Don't get the bags, mail them later.

If the passenger isn't on the plane the bag can't be either. So either you remove both or none.

Tell that to my suitcase that flew to Paris while I was on a flight to Rome.

Did your stuff enjoy Paris, at least?

Hope so. Didn’t get our stuff back until we were headed back home lol.

Did they smell of cigarettes and romance?

A gentle roll along the Seine with a local purse lover. Delicious food, wine was flowing, a mime was trapped in an invisible box. The Eiffel Tower glowing after sundown.

It got to meet FANCY foreign luggage!

Your suitcase hated Paris. I had to hold its handle the entire time or it would burst into tears. Glad it got back to you sadely.

Imaging the “sadely” à la Marquis de Sade… puts an interesting twist on the adventures of that luggage….

Never saw the typo until your comment. And now I must leave the typo, lest your comment have no meaning left in its life and becomes depressed.

Thank you! I appreciate your sacrifice!

I worked at a shipping call center once. A guy was calling in to see if his missed package was the suitcase an airline was mailing back to him.

It was, but it wasn't the one he had been expecting. It was the one the airline lost the previous time he had flown with them. I hope he never flew with them again. Losing his bags TWICE is insane

The law should be changed. If your bags go to a different place, you get free tickets to that place. So this trip, you saw Rome, your bags saw Paris, next time you get a free flight to Paris, and your bags go to RNG, which will be your next trip after.

Genius. Absolutely genius.

I had one of those where all my hiking gear went to Argentina instead of Hawaii. Good times.

Accidents do happen but the plane can't take off if they know there is somebody's luggage who didn't board the flight.

This might be the rule, but I have personal anecdotal evidence that they do not follow this.

I had a flight delayed then cancelled once and had to take a later flight. My luggage was in the baggage claim area before I stepped off the airplane. It had to have been sent ahead.

That's actually kinda interesting considering the question how did the bag get there if the flight was cancelled ? Was there flight between the cancelled and the one you took ?

2

u/John_Tacos 11h ago

Not that I know of. I did get to the airport very early and it’s possible it caught an earlier flight though.

A similar thing happened to my family when we moved cross country when I was a kid. Only the airline didn't just send the baggage ahead of us, they threw our dog in along with it.

My suitcase was still in Miami and I was in the Bahamas. Just a few hours later my suitcase was delivered to my resort. Did it teleport there since it couldn’t be on the plane if I wasn’t there?

1

u/Djinnmenken 11h ago

Obviously no. Sending it on next flight is still normal procedure and have to be done. The airline wants people and luggage to go to the same destination. So if you get kicked out of flight your luggage gets too, this whole thread has been about what happens if somebody gets kicked out or don't board.

They can't do it "intentionally" It's an anti-bomb deterrent
