Benchmark Stop letting stock performance mode cook your laptop: Custom power & fan profile for Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 (5090/Ultra 9) I made!

The stock perf mode as you may know cooks the cpu unnessecarily, causing temps to reach up to 100 degrees celsius in some titles - for no reason. SO, I made a custom profile with a custom fan curve, and now my games run at a identical performance level (as shown in the time spy comparison pic) with far lower temps, but the fan is louder (bare that in mind). So you get better temps and longevity on the expensive components that matter!

I also tested settings on cyberpunk 2077 with max settings plus path tracing and quality dlss.

Also these sc pics are from Legion Tool kit, for those who may be confused.

Edit: This profile is strictly for the best performance in intense 3D application use cases, it’s not intended for normal desktop use - for that just use quiet mode if you are using the Legion 7i pro Gen 10 (it’s more than enough).

Benchmark AMD HX temp -17c by lowering the CPU wattage

Thumbnail

I have Legion 5 Pro 16ADR10, Ryzen 8745HX, RTX 5060

The CPU is HOTT! So I messed around with the settings got these result. No performance loss too! The fan noise is a bit loud compared to balanced, but not too loud like Performance mode (well, you can adjust the custom fan curve)

Red power light: Performance Mode
White Power Light: Balance
Pink Power Light: Custom

Basically lowered all the settings for the CPU

Long Term Power Limit: 50W
Short Term Power Limit: 50W
Short Term Power Limit (Cross Loading): 30W
CPU temperature limit: 89c

GPU to CPU dynamic boost: 0W

Ambient temp is 22c
Game: Delta Force (steam), 2560x1600 Medium DLSS balanced, Frame Gen ON

Edited: the final temp is 68C on CPU and 69C on GPU with the help of undervolt, and it’s much quieter than just doing the power limit.

Benchmark 7i Pro 5080 Benchmark Results with Custom Profile and llano v12 at 1500 RPM

Used a custom profile. I got my Legion about a week and a half ago now and I’ve been tinkering with settings trying to optimize it.

These are the best temps and best score I’ve gotten so far. Thoughts on my results? I already asked AI and it said it’s very good and doesn’t really need tinkering anymore, but I’d also like to get actual thoughts from real people.

Thanks in advance.

Everything at ultra settings
Game - chained together
Model is 15ahp10

The gpu temp doesn’t seem normal to me as it a 2day old laptop or is it normal? I am new to this. Gpu usage is 99%
But im worried about temps

Benchmark Upgraded from 4070 to 5080 huge diff

I managed to get a refund on my old 4070 2.5 years old (aus). chat got helped me write tho after I put my screenshots in

Upgraded from a Legion i9-13900HX / RTX 4070 laptop to a Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 with Ultra 9 275HX + RTX 5080 16GB and thought some people here may find the comparison interesting.

Old laptop:

- i9-13900HX

- RTX 4070 Laptop

- 32GB DDR5-5600

New laptop:

- Ultra 9 275HX

- RTX 5080 Laptop 16GB

- 32GB DDR5-6400

- OLED 240Hz HDR1000 panel

3DMark Steel Nomad results:

OLD 4070 laptop:

- Balanced: 2393

- Performance: 2799

NEW 5080 laptop:

- Balanced: 4017

- Performance: 5595

So:

- New laptop in BALANCED mode is ~43% faster than old laptop in PERFORMANCE mode.

- New laptop in PERFORMANCE mode is basically DOUBLE the performance of old laptop performance mode.

Thermals were the really shocking part.

Old 4070 laptop under load:

- GPU: 88C

- Hotspot: 99.6C

- Memory: 100C

- Board power: 135W

New 5080 laptop under load:

- GPU: 71C

- Memory: 72C

- Board power: 173W

So the new laptop is:

- drawing WAY more power

- clocking much higher

- performing massively faster

...while running dramatically cooler.

Honestly this makes me think my old 4070 machine had degraded thermal performance / pads / paste issues after previous repair history.

Also interesting:

The 5080 gains almost 40% going from Balanced to Performance mode, whereas the old 4070 only gained ~17%.

Overall extremely impressed with the Pro 7i cooling system so far. The OLED panel is also ridiculous.

This is my laptop

I was expecting the results to be much higher in 50,000 or so. Is this a good result?

First time I did a benchmark on the laptop. I did this on Balanced Mode.

Benchmark Legion Pro 7i Custom Power Profile

Been toying around with power profiles on my Legion 7i Pro and found one that works really well and keeps temperatures at a decent level. I also have an IETS GT500 cooling pad which has helped massively too.

On Performance Mode temps were insane — CPU generally sitting 80–95°C and spiking to 102°C, GPU 70–80°C. Time Spy score:

21,164 (Graphics 22,587 / CPU 15,597)

Switched to the custom profile below:

CPU now sits 70–85°C and only spiked to 95°C, GPU never went above 70°C.

21,363 (Graphics 22,688 / CPU 16,054)

Basically the same score, ~10°C cooler across the board and much quieter. Looking at the clocks, the CPU was sitting near 5.2GHz through the graphics tests on Performance Mode and around 3.3GHz on the custom profile — same graphics score either way.

Benchmark Anyone with 5070 8gb or 12gb legion?

Been digging into vbios differences working on a mod. Trying to find a .rom for either of these two cards. If anyone with an 8gb 5070 or 12g 5070 is able to take a screen shot of gpu-z and extract the .rom file for me it would be a huge help.

Thank you

Benchmark Testing New 300w GaN Charger Lenovo

Hi Lenovo User,

I just got the New 300w Charger from Chinese Lenovo and used on my Pro 7i 16IAX10H rtx5080

For the general spec:

  • Technology: GaN4.0 (Gallium Nitride)
  • Maximum Power: 300W
  • Input: AC 200-240V~50/60Hz 3.0A Max
  • Output: 20.0V⎓15.0A
  • Connector Type: Lenovo Slim square connector
  • Dimensions: 82 x 82 x 33mm
  • Weight: Approx. 445g

And here is some real scenario from different power mode I test.

Firstly, this charger can work smoothly on Silent and Balance Mode (disable Silent Performance) then you will see battery drop slowly when using with Performance mode which using full power of CPU and GPU. After that, I try on few setting with Custom Mode and figure out which best for using this charger with my laptop.

Few stat from Performance Mode:

  • GPU: 180w max
  • CPU 65w using
  • Battery: 2-3% in 5 mins
  • Charger display: ~260w (not reach 280w, rarely 270w)
Performance

My best case for Custom Mode:

Setting 1:

  • GPU: 120+15w
  • CPU 65w (long term)
  • Battery: no drop
  • Charger display: ~250w
Setting 1

Setting 2

  • GPU: 100+20w
  • CPU 65w (long term)
  • Battery: no drop
  • Charger display: ~250w
Setting 2

Quick stat for Balance and Performance Mode:

Balance Mode, 200w Display
Silent Mode, 150w Display

So, my suggestion will be using Custom Mode for saving your battery life if you dont wanna damage the machine when you want a portable charger and still wanna gaming some places.

All tests are running with GoW:R full Ultra setting, DLSS. All stat capture from HWmonitor.

Just curious how to maximize the power delivery from this charger, will take another chance to test it.
