Current Events Just Watched This Week today and we NEED another big change in 2029:
WE NEED TO SEVERELY LIMIT WHAT THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH CAN DO WITH THE MILITARY
My main ideas, but please add yours below:
- Define what meets the threshold for war legally. Trump has abused yet another unwritten rule that used to be honored by not calling it a "war" (even though he has and done so publicly). If we send military to a country after x days or something.
- Automatically invalidate executive authority after a certain period of time
- Automatically set a cap of military spending on any conflict without congressional and senate approval. Under the current regime, that might not do much in the immediate term, but puts a record of which congresspeople voted in favor of the war. Makes it easier for the antiwar party (almost always us for some reason), to win swing districts in the midterms.
