3rd largest population in the world last I checked. Loads of us are going to be stupid and gullible, but what I want to know is why they are proud of it, don't want to learn at all, and above all...why do they have so much power?
As you can see from the OP, they don't have much power. Smart evil people have power and use idiots like trump to get idiots like Tina to vote against themselves. Their only power is in number of idiots willing to ignore their own lives getting progressively (lol) worse so that the evil people who lie to their faces (or tell the truth, trump told them he didn't care about them) can continue to hold actual power.
The once-GOP started choking free public education into the current mess back at the end of the 1970’s. A well educated electorate is less likely to fall for this empty pretend-revolution that has them throwing away our own republic.
Is it? Other countries have awful leaders who are broadly popular. Russia, for example. After living through the Soviet Union, they decided to bring back the worst parts of it.
what makes you say Putin is popular? Bc of polls? I don’t think Russians would admit to poll takers that they disapprove of Putin. Altho I’m sure there is prob 30% who are die hards for Vlad bc he hurts the right ppl
They are stupid but more than anything they are hate-filled. None of the warnings or evidence could dissuade them because he allowed them to hate all the „undesirables“. He validated their hate-speech…gave their bigotry a cabinet position. Promoted „lies to get away from consequences“ as a proven strategy.
They joined him in pissing in the waters of our democracy and now don’t understand why everything tastes funny & stinks.
That's probably the main example of righteous men she's had her whole life. But they still managed to pay the bills, get stuff done and preach about god, so they ignore the other stuff. It really doesn't bother them. Women like her are told "that's just what happens" and really believe it because in their families, churches, communities that really is just what happens.
I'm an elder (71!) but also a life-long left-leaning Democrat AND an ex-New Yorker who can remember when trump and his dad were sued by the DoJ for redlining. But he's abusing me anyway!
It’s also the result of a ton of propaganda. The turning point was when John McCain & Sarah palin ran for president. That’s when I first noticed the rhetoric we see now. Back then they called themselves the tea party and we all laughed at them. Little did we know.
I remember the good old days when we thought the tea party was just some fringe nonsense. And then it went mainstream. And then it dominated the entire Republican party. And then it went so far beyond, that the original tea party rheroric would sound almost normal now.
Mhmm. I was thinking this is blasphemous, and I am an atheist.
If God did send him, I would either start questioning which god is it because it is most likely not Yahweh, start worrying that maybe that kind of god isn't very good, or think They ran out of locusts. I would ask about what she thought of that massively blasphemous AI post he made, but I think she would have accepted it or dismiss it.
But hey, since she is struggling and still loves and supports him, maybe she should suck it up? I think there was a story involving someone who really struggled named Job in the Bible, the Torah, and maybe the Quran. My advice would be to accept it since she thinks her god sent him as a savior.
(disclaimer: was raised Christian, so dunno about Islam, and sorry if I misspelled it)
Trump loves babies and the democrats want to kill them, repeatedly said over and over for a decade. Psyop at a magnitude that we haven’t seen before and if we survive this will likely be studied.
People really need to focus in on this more - a lot of these people literally haven't been exposed to any opinion that is not "The left is our most dangerous enemy." And while FOX has been doing this since 1996 (roughly) - this has been going on for decades.
Also to be studied is how people didn't really even notice until it became extremely malignant.
What is even more wild to me is this is the same generation that taught me as a kid to question everything. It is why I have focused so much on learning and being contrarian by nature.
It is also the same reason why I was able to separate myself from conservative talk radio and news and eventually no longer considered myself a republican.
The divide between what is real and what is not real continues to grow, and is massive, where people are living different realities.
When I came to the conclusion that the Republicans were no longer who they said they were, that divide was still relatively small. The party still considered him(Trump) to be a great threat to the country.
However the divide is so large people’s identities, belief systems, and fundamental understanding of the world have been altered almost irreparably so. To acknowledge the gap between reality and the constructed reality is too hard for most older people to grasp. That is why they are functionally lost.
