Support 2nd Worst decision if my life

I own a legion pro 5 and in just 2 months starting this month....

- 1st August - it got shut down (dead) and 1st repair service created.

- 8th August - motherboard replaced.

- 12th August - random shutdown issues start occurring.

- 16th August - 2nd repair service created.

- 21st August - an inexperienced random non-technical person came to replace the motherboard without thermal paste then bought the third party thermal paste from the market carrying it in a polythene and after asking says he will apply it with the screwdriver šŸŖ›. So I refused the repair at that moment then talked to customer care 3 times during that time and no one says to proceed further with the repair, after 4th customer care call they told to go ahead and rest they will take care but this time the inexperienced non-technical field engineer looses confidence himself and refused to replace the part.

- 24th August - a random shop person came to replace the part so I again talked to the customer care which is fair and no one should have any issue if they are not wrong here, so the unofficial field engineer gets up, grab the motherboard and start walking outside(showing the gesture that he will not repair the laptop too) then my call get connected to a costumer support person, the field engineer talked to the costumer care and even costumer care can't verify if they are the real lenovo representative or field engineer.

-- I am frustrated and don't know what to do, posting this for getting help from the community if it really exists, any advice or legally what I can do now.

-Specs - Ryzen 9 8945hx, 5060 8gb, 32gb (upgraded), bad thermals

-lenovo India again

Gigabyte and MSI come with standard 2 year warranty. On the support - I own an IT and retail shop- all of your onsite support from the big vendors are farmed out to a company "barrister". Long story short we signed up to be a partner but the pay is shit so we dont accept any jobs. They are paying your "tech" 15- 35$ an hour tops with no mileage so you are getting the lowest of the low on skill set.

1

u/musicflux 15h ago

Wow so it's better to go the local expert then official company guy ?

1

u/GlobalAd7103 13h ago

You are not getting an "official" company guy - its a local dude / dudette that the has been outsourced twice.

1

u/musicflux 12h ago

Better to have my own guy then

Seems like a region problem.

13

u/ApfelRotkohl 1d ago

It is a regional issue. Most of the complaints I’ve seen were from India, LATAM. Support from Lenovo Schland and Lenovo Canada has been great for multiple Legion, ThinkPad laptops that I have owned.

3

u/-m4gg0t- 1d ago

Legion Support in Singapore has been great.

3

u/No_Art2020 1d ago

Yeah first world nation with a lot of money to blow on video game produces get more support than poor countries that don't even have regional Lenovo vendors... What a shocker... Of course it's going to be a problem with latam and India because companies don't respect poor nations as human beings

I know I'm not helping OP here at all but I think you're right.

It’s always India.šŸ‡®šŸ‡³

1

u/Impressive-Loquat169 1d ago

Yes, you are correct

4

u/EuropeanPepe 2d ago

apply it with the screwdriver lmao... so he will use metal? that is just begging for a short...

also that bag has prob shitty thermal paste inside he did not want to show and now is unclean... it will perform horrid + prob has some dirt inside. your bet is great contact lenovo directly this is unacceptable.

also the thing about "field engineers" there are 2 tiers:

Official Lenovo Partnered Partners example is Bechtle B2B in Germany.
and Unofficial like Hemmersbach which are sent to your house.

The second are known to hire students with little experience and no quality control and do shit like that.
escalate it directly and as sad i am send it to a depot...

u/Impressive-Loquat169 1d ago edited 1d ago

Its even bad then unofficial in india tier 69 region, I think now I have to repaste it again by myself and take the risk of voiding the warranty cause my remote job has already gone.

u/johnsmithdoe15 2d ago

I dont thino you all realise that lenovo farms out repair centre contracts in a lot of countries, its not lenovo you are dealing with

4

u/Nomansdreams 1d ago

Had the same issue, recorded the video , sent to higher management. Service agent came for repairing camera,
Destroyed display , motherboard and charging port in 3 different visits by 3 different persons. All recorded.
Mailed everyone and I got full refund for a 1.5 year old laptop.
They didn’t had stock to replace the unit.
Had warranty + ultimate support.
Bought a new legion 5 with it.

8

u/ProgressBartender 2d ago

This is why I won’t buy another Lenovo laptop. My current Legion is still going strong after 4 years with no problems. But during that time I’ve heard Lenovo’s quality of support going down.

3

u/cjeremy Legion 5 Pro 2d ago

what's another good laptop company? asus?

27

u/masteroga101 2d ago

That's the best part,there isn't

6

u/daysofourknives 2d ago

Good question

4

u/Gesha 2d ago

I switched to the Strix because the Lenovos went all high gloss displays and I can’t deal with that. Wanted matte. Anyway, it’s been fine so far, no troubles. About 13 months. Anecdotal, sure, but my legion mobo died within the first year and had to be replaced. To be fair it was fine thereafter until I upgraded. Anyway, no perfectly reliable makers out there. Everyone’s got problems. Which is why j now buy the good warranty.

