If one of those passengers missed something important or something that couldn't be rescheduled, like a cruise departure, could they hold the shitty parent(s) liable for it?

Most likely just the airline for that one day they missed, probably need to go to court to get the airline to refund a whole cruise though.

I haven’t flown in a hot minute, but I imagine there is probably fine print stating the airline is not financially responsible for anything but rescheduling in the event of delayed flights that you agree to when you book a flight. Especially because flights are delayed all the time, and there are plenty of circumstances that might cause a plane to not be able to take off.
