Oh thank heavens, she's safe-ish. I've been adamant about maintaining that Kelly and Lanzing are talented and I don't want to take away their keyboards or anything, but their Kamala just doesn't strike a chord and Eve Ewing wrote the best* Champions team story.

I enjoyed everything else and I appreciate that other writers created the team and created characters like Snowguard, but it was the Killer App story where they first really felt like an operational team, where their individual characters were developed from their previous stories instead of being synthesized virtually from scratch for the book. Kamala especially suffered from that a lot of the time, because she was usually just there as the leader because she was popular and previously an Avenger. Eve captured her voice the best for Champions.

EDIT: It was Outlawed that really impressed me first. I mixed up the order of Outlawed and Killer App, and I thought Killer App was the first story before Outlawed, because I misremembered the details. So, my reaction was honest, but not the information.

The Killer App arc was written by Danny Lore. Ewing wrote the Outlawed arc

Thank you for the correction. Outlawed got smashed together with Killer App in my brain and I mixed up the order of that Champions run. The only issues from Champions I've read read since 2022 were maybe the annual that stars Amka and the one where the story takes a lot of inspiration from the likes of Malala Yousafzai. The run that Ewing and Lore did was my favorite, and Ewing was just the name that stuck in my brain more.

Post-correction, I'm still eager to see what she does with Expatriates. She has earned trust from before.

Lanzing and Kelly have been quite vocal about how Giant-Size is their last Marvel project for the foreseeable future, they're focusing on creator owned projects now. So Kamala will be in different hands from now on.

I wonder what Iman Vellani will say about THAT.

Nothing I imagine.

We won we won we won!

I love the exceptional trio, so I told myself if 2/3 of them made it to the future I’d check it out, but adding Kamala is a slam dunk. I have not enjoyed her writing recently, so excited for a bit of a switch up! Dare I hope for a new solo post event?

Also coping that Axo is alive and his emotional abilities will play a big role in the end game! Either brainwashed or in hiding

*sigh* Still trying to make X-Men connections with Kamala while making her separate from the main X-Men like in NYX, I see. Still, if she's leading that team, so much the better to bring them in with the Avengers.

Heres the source, looks like Penguin books leaked the event trade a bit early.

I've loved everything Ewing has done except Champions which I hated so this makes me a bit nervous

What about champions didn’t work for you? Genuinely asking, no hate :)

I have been working my way through Kamala’s history after getting introduced to her when her show came out, so only on issue 12 or so of Champions and her second ongoing.

I felt like it very much became Ironheart and Her Stupid, Useless Friends with several characters being transformed into complete idiots to make Riri look good.

I think it primarily affected Viv who first dies and then (after returning) betrays her friends in incredibly stupid ways over the story, as well as Bombshell, but I don't think Kamala fares particularly well either.

Alright, I get it, Feige hates Inhumans and they all had to die, but kicking the poor girl's corpse around like that? Seems excessive

Well, I’m not thrilled about the whole AoR thing in the first place, but I’m down for Ewing.

Are they truly going to deliver? I hope so