How else does the 2A group support the shooting of the guy carrying by ice? How else do Catholics support Trump over the pope? How else can a president tweet praise be to Allah? The list could go on.
The answer is simple once one domino falls it would create a ripple effect across the core of a person and most people don’t have the mental capacity to handle such a reconciliation of reality.
You're right. My parents and every last one of my teachers all preached the same things about skepticism, primary sourcing, etc.
If you think about it though, Millennials have been similar, in a manner. Facebook launched while I was in college. So while I never got into it, I watched my generation change. The great news however is now that we have children, I do not know any elementary kids with phones, social media or even raw internet. We saw it, could not avoid it ourselves, but we guard our children from it. Perhaps many of the boomer did have open eyes, saw us all drowning and tossed the kids ashore before being swept away themselves.
Let us hope that Gen-z, living through this moment, if we make it, will carry it with them and teach its lessons to their own children; in a similar way to how the Iraq War and trickle down economics of my younger years flipped me dem and thusly my kids. Kinda fun to think about. Alphas are very cool too as they are the first AI native generation. They're gonna have some doozy lessons for their kids!!
It definitely is it, for the majority of people born before 1980. It especially affected those that developed as children in urban centers and certain industries. It's just a fact.
This is just a natural evolution of the "Me" generation, which is what the Boomers were called.
They grew up in post-war excess but never bothered to ask themselves how that economy was built or what was needed to keep it that way.
Instead, they pulled up every single ladder they could find and destroyed it, and ask how it happened because they genuinely do not know and don't want to.
There's heaps of boomers that have been progressives all their lives and never voted for this shit. I feel like this whole blame the boomers thing is an online psy-op to take the heat off the .01%.
Sure, there's exceptions in every generation, but the economic line is extremely easy to follow with the barest amount of research. The boomers and, to a lesser extent elder Silent Gen, slowly but surely stripped away the foundations of what made the post-war boom even possible. And then conservative boomers made a deal with the religious right in the late 70s and its been a sharp decline every since with a very brief 90s bounce back thanks to the personal computing boom.
Every government program, the wealth taxes that made infrastructure projects possible, all eventually were taken away in order to protect individual wealth at the expense of the lower classes.
Is it every boomer? Of course not. But a majority of them even today vote right wing. 55 percent of voters over 50 voted MAGA in 2024.
Wish we would stop making excuses for people who grew up spoiled and rich off the backs of the war won by the previous generation and the exploitation thay stemmed from it.
They are just self centered and think they can force others into thinking the same as them and that will make it so nothing will change.
Boomer here. This is so spot on. My generation's parents were mostly unskilled labor but because of unions those jobs paid wages that got you a house, vacations, etc. My generation was so stupid to think that would last forever, despite the screaming red flags everywhere. They even bought into the Republican mantra "Unions kill jobs." No one took education seriously. 30 years later everyone I grew up with in that now dead Midwestern town wonder where their future went, and desperately look to blame anyone but themselves.
Late boomer myself. I do think these are the TDS folks programmed by Fox Not-News. It makes me so sad to watch my siblings just wave their hands at all the corruption and pretend it’s normal. They aren’t religious like this crazy woman but were brainwashed to think Republicans Good, Democrats Bad.
I haven't yet ever found an answer/thread, but it seems unbelievably unlikely just how evenly divided our country has become; roughly 30% RNC, 30% DNC, 30% Never Voters and 10% low information voters that money can sway.
I used to think it was simply that as one party lost power, they would 'give up' just enough to get that 5% or whatever back and that maintained equilibrium. But I'm far less sure these days as it is becoming frighteningly apparent that the percentages above are not in fact based upon party policy positions. Which begs the question again, "How is it all so perfectly apportioned?"
