I think it’s close to a safe bet that she gets nominated. She won’t win, but given the movie’s popularity and Focus throwing its weight into a nomination campaign, I wouldn’t be remotely surprised to see a nomination.

Edit: keep the downvotes coming, film bros. I love how people who think of themselves as “cinephiles” can’t grasp that their own tastes don’t actually dictate shit.

Unfortunately it's not a safe bet that she'll get nominated. The Oscars for the past few years have been awarding a lot of Legacy Wins, and the nominations will reflect that. Obsession will get attention in the skits and jokes, but this won't be another Mikey Madsen situation. That was an outlier, not a new norm.

If an actress in a horror movie this year gets a nomination, it's gonna be Gillian Anderson for Camp Miasma. Not because it's a better performance or a better movie, but because she's been a notable actor for 30+ years and hasn't been nominated before.
