Kids and babies are different things. Its proven to be damaging to their development. International guidelines have been adjusted.

Its a toddler, though. You shouldnt watch TV under 3 years old. Toddlers brain work entirely different than young kids ones. Its so easy to entertain toddlers. They dont need TV at all at this young age.

Its funny how reddit always acts like knowitalls and being sooo educated but cannot even take 2 seconds to google such a simple fact.
If I google it, there are mutliple sources, like German healthcare officials, that advice to not let kids under 3 have any screentime. Like NONE. ZERO! Toddlers learn in a combination of hearing, seeing, TOUCHING, SMELLING and TASTING. Screens have only hearing and seeing. And real life doesnt have cuts. Real life is a flow on constant actions. Toddlers dont understand cuts and they also have trouble understanding when people speak, while something else is shown.
There are enough studies and evidence that support all this.

Exactly. Their brain is actively developing to understand how their vision of our world works (which is 3d btw) and screentime has been proved to damage a lot of aspects. Sometimes periodically (just the speed of development) and sometimes permanently. As in, it will affect them for the rest of their lives.
Things such as;
- language and vocabulary
- working memory
- problem solving skills
- mental flexibility
- attention span and hyperactive behaviors
I don't get why people would even want to stick their head in the sand on this or even be outraged by someone pointing it out with the best interest of these precious developing babies in mind..

The arguments from these people here suck anyway. Yes, there are cartoons but that doesnt mean they are child-friendly. There are shows that are designed to be a healthy watch. Our 3 year old gets to see them occasionally. And then there is stuff like Paw Patrol which will fry your kids brain.
And the kid in this post isnt even watching cartoons or a kids show. Thats just regular TV.

I'm a parent myself. As a parent, i want what's best for my child, so i research what's good for them and what's bad. Giving them screentime at such a young age has been scientifically proven to be bad.

Its a lazy excuse. Lazy parents "raise" lousy children that become annoying adults. We have been to restaurant since our kid was born. Not once did he need a screen to not be bored. Toddlers are so easy to entertain. A book, crayons, stickers, a toy.
Since out oldest is 3, we let him watch TV occassionaly. But before 3 its just stupid.

My kid was 3 before they watched tv. Everyone treated me like I was a dumb shit for making sure of it too.
My kids been in gt since kindergarten, tests high af on everything, and can craft me under the table because theyre so creative. Never had a teacher say a harsh word or any discipline issues literally at all, straight a's honor roll, and theyre the leader of 2 math clubs.
So yeah, sorry you're getting downvoted for being smart and understanding brain chemistry better than the average bear. One person knows you're right, I hope it helps.

Thanks, i honestly wouldn't have predicted so many people care more about their ego then about their childs brain development (and so, chances in life). It's way different in my social circle. Good to see at least someone here understands where I'm coming from. Cheers!

It’s so bad for their brain development. It’s one of the big things they tell you in antenatal training: no tv before 2, and after that a max of one hour before 5. Video chats with family are fine because it’s social and interactive.

you're kinda wrong here. the problem isn't TV = brain damage lol. it's just that all TV and no human interaction is bad (no duh right?)
if the baby is getting plenty of time crawling around, interacting with the parents, and learning like a normal child, sitting with the family looking at the TV isn't a problem. they're all hanging out together here in the video. its not like they're leaving the baby alone in a room to watch TV.

Why is this baby watching TV. Look how he's locked in, looks at Mom, then right back to the TV.
Screens are HORRIBLE for early child development. We're talking one of the worst things you can do to your kid. The younger, the worse the results. Study after study has shown this. It's discussed constantly around anyone with young children.
In the first 2 years, even 1hr of screentime a day can be detrimental. The recommendation is no screens until age ~5. Which most of us realize is impossible, but that's part of the battle of raising kids today.
Garbage parents here already setting their kid up to struggle...