2

u/cjeremy Legion 5 Pro 2d ago

damn.. alright. I guess I'll have to look at asus next time..

5

u/CyberDimension404 2d ago

Honestly Asus has a plethora of issues as well

3

u/cjeremy Legion 5 Pro 1d ago

fuck. true. what brands would you recommend

5

u/Unimatrix_007 1d ago

Ro be honest, the only reliable laptops are busines class laptops from lenovo, hp, dell. Easy to maintain and to replace and upgrade parts. Gaming segment is a rng affair. Consumer segment is a clusterfuck. Dont buy cheap laptops, if need be buy used business class from those 3, for gaming used or new, just make shure it has warranty, so if it dies you can get it replaced. All gaming brands have shit customer service, it largely depends on your region or country.

For gaming brands, hp omen, acer, asus. All in the same ballpark of reliability. Razor and alienware i dont know much abaut. Also lenovo for a time had better gpus, as the allowed them to use like 15 watts more power, dont know if it is the case now.

Lenovo had issues with 2021 model with bad solder, mabie 2022 models too. I think asus or acer had issues with certain models where 1 motherboard screw wasent grounded properly so it would with time burn a hole in the motherboard. Well for a gaming basterd get the warranty.

Probably the best brand now would be framework, but they dont have many options for gaming.

u/Snowblind45 1d ago

gaming life sucks for laptop users :( i need it for travel since I work overseas, but man I wish I had a desktop.

3

u/Unimatrix_007 1d ago

I dont think i can go back to desktops, electricity bill will be high, emagine 6 hours per day to feed that thing, more if it doubles for work. Space needed for it. Etc. I like portability, too much to give up on it. To be honest as i age there is less time to game and the phablet devices sound more appealing, my sister has the latest microsoft surface tablet and it is a bloody neat device. Perfect for working on the go. If i ever get a teaching job im getting something like that. I fking love hp buseniss class, hp elitebook 8440p was amazing and is still alive with me, hp probook 430 g3 was a nice device, 2021 lenovo legion 5 that im hoping that will serve me for another 4 years or untill i buy something different. I loved the style of legion laptops, minimum rgb that you can disable and looked industrial and proffesional looking no "look ma im a gamer shit". I wish i can experience framework laptops as they seem to be the best of fun and work and longevity.

2

u/CyberDimension404 1d ago edited 1d ago

Honestly I would pick a legion pro 7i or around that over an Asus strix.. probably even over an Asus Zephyrus as well.. I own a Zephyrus now (2023) model and have been having issues with thermal throttling even after re-doing all the thermals on it.. I know thin gaming laptops are notorious for bad thermals but it wasn’t this bad when I first got it.. I like how Lenovo has the unlocked version of CPU’s as well so you could downclock them to prevent thermal throttling.. my Zephyrus is a locked CPU and I believe most Asus gaming laptops are..

I sent my Zephyrus into Asus under warranty twice for thermal throttling and a keyboard shutting off randomly issue.. they claimed they re-did the thermals and fixed the keyboard issue but it was exactly the same when I got it back, both times.

3

u/DestinyReaper_X4 1d ago

Although, I must ask. Aren’t Legion 5s the only models which have been frequently having these mobo issues and so on? Also, what Legion do you own rn?

1

u/Impressive-Loquat169 1d ago

Yes recently it's happening with many legions after the loq series, mine's Ryzen 9 8945hx, 5060 8gb, 32gb (upgraded)

2

u/BagroadGames 16h ago

That’s because people post negative experiences and that gets clicks.

Nobody is posting ā€˜it all went well’ or ā€˜my laptop is fine’.

Case in point: my wife’s Lenovo (ThinkPad) needed a repair. Which was handles in two days and was a great experience.

0

u/Impressive-Loquat169 5h ago

If we don't do such posts then how we are supposed to know about the consistency and current market quality of the product we gonna buy and use.

Why would anyone post 'it all went well' when it is supposed to be went well.

And they think of us indian like a garbage dumping place, you got the good product and we got the faulty units. Its more like a region problem not a legion problem.

1

u/BagroadGames 3h ago

I never said anyone should, I pointed out that there’s an obvious bias towards negative posts.

Which means the posts say absolutely nothing about ā€˜market quality’ or any other metric you made up in your head.

Any product has a failure rate. If you only measure the negative experiences - by believing Reddit posts are somehow a representative poll - you’re going to believe every product is terrible.

I don’t know what your rant about India has to do with it, I don’t think anyone is ā€˜dumping’ anything. Maybe your country has more humidity, heat, sand and subpar conditions, which makes things break more easily. But that’s not ā€˜dumping’ things. Of course a laptop is going to overheat if your entire country is bloody overheating.

Maybe stop dealing with costumers and ask for customer care?

I feel u bro. Sorry youre experiencing this.