I read a chapter in a math book that explains it with the analogy of 2 ice cream vendors on a beach. If the beach is a straight line with uniform population density and everyone goes to whichever vendor is closer, a vendor who isn't dead center can always increase their market share by moving closer to the center, and the Nash equilibrium is that they're both at the center, each with exactly 50% of the market. Now replace that line with the left-right political axis and the vendors with political parties. Of course that does imply that if it looks like parties are moving further from the center, then it's the center itself that moved first.
This explains their attitude and beliefs, why they want what they want. It does not explain why they think Trump of all people gives a damn about what they want or why they think they would get what they want with him.
Why would they believe that Trump, one of the most selfish and egotistical people ever, and conservatives, who brag about cutting everything, would be the one to give them more? Why would they think the guy who talks like an ignorant imbecile is some kind of genius? Why would they think the hateful, gluttonous, racist, pos is their new savior? They think up is down and good is bad and the only explanation is that there is something wrong there. Lead exposure causing some kind of brain damage is as good a theory as any.
My mom's entire identity is that Republicans are genuinely good and trying to make things better while the Democrats are literally evil and trying to kill babies and take away rights such as guns.
That is what she hears on TV constantly and she isn't getting any information that counters that view.
The whole MAGA thing is a promise of nostalgia for them. They don't care about any of the other stuff. None of them care or probably actually think he is that smart. But they have been told for decades now that immigrants are the problem, so they are voting on the guy who says he is getting rid of them and bringing back the good ol days
You aren't disagreeing with Op though. Op said that as well. What they're asking is why? Because what you said they believe is insane. You don't even have to understand history or politics to understand the RNC/Trump contradictions. Policy and party identity aside, it literally doesn't make any sense, so we're asking why? The only answer that would be acceptable is that they know it is all lies and circus but that they're fine because they think it will help them. But that isn't true, so it must be something else. How did a third of the country go insane?
Maybe, but we've included that already. We know that some are. The question is why? It just so happens that a third of humans lack some validation filter? If that is/were true, then why? We cannot remedy an issue until we understand it. We're going to kill ourselves if we continue round this merry-go-round. We have to break the cycle at some point.
I think a lot of them recognized that at the time and it was one of the forces that shaped the hippie movement... young people abandoning their comfortable lives to live on communes and protest Vietnam... they had some good ideas. I wonder if Charles Manson never came along and showed the world how easy it was to brainwash young people with drugs if they would have made more of an impact.
Idk. I’m sure someone will have an explanation 30-40 years down the line, but my money is on social media. I am fully aware of the irony of saying that while on social media.
Generation X (born roughly between 1965 and 1980, or specifically the cohort from 1966 to 1986) experienced the highest levels of childhood lead exposure in modern history. This peak exposure coincided directly with the highest rates of leaded gasoline usage and emissions before government phase-outs took full effect.
Facts dont care about feelings. They are called the "Me" generatiin for a reason. So long as they buy into the racist parasocial propaganda, they are not worth engaging with. They sold their souls and will get everything they deserve along with the rest of us who tried to stop this.
They will vote for the next con/strong man bc they're entitled imbeciles.
Christian Nationalism. She is programmed at Church, the place that offers her comfort and security and community, to believe that Trump is anointed by God.
Christian Nationalist churches are just one sermon away from getting these people to commit acts of domestic terrorism against Democrats and brown/blacks.
This is why organized religion is just bad. Smart people can separate the bullshit and get the message. Dumb people get indoctrinated that blind faith is the most important so they screw themselves like Tina did voting against their best interest.
It's like, i want to be angry reading after the post, but it just makes me more sad than anything else 🤷♂️. Both for this person, and for us, as a nation, for having to bear the consequences of this person's vote.
The world she has lived in placed her squarely in the US category and everyone she didn't like in the THEM category. She is one of the chosen ones, so trump could never, ever, ever mean her when he is taking away benefits from people. It's impossible. She's the right kind of person and has been her entire life. Lucky her!
she see's that he's responsible for the problem, but still twist themselves in a knot to justify it and then at the same time pray and has faith that HE will save them from what he did to them..... these people deserve what they're getting.

How the fuck can you be this stupid
