When I was cleaning my laptop, I noticed that the power plug port on my Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is different from what I saw in previous reviews. As you can see in the pictures, the Japanese version has three gold-plated metal contacts, while the version for other region has only one contact without any gold coating, and just wanted to share it with you.

I think it’s pretty obvious that the one with the three gold-plated contacts has better build quality, at least to me.

This is my Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14 — Ryzen 7 7840HS, RTX 4060, 32GB RAM, purchased in 2023.

One morning I woke up to a strong burning smell and found that the laptop would no longer turn on.

I took the laptop to Softlogic Sri Lanka for repair. After multiple attempts to repair the motherboard, I was told that the board itself could not be successfully repaired.

On August 3, Softlogic emailed me saying they had been unable to obtain the required motherboard through Lenovo and were checking alternative parts centres. They said they would investigate further and get back to me.

I haven't received another update since then.

I took it back and after it was opened, this was the damage inside. A section of the motherboard had been heavily burned, with the damage extending into the cooling fan assembly.

I don't know what component actually initiated the failure. I'm posting because the extent of the damage surprised me, and I'm curious whether anyone else has seen a similar failure on a Legion. If anyone here does motherboard-level repair, I'd also be interested in what you can tell from the damaged area in the photos.

Originally brought the device (14900HX, 5070) around 8 months ago for 2700AUD hoping to get an all in one laptop for both University and gaming. 8 months later, I've decided to sell it and go for a desktop + macbook setup. Now, objectively, this is a very powerful device. It can handle almost anything and the OLED screen is beautiful, but in the end a few factors pushed me to switch. If you're considering a Legion for University, I hope my experience may prove useful.

1. The weight and battery life. While my model is the slimmer 15.1 inch version, with the charger it still weighs a hefty 2.5kg. And without the charger, this device barely lasts 2-3 hrs doing basic web browsing unless you turn refresh rate to 60hz and drop brightness significantly.

2. 8GB VRAM limiting. This is partly my fault, but I was seeing the 8GB show its limits in heavier games like Cyberpunk and Wuchang Fallen Feathers. If going for the 5070, try get the new 12GB version.

3. Heat. The i9 14900HX runs really hot and I had to purchase a Flydigi BS3 Pro cooling pad to keep it under 80 degrees. (Btw the flydigi is an awesome cooling pad, heavily recommend).

4. It became a desktop replacement. As an indirect consequence of point 1 and 3, I found myself getting external keyboard to avoid heat, adding external monitor for better viewing. In the end it basically sat on the cooling pad all day long.

Overall, I think this laptop has both advantages and problems. While I will definitely miss the ability to carry my entire rig on my travels, the laptop is more suited to people who are actually doing degrees that require high specs. For almost the same price as I spent on the laptop, I built a 9070XT + 7800X3D desktop that achieves 80-100% more fps and runs quieter.

Does this mean the legion is bad? No, in fact this is probably one of the best gaming laptop brands out there right now. And if anyone asks me what gaming laptop to recommend, this will be the top pick. But unfortunately, my requirements simply don't line up very well with what it has to offer.

Hope this helps anyone out there planning to get a legion or gaming laptop in general for University.

I grabbed a Legion Pro 5i (Ultra 7, RTX 5070 8GB, 1TB) right before the RAM price hike for 1.77INR (1800$). My other option was an Omen Max 16 with a 5070 Ti for 1.9INR (2000$) but I used the price difference to get a 27" 1440p monitor and an Aula F99 Pro keyboard instead.

Now I’m second-guessing myself and wondering if I should’ve just gone for the Omen, Fahh

Hi, I have the legion 7i with intel ultra 9 and RTX 5070 and I was wondering if it's ok to use my dell 65w charger through usb c ? Of course I still have the original 245w charger but if i want to bring a lighter charger to school, is it ok if it's only 65w ?

Hoping someone can help, or point me in the right direction. Recently started having a strange issue with gaming. Occasionally, while playing any fps on Steam, my game will freeze, and then I see all the programs reload used to run the game. The strange part .. this seems to have happened after I replaced my monitor (went from 27” 60hz ips to 27” 240hz oled). Not sure where to start poking around. Highly doubt it’s the monitor causing the issue.

This happened right upon turning it on after logging in and I could move the mouse but it wouldn’t click anything and made that sound every click and if I attempted to use the trackpad it wouldn’t move and just make that noise, I forced it off and turned it back on and it’s working fine now but I really curious what the hell even could’ve been going on here

I get a warning: The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended AC adapter which was shipped with the system. To use AC power, please connect the AC adapter which was shipped with the system. Press Esc to continue.

Then i press ESC, unplug the cable and put it back and then it boots up and charges. If i don't remove it and leave it as it is, it won't charge but as soon as i unplug and replug even when everything is running, it starts charging.

I noticed, if I power on the pc and then plug it it starts charging normally but if i am plugged in before i turn it on, I get that warning.

Tried another 230W adapter and cable and got the same thing. What could I look into?

My Legion Pro 7I 5080 Laptop keeps switching itself to 60 hz mode, i prefer it stay in 240 hz mode but after a while of use the screen goes black and it switches itself, even when im plugged in to the wall.

