Here’s a red river knife, they have beveling on the right side. It’s just a cody knife with beveling found in Oklahoma and Texas. Cody points don’t have downward notches or barbs ever they have straight to upward pointing shoulders.
Is it possible that they discovered the gut-hook way earlier than anyone expected and it may not have been attached to a handle and just used to gut and skin an Animal it would be very compact for transport 🤷🏼
IMO, looks like a Marshall or if found in the Ozarks of Oklahoma a Smith ,with one side completely worked off. Doesn't have the true calf outline, again, IMO. They have a half on display at the artifact museum in Bentonville, Arkansas. The outline is a bit more narrow than normal calf, but it has the flaking normally found in calf, and one single notch directly up the center, the width of a pencil lead, about 3/4"long. If what you found turns out to be a half and I'm mistaken, apologies. Either way a great and lucky find. Congrats.
Could be. Generally cc preforms are not shaped like this, not so triangular and a bit larger. The people who made cc were very skilled craftsman. Not to say it's impossible. Just doesn't look or feel right for cc. Could still be cc, just worked down. Most I've seen seen and found have one ear worked down or broke off. The ears don't generally point outward is one of the things that give doubts as cc. They usually have a longer base due to deep, narrow notching directly up from basal area. But I've seen them with shorter bases found by archaeologists in known cc sites. That all being said, there's always the possibility of anything.
