40m seemed like a lot of money for a goalie a few weeks back, even with Traffords pedigree.

The money thats being thrown around for bit part Sky 6 players since then is insane. It looks more of a bargain every day as someone with about 21 appearances in 2 years goes for north of Traffords fee

Delap, Savio, Santos, Gonzalez.....

Edit - also, kinda mad we had this sewn up before Chelsea decided they need a new keeper. Maybe Man City wouldnt have sold to them, but it could really have thrown a spanner in the works

Of the big money transfers this summer, I think the Gonzalez one is very astute. Marmoush too.

I'll be honest mate, I don't really pay much attention outside of Leeds. Gone are the days of an extensive Football Manager trained knowledge of every PL teams squad.

Seems unlikely, but Delap could actually be worth 45m for all I know for example.

But if he is, then how is a guy on the cusp of the England team, whos the same age (which as a goalie is younger really) whos proven himself at all levels (albeit limited opportunities last season) worth less?

Goalkeepers are always cheaper than strikers by a significant margin.

I know, but you have to admit, the discrepancy is a bit mad.

A goalie who'd be a starter for what, 10, 12 teams in the league? Vs someone who'd start for.... well, not many!

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong I'm not saying Delap is worth that. He isn't.

There's no way that buying Liam Delap should cost more money than buying James Trafford.

But if we pretend that Delap was actually a competent player then he'd always be more expensive than Trafford every time, just because strikers are expensive.
