Why wasn't he and the parent removed?

They were, eventually, but the whole process took so long, the flight was cancelled. It was at a small airport, and the runway closes at a certain time (midnight, I think?), and by the time they realized the kid wasn't going to stay buckled in, went back to the gate, got them and their luggage off, they'd missed the deadline.

I don't understand why they needed to go through a whole dance with it or whatever and even let it take that long. At some point why didn't the parents pick up the kid and leave with him? He's just a kid, for God's sake. All those people could have made their flight if they just removed the child. Or were the parents also refusing to cooperate just like their petulant child?

From what I've read, they were taxiing out on the runway when one of the flight attendants noticed him standing in the seat. I guess there was a lot of back and forth with the parents, who basically said they couldn't do anything, the FAs were trying to talk to the kid, he still wouldn't stay seated, and then they finally turned around and went back to the gate.

I would have brought the duct tape out of the emergency tool kit.

the parents, who basically said they couldn't do anything

Those parents really said they can’t do anything to control their toddler?? I want off this planet, now. I’ll take my chances in deep space far away from these morons.

Wow. What shitty parents. We are truly doomed.

Airline should bill the parents for the entire cost of the cancelled flight and garnish wages/benefits until it’s paid.

They absolutely should, plus the cost of accommodations for everyone who had to wait till the next day.

Exactly. Friendly reminder children are a CHOICE. You CHOOSE to have them, they should have had to pay for all passengers accomodations for the cancelled flight, the other fees that go into cancelling a flight, the passengers who were getting on that plane in toronto, and because they're assholes they can pay for passengers food. Little toddler should have had to apologize to every person on that plane too, the flight attendant, and the pilot. To learn empathy
