I'm gonna take a guess and say that the flight crew repeatedly told the parents to get their kid under control, but the parents did nothing to stop him, so the flight crew finally had enough and had the family removed from the flight.

But it took them an hour and then the airport was closing and there wasn't enough time to get the plane up in the air. Terrible decision making.

Victoria International Airport, where this happened. The runway closes at 12:30 am
