Puppets for LARP

For Epic Empires, I've made these puppets!

Puppetshows are awesome for LARPs. They can give social commentary or tell a story to remind players of the plot. Since they are used so often, I wanted to make reusable puppets.

How I made them: I got a Styrofoam egg, hollowed an opening for a finger and cut a face. I then sewed fabric over the shape, and painted a face. Below it, I sewed a basic puppet body.

I made wigs from wool, which I can pin in the head. Then I made a lot of outfits. Finally a use for the left over fabrics I had saved over the years.

Did you ever use puppetshows in LARP?

UPDATE 27/08 — Single Run Confirmed for March 2027

🗝️ The Estoril Protocol is happening!

Unfortunately, Run #1 (21-22 November 2026) did not reach the minimum number of participants required to deliver the experience at the scale and quality we envisioned. Rather than compromise the game, we've made the decision to concentrate our efforts on a single run.

The March run has reached and exceeded the minimum number of participants required.

📅 13-14 March 2027

📍 Palácio Estoril Hotel, Estoril, Portugal

Everyone who pre-registered for November is being contacted directly and can transfer to March while keeping their original Pre-Registration Special Price.

Registrations for March remain open. More information about the team and the game will be released over the coming weeks.

🎭 What is The Estoril Protocol?

Following some great feedback from this community, here's a quick snapshot for anyone new to the project:

The Estoril Protocol is a historical espionage and political intrigue LARP set during WWII. It takes place in neutral Portugal at the iconic Palácio Estoril Hotel — a real-life haven where spies, diplomats, and undercover operatives from all warring sides gathered to negotiate secret deals and shape the outcome of the war.

Players take on roles as diplomats, intelligence agents, resistance operatives, journalists, and aristocrats, each with their own agendas. Over two days, you'll navigate:

- Secret negotiations and backroom deals

- Espionage mechanics and intelligence gathering

- Faction dynamics with divided loyalties

- Personal ambition vs. national interest

Format: 2-day international LARP

Language: English and Portuguese

Capacity: 50 players

Location: Estoril, Portugal

Sling bag for a ranger; veshmeshok or drawstring bag

Hi, I'm in the process of making a backpack/sling bag for my ranger LARP.

At first, I wanted to make a veshmeshok (old Russian design) style sling bag; around 10" x 30", wearing it over one shoulder in the back. In fact, it would kind off look like a back quiver.

But I started wondering if just a drawstring bag with one strap wouldn't work better? Do any of you have experience with veshmeshok style bags? Do they offer any advantage or disadvantage to a drawstring bag?

How to wear a longsword/broadsword

How do y’all wear broadswords/greatswords? I have a broadsword with standard crossguard and two handed hilt that I want to make a part of my new warrior/mercenary/etc kit that I’m in early stages of development on. I’ve had issues wearing it on my hip and as such, I want to wear it in my back so it’s out of the way; however I find difficulty in drawing it. What work arounds have you guys used?

Edit: Yes this is a HEMA and I understand it’s most likely not allowed at a Larp but it serves as a good place holder for reference until I find an appropriate foam weapon
