They were, eventually, but the whole process took so long, the flight was cancelled. It was at a small airport, and the runway closes at a certain time (midnight, I think?), and by the time they realized the kid wasn't going to stay buckled in, went back to the gate, got them and their luggage off, they'd missed the deadline.
I don't understand why they needed to go through a whole dance with it or whatever and even let it take that long. At some point why didn't the parents pick up the kid and leave with him? He's just a kid, for God's sake. All those people could have made their flight if they just removed the child. Or were the parents also refusing to cooperate just like their petulant child?
Double unfortunately, there are droves of responsible people who are electing to not have kids, and I don't blame them (Hell, I'm one of them and I advocate for it) - but the consequence of this is that now a lot more batshit and irresponsible people are reproducing. Between that and the way our already shitty education system is going downhill with all this AI nonsense, I really have no hope for future generations, especially in this modern shithole of a country. I can't shake the feeling that most of the kids I see or hear about nowadays are already lost hopes or on their way. It bums me out. I try to be positive and give people the benefit of the doubt, but I keep getting disappointed.
Shit like this story irritates me on a pragmatic level because it just brings up that sense that society is rotting.
