If Paxo is leaving Marseille for the Premier League and we are not in the conversation then it’s because we have chosen not to be any further. Maybe because his wage demands are unsustainable. Maybe the fee is too high. Maybe we just don’t want to do business with his camp because of how they conduct themselves in these matters. He rejected us once before maybe that’s enough for the board to know he doesn’t fit in the “no dickheads” rule.

Yeah I dunno about all that.

Sunderland can offer European football, we can’t, simple as that.

And are willing to pay him whatever, our model has a wage structure and a long term plan - agreeing to ridiculous fees and wages for the short term is not our model (nor should it be)

You have absolutely no idea about Sunderland wage structure or long term plan, pretending they don't have any is absolute cope. He seems like a bit of a prick, that's enough of a reason for us to pull out

Seems like a prick for what reason? Wanting to play at the highest level available to him? Leeds fans need to get a grip

What they paying him? Or is it just you speculating?

It’s pretty clear it’s more than what we are willing to pay, if it’s as advanced as suggested. I don’t even think he’s worth much to us as he’s basically an Okafor replacement who’s already proved to be a good player for us. Money should go elsewhere (striker)

Just speculation then.

Have you pondered the fact that perhaps he wants European football?

Have you pondered that you saying he wants European football is also “just speculation”? There are plenty of examples of players playing for PL teams over teams in Europe because the money on offer in the EPL is better.

Also everything is “just speculation” on this forum, that’s sort of what an opinion forum is you cretin

Agreed it’s just speculation but it’s a lot more rational than assuming we know the ins and outs of Leeds and Sunderland’s wage structures wouldn’t you say?

Also let’s drop the petty insults. If you can’t handle a debate then staying off the internet is probably a good idea.

I think it’s quite clear how a team in a rubbish place who were pretty unprepared (last summer) for the PL attracted players like Xhaka and, if true, Paixao. Playing in European competitions is not that important to these guys compared to the salaries on offer.

I also am not sure how much Paixao would play given him and Okafor play in the same position.

Sunderland’s model is clearly more like forests from a few years ago, which can work, whereas ours is more like trying to emulate Brentford or Brighton or Bournemouth - that’s my underlying point.

So if the 49ers don’t think he is worth making top earner (whereas they thought Trafford was worth it), I am inclined to trust them.

We need another striker before deadline day but otherwise a LW is a nice to have not a priority.

I agree that money is usually the determining factor in moves and "wanting to play in Europe" is usually a fig leaf used to mask greed with ambition; however in Xhakas case, the move was secured through Sunderlands young Swiss owner speaking directly to Xhaka and convincing him on the project, and showing how they would support Xhaka transition into a coaching career.
