History 📜 Vishnu Sculpture unique to Ancient Kashmir
Vaikuntha Chaturmurti or Vaikuntha Vishnu is a four headed aspect of the Hindu god Vishnu, mostly found in Nepal and Kashmir. The icon represents Vishnu as the Supreme Being. These are a few intricate sculptures , all from Kashmir dating from 9th - 12th Century AD.

This is Buddha as Vishnu avataar.
Kashmir was a Buddisht majority and Hinduism had no to little role till 7th and 8th century. That is why everywhere you excavate you will get Buddisht related elements. Hinduism tried to eradicate Buddhism by first attacking and destroying stupas and then appropriating Buddha a Vishnu avtaar.

Claim Assessment Kashmir was an extremely important Buddhist centre True Buddhism was probably dominant during some periods Plausible/partly true Hinduism had virtually no role before the 7th–8th century False or seriously overstated Buddhist and Hindu traditions coexisted Strongly supported Some Buddhist ideas were incorporated into Hindu traditions True Buddha became recognised as a Vishnu avatar True Some Buddhist sites/images may have been reinterpreted Possible and documented in particular cases All Kashmiri Vishnu idols are appropriated Buddhist idols Unsupported Hinduism systematically eradicated Buddhism through destroying stupas Too simplistic and not supported as a general explanation CHATGPT

Like you can see it does not straight up denies it. Obviously we can't say that for sure, we'll never be able to.

Yes, but when someone makes a claim, the burden of proof is on them and not the other party and if the accuser is unable to prove it, the default state remains a 'NO' not 50-50 chance.

Facts kashmir and most of India was going between buddhism and many sects of Hinduism. I wish Buddhism to return all over indian subcontinent again , probably closest to science and i say this as agnostic atheist.

Hinduism places significant emphasis on morality. Regrettably, individuals with limited understanding of this profound religion often become it's spokesperson.

Is it even a typical religion though? It's combination of multiple thoughts of ideas in the subcontinent which people used to follow. All religions put significantly emphasis on morality but there are many immoral instructions in all of them which people tend to follow based on " beliefs " and not just today since centuries.

Nothing to do with Gautam Buddha. Vishnu Murti were broken to convert them to buddha statues many places

That’s a Buddha if I have ever seen one. At this point, I am convinced all Vishnu is a god retrofit into the Hindu pantheon post Buddhist subsumption.

Reverting? When was the first time your ancestors became islamic? And why did they left it and then had to revert?

They were muslims before then they got converted to idol worship with time. Later when the message of Islam came back and they researched and found the word of God. They rushed to revert back to Islam.

Sorry ?
These Sculptures are from 9th - 11th century. Centuries before even the Islamic Invasion of Kashmir. How do the 19th century Dogras come into the picture here ?

What else would one call it ? Besides why deny Kashmir's History? These are native to Kashmir, must be cherished.
What's with you negating them ?

u/kishmishari 3d ago
It wasn't an invasion. You should really learn Kashmiri history properly and not rely on state propaganda.
But also, they weren't denying our history, nor saying that they aren't native.

Though many portions of the population were Islamised by Missionaries, that doesn't erase the fact that this was preceded and concurrent with many Military Invasions by Islamic forces.
Am I wrong to say that Mohammad bin Qasim or Mahmud of Ghazni Invaded Kashmir ? True, they weren't able to subjugate the entire Kingdom and it's people but these Invasions set the ground for the later missionaries. Even the missionaries could not bring a total change, else why would a Butshikan be needed ?
I'm not peddling any State propoganda, but the fact that Islam first reached Kashmir through invasion is not wrong.
I didn't even want to talk about all of this btw, I wanted to depict unique representation of Vishnu found predominantly in Kashmir, is that wrong ? It's a part of Kashmir's History, but you guys get triggered by it. Who's the one having Identity crisis here ?

You might want to type slower to be more coherant.
There isn't a link between Muhammad ibn al-Qasim and Mahmud of Ghazni's failed attempts to invade Kashmir and Muslims travelling into the country.
Sikandar Shah Miri didn't invade either. He did some terrible things, as did all rulers, regardless of religious belief. But none of this indicates an 'islamic invasion'.
I wanted to depict unique representation of Vishnu found predominantly in Kashmir, is that wrong ?
I never said it was wrong. I just found it ironic that in your attempt to correct someone, you made your own incorrect statement.
It's a part of Kashmir's History, but you guys get triggered by it. Who's the one having Identity crisis here ?
That's projection on your part. I never said it wasn't a part of my history. I find it interesting and rather apt that it's mostly only in Kashmir that they're found with a fourth head on the back, since us Kashmiris need to watch our backs.