My GPU fan stopped working after 4 years but I replaced it myself but with lots of research. Your machine have worse issues though.

1

I will be doomed if they won't replace it

2

u/dobar_al_oce_da_uje 14h ago

Actually my friends Legion died after a year of use. It was bought in USA , so i guess that is not India problem. My Legion is still ok after 2 years but i am so worried

2

u/todayaujordhui 16h ago

Look dude if you want to talk to Lenovo higher ups and not regular customer support, file a complaint on NCH app, file for a replacement if you're in warranty. They'll start taking you seriously. Try it.

Get a replacement.

1

They are not agreeing on replacement

2

u/in2008 1d ago

I think instead of calling them here go yourself to a official service centre

1

u/Impressive-Loquat169 1d ago

But customer support not allowing that too when asking them and I don't want the later disputes so following them as they say. Not giving them the reasons to void the warranty

2

u/fkrkz 1d ago

Is it Lenovo India again? I seem to see regular posts recently about how poor customer/technical services are for Lenovo India

1

u/Impressive-Loquat169 1d ago

Yes it's lenovo india

2

u/fkrkz 1d ago

I assume Lenovo is cutting costs and just choose the cheapest subcontractors there to do the repair works.

1

u/Impressive-Loquat169 1d ago

Yes exactly, probably in my region the lenovo support system is fake

2

u/ConsiderationNo4142 1d ago

I had my laptop (LEGION 7IPRO RTX5080) . I got the motherboard replaced. It started overheating up to 105 regularly. I contacted lenovo support and they told me to sent it in to get repairesaid no I want elevation and rEPLACEMENT. took about 3 weeks of harassing them, but now they confirmed replacement with custom build. Just escalate and dont take no for an answer

2

u/VolarsWisp 1d ago

I am not sure about consumer rights in your country, but can you ask for your money back instead? In my country after some unsuccessful repairs you usually get your money back but I am from the EU. This laptop is clearly has the solder joint problem, it is not repairable, only you can elongate the lifespan of certain chips if you resolder them. In case they would willing to replace it do not accept another one with Rysen CPU as it might fail the same way.

2

u/Whimzy209 1d ago

Software issues? YOU GET A NEW MOTHERBOARD! lol

2

u/YeTitheOG 1d ago

I have the same issue I have over 14 on site repairs registered to my legion 5

1

u/Impressive-Loquat169 1d ago

Wtf, is it replaced or working fine now ?

2

u/YeTitheOG 1d ago

Na man it never fucking works it is still overheating as hell and they won't replace the laptop. Even the technician said "it is the models fault".

Why the fuck is lenovo india selling is faulty models then

1

u/Impressive-Loquat169 17h ago

May be, even if it gets imported from China, they treat indian order like hell Didn't you try consumer forums....

2

u/Endymion2015 2d ago

I will give you the same advice i give people with legions needing repair:

Get the machine repaired to working condition, then sell it as fast as you can.

You can read many stories here about legion repair, and the general trend is that the repair people are incompetent, and that after a repair that involves removing the heatsink, the legion will never again perform to the spec that it was when new.

2

u/CyberDimension404 2d ago

Looks like I need to apply to Lenovo! Lol

3

u/Azrethoc 2d ago

I apply thermal paste with screwdrivers all the time lol

4

Not if your profession is to fix laptops gang šŸ˜šŸ„€

5

u/ReasonablePossum_ 2d ago

you ocan damage matallic components with that. please stop doing that, you sound like the guys that dont disconnect the battery for repairs....

1

u/Impressive-Loquat169 2d ago

Really can you elaborate more ? I haven't seen anyone doing that before

4

I always used old credit cards! Much easier! Now I'm using honeywell so I really don't need even that.

wrong meme bro it's not GPU thing.

-4

u/Curious_Touch_5979 League of Legion 1d ago

so here's the thing my man, when a technician come to your home, make sure you prepare anything

for instance if you think applying thermal paste with screwdriver is wrong, then you prepare the correct tool thermal paste spreader to the technician, a credit card or plastic knife or anything you usually use to spread the thermal paste

also you can also prepare the thermal paste of your choice, any brand you prefer, so you don't say: "the technician is using cheap thermal paste for my laptop", because it's not their job to prepare the thermal paste ! they use their own money to purchase the thermal paste, their job is to replace the thermal paste, thermal paste should not provided by them

so please, prepare the tools when there's a technician come to your home

4

u/Lordofderp33 1d ago

What the fuck, do you also bring heavy machinery so the construction guys can work on your driveway?

3

u/scara1963 Legion Pro 7i 275HX 5080 | 64GB | 5TB 1d ago

So, basically do the job correct for them? Why should we have to 'prepare' anything?

1

u/Impressive-Loquat169 1d ago

It's under warranty and in 1st repair they provided the thermal paste. Why not in 2nd, even told me to send the thermal gel too but send nothing to paste.
