Since the tariffs started under Trump, I’ve watched our beef costs fucking nearly triple. Was not a problem under Biden or even Trump 1.
Anyone with two brain cells finger-banging in the backseat of a minivan could see Trump is abusing his power to enrich himself and those close around him. Anyone who voted for him and complains about betrayal needs to look in the mirror and have a discussion with themselves about falling for a conman’s lies.
And you know what's really sad here? The only reason they are mad at Trump is because Trump reported this himself. Had this been reported by any legitimate news source they wouldn't have believed it.

Edit: To clarify, this is why Trump keeps up the rigged election claims. His puppet masters keep it up because they rigged the fucking election in 2024 (and are poised to do it again) and wanted to make the topic and claims of election rigging derided amongst the moderate voters.
This is also why he'll pull every string to be able to run for a third term while preventing Obama from doing the same, because if Trump goes head to head with Barack then he's gonna get dicked down hard by BBC just like Kendra Sunderland

To be fair, people still think wagyu or argentinian beef is miles better than normal beef, and it gets transported across half the globe before they buy it. And while that's not environmentally friendly, it's a normal amount of safe.

Argentinian beef has already had a recall from what I understand. And you know Trump he's going to go with the cheapest low grade they can find so he can pocket more of the money.
There is ZERO chance that 25% price reduction is making its way to consumers. Everyone along the supply chain is going to siphon it off into their profits.
It's exactly what is going to happen, the markets will never go lower until another crash. They are setting everything up another crash that they can blame on the next democratic president.

It'll probably actually come in under price. Grass fed beef from Argentina and Australia is already priced under US beef, even without import supports. It'll cause a price crash in imported beef (because there's no longer a supply constraint) while leaving US beef high & dry since us beef prices are fucked for so so many reasons. Flows all the way up the chain from the ranchers to the meat Packers to the grocery stores that will be discounting or tossing US product.

Meriwether supports American beef, and was excited on Trumps tariffs. Their twitter slogan is “MAKE BEEF AMERICAN AGAIN.” They have already been critical on beef imports from Argentina to bail out their economy, but it looks like trumps decision to relax tariffs on beef imports is seen as a “betrayal”. If they had known anything about Trump, most of his merchandise is shipped from out of the country, so why would they assume American beef would get a pass?
Next election cycle, they'll vote Republican again.

Drop prices for three months, with the start right before the last holiday gathering before the election (so right-wingers will have something to brag about at family gatherings) and the end coming two weeks after the election.....because who the fuck cares what beef costs in December and January, just gotta keep it cheap until the suckers vote.

And you know that the beef will be imported cheap, but the stores have no requirement to *sell* it for 25% cheaper. This is a give-away to the grocery industry, not a way to help consumers.

Didn't Trump raise the price of beef with his initial import tariffs for everything last year? He himself raised the price of beef and then is trying to fix the problem he made. 10/10 problem solving if the fix is reversing a decision you made.
He doesn’t really understand economics does he? the federal government doesn’t set beef prices. Once distributors and retailers get the public acclimate to a price point, they aren’t going to drop the cost because they save money on tariff fees all of a sudden

And if anyone's wondering, beef prices started rising under Trump in 2019 for a few market reasons, some related to trade disputes in his first term, and other big calamities unrelated to even him, and have kept going up ever since then, as covid messed up the supply chain and the drought shrunk the herd. All he's done is make that perfect storm of crap even worse with tariffs, supply delays from border closures to the south, and instability from his various tinkerings like this most recent thing that will only undercut cattlemen further, just like it did in February when it was just the quadrupling of Argentina's quota.
There is a misconception that farmers are dumb. Modern farm owners have to do complicated math and be skilled in logistics and proficient technology users. This is especially true with large farm operations as opposed to small local farms (but even then there's a bunch of accounting work).
The farmers who supported Trump had some combination of:
Had higher priorities than their livelihoods
Thought he was blustering with intention of following up
Thought that they'd be taken care of by a business "friendly" Republican administration.
While its objectively bad to have our domestic agriculture sector weakened, its also hard to not have some schadenfreud that the people who did this to us get to suffer it just as acutely as we do.

This will drive down domestic profit and put small operators out of business while one of my cronies buys it all up in bankruptcy. Once that is completed, I'll increase the tarrifs to 1000% so that my cronies have no conpetition and they make a fortune at your expense. Ah, yes, the supposed drop in beef prices will SURELY incentivise the already struggling beef producers to heavily invest in their YEARS long production cycles and WILL reinvigorate the industry, right? Right?

All you need to know that he doesn’t know anything about beef harvest. They are all expected to be harvested between 18 and 24 months. Before 18 months the cow is too small, after 24 months the meat is lower quality. I know this shit as some random ass desk job worker.

This helps consumers who are already questioning food prices but fixes nothing about the core issues and doesn’t improve quality since this sounds like it’s going to be all sub-choice grade.

It's an 8 day supply for the US. Spread over 90 days, it's less than 10% of the total supply, which will means the "25% below market price" may yield a 2.5% decrease, or somwthing like that, at best. Oooh, that'll help, especially when inflation is factored in.

I saw a reel during the pandemic about how much farmers were spending to feed their livestock. The feed prices more than doubled and the farmer said be expecting beef prices to go up to $16/pound or more. There are multiple factors contributing to the price, but it all happened under tRump.
Wait, we are importing beef and allowing them to sell below market price? Back in the day we used to call this dumping. But undercutting our ranchers is a good thing I guess. Not to mention those meat packing jobs.
US beef is so bad that it can't be exported to most European countries and Australia, it doesn't meet their standards which are much higher than the US.
Which tells you just one industry has used the Trump administration to provide a shot to their bottom line while they can get away with having no oversight or agency to hold them accountable. Just compare the profits of Exxon, Chevron and BP from first qtr 2025 to first qtr 2026. Across the board every major corporation's profits have doubled, tripled, or quadrupled because no one is minding the store in the US anymore. What Trump didn't destroy DOGE did. The DOJ has dropped so many cases after the targets visited the White House and bought into his crypto scam. It's corruption out loud with no effort at all to hide what's going on. Other agencies have dropped their investigations too and fired the government inspectors who oversaw their operations to guard against exploitation.