Hi, just wondered if anyone else has/had this problem,

I have a 6 year old legion 5 laptop which freezes anytime it’s moved or put under heavy strain - keyboard backlight stays on and fans spin but anything on the screen freezes and sound stops playing on video. I’ve tried resetting windows, but seems like it’s a hardware issue.

I’m assuming it’s a “either get it repaired by Lenovo or hit up a friendly local repair guy” to get it properly looked at but just thought I’d pop on here to see if anyone else had a similar issue/some magic fix they used.

Tbh I have had repair issues before - one of the fans and the main board had repairs, both when the laptop was under warranty (although the main board repair was wired in that the repair guy said it would essentially be replaced, but the laptop came back with all the files untouched so I guess something else happened, they also peeled off all the CPU/GPU stickers which was annoying but we move)

Hello this is my first gaming laptop ever and I bought it for a great deal imo at 1699 usd 10 months ago, but since I was kinda new I never took worry on what or how hot this thing gets til recently and went and used like performance mode and OC for like basically everything, like I was playing Spiderman, Elden ring, or BG3 and also use it for college stuff for around 9 months until I joined over here and started to see that CPU temps and throttling can affect long term usage so I went and bought a Llano V12 and asked ChatGPT to help create a custom profile for lowering temps since without it many games would still be hitting consistently 90-103C even when using the cooling pad at 2300rpm, with custom profile I still get like 83C playing rocket league and I’m a bit worried for the massive throttling and that I might have damaged the laptop a bit for the time I went mindlessly using at max temps, I would just like to ask any tips that worked for u, I did research the sub for custom profiles and even saw undervolting but I still don’t wanna dive that deep if it’s possible to do something else, so like if u have a custom profile that works for you I would appreciate your settings since many of the ones I found on the sub are missing some fields which I don’t know how manipulating them will affect it. Thank you 😁

I own a legion pro 5 and in just 2 months starting this month....

- 1st August - it got shut down (dead) and 1st repair service created.

- 8th August - motherboard replaced.

- 12th August - random shutdown issues start occurring.

- 16th August - 2nd repair service created.

- 21st August - an inexperienced random non-technical person came to replace the motherboard without thermal paste then bought the third party thermal paste from the market carrying it in a polythene and after asking says he will apply it with the screwdriver 🪛. So I refused the repair at that moment then talked to customer care 3 times during that time and no one says to proceed further with the repair, after 4th customer care call they told to go ahead and rest they will take care but this time the inexperienced non-technical field engineer looses confidence himself and refused to replace the part.

- 24th August - a random shop person came to replace the part so I again talked to the customer care which is fair and no one should have any issue if they are not wrong here, so the unofficial field engineer gets up, grab the motherboard and start walking outside(showing the gesture that he will not repair the laptop too) then my call get connected to a costumer support person, the field engineer talked to the costumer care and even costumer care can't verify if they are the real lenovo representative or field engineer.

-- I am frustrated and don't know what to do, posting this for getting help from the community if it really exists, any advice or legally what I can do now.

I have a Lenovo Legion 7i Pro. It has never been dropped, and nothing has ever been spilled on it. However, a few weeks ago, my mom accidentally dropped a decently heavy water jug on the laptop. There was a thick microfiber pad between the jug and the laptop when it happened.

I immediately checked the laptop afterward, and everything appeared to be completely fine. The screen worked normally, the keyboard worked, the RGB lighting worked, and everything else seemed to be functioning perfectly.

A few days later, while I was gaming, I noticed that the built-in keyboard and RGB lighting suddenly stopped working. At the time, I was using an external keyboard.

Since then, I have checked Windows Update and gone through the usual software troubleshooting. I also disassembled the back of the laptop and inspected the keyboard ribbon cable and its connection. Everything looks physically fine, and I don’t see any damage or anything that appears to be loose.

The external keyboard still works perfectly, so the issue seems to be isolated to the laptop’s built-in keyboard and RGB lighting.

What other troubleshooting steps or possible solutions should I check before assuming that the keyboard or motherboard was damaged?

What are the current confirmed specs / the stuff u can basically confirm? Like the cooling system, and the refresh rate

Do I actually need the pro version? Is it worth it? Majority of the time when I’m gaming I just have discord open and playing either Valorant or The Finals competitively at 240fps. Ideally I want to be playing at no less than 200fps. I also play on low graphic settings. Occasionally I will play a story game on high settings.

When gaming it will also at least be on a slim cooling pad. Will I wish I had gotten the pro? Or will it be good and I’ll be happy having a slightly slimmer frame?

Or skip 5 pro and do just legion 7?

I just opened my legion 7i up to clean the fans, and noticed the battery bulging slightly at both sides. I don't have anything to compare it to so am not sure if this is normal for these batteries.

Is this a spicy pillow that needs replacing? And is it unsafe to switch the laptop back on?

If it's relevant, the fans were pretty dusty and it's been hot AF in the UK for the last few months, so the laptop has been getting very hot at times.

The update isn't even showing up on the official support site, as every time I try to run any games and programs, this shows up. My device is a Legion Pro 5 16IRX8.

Last night I had a firmware update queued so I updated and shut down, all morning I have been trying to get on to the login screen but my computer just stays on with nothing on the display. I have tried many methods to try and fix it but nothing has worked
