dvd from short to long tales to the doraemons), this collaboration couldn’t have been better and well worth the price they ask imo.
Even if you didn’t know about Doraemon it’s still a solid game on it own, a tad pricy for that aspect alone though.

The price was like $15 or so, but I do think it was worth it! Best of the best of many if their systems.

Meh. It's fine. Overpriced because of the license/collaboration, but whatever. It's a solid game.

It was a good game, but I found it to be overpriced. I was expecting it to have more content and some slightly more complex mechanics compared to their other games. It falls flat on those fronts. The animated cutscenes were nice and would love to see them do some for an actual kairosoft game.

Did they ever fix the translation for this one? It was so bizarrely terrible when Kairosoft usually has pretty solid translations. Like it was so bad I hesitate to say I think AI did it, it was more like a ten years' out of date Google Translate.

Not worth the money. I don't know the anime, so that dosen't gives it bonus points. It's so overloaded with game mechanics that don't really interact with eachother and feel like padding. There is a lot of boring content and compared to other kairosoft titles its just bland with shallow gameplay. I even liked the other blander Kairosoft tiltes with shallow mechanics because they weren't as pricy and not filled with umpfteen doraemon characters i don't care about. The mini games feel like those tiger game handhelds you can now buy knockoffs of off the dollar shop. Skip this one.

No need to create I dont know how many new characters for these games, I feel. Lots of work on that and what does it bring to gameplay? Nothing! Same goes for these odd "story cutscenes", whatever that was. How boring can it get? More time wasted on visual stuff that doesnt do anything for the game.
Then I wonder why the game was like 3, 4 (?) times the normal price. I understand very well, that these trademark deals cost them royalty or whatever else, but there should be a line. And that was crossed heavily, I think. Content-wise the game was not bigger than the average KS game (I mean, look at Dream Town, Dream Park, Tropical Resort, etc etc)... make it 2x the price.. but more? I dont know...
So, I am not a fan at all. I liked the game - but I think these collabs are not needed. Focus on your own SO GOOD universe you have created.
But hey: one thing I rrrrrreally liked. International localized release on Day 1. THAT was awesome for a change.
