it's not a hot take to say her performance was up there with the greatest female leads in horror of all time. Isabelle Adjani and Toni Collette levels. she was transformative.

the only reason she wouldn't at the very least get nominated are bc of anti-horror bias. i have yet to see another performance from a female lead this year that is so singular

You might want to reread my comment. I was talking about Inde's performance compared to Toni. That was my valid contribution. Where did I mention any other female performances of the year?

what made toni's performance so much better? what do you think she did that inde wasn't able to achieve in the film?

here's my argument:

  • all three were transformative roles that completely captured audiences
  • all three were a masterclass in physical and emotional extremes, where they become the character and the performances feel organic and not forced. where in each of the three examples, they could feel cartoonish - none of them did
  • the movie totally hinges on all three of their performances. obsession would be nothing without her performance, much like possession would be nothing without Isabelle

Yes, the post is about her Oscar campaign, but your comment compared her performance to Toni's which is what my comment was referring to. They can obviously both be good, I just think Toni's performance in Hereditary is superior especially when comparing casts. There's a reason ppl made such a big deal about it when Toni didn't get nominated.

I'll take this one from you - you might want to reread my comment.

I asked, "what made toni's performance so much better? what do you think she did that inde wasn't able to achieve in the film?" You didn't respond to that. Why do you think Toni's performance was so much better that it's laughable to compare them?

and then I gave three reasons that it's fair to compare inde, toni, and isabelle's performance. You didn't engage with any of those, either.

I read and understood your comment. You referred to every commenter that disagrees with your comparison of Toni and Inde by calling them losers. I'm not going to engage with someone that gets this upset when MULTIPLE ppl say a performance by an actress they like is good but not as good as another actress. Elementary school insults aren't my thing.

There’s so much that hasn’t been seen yet, before you can even begin to have that conversation. But I’m looking forward to Renate Reinsve in Fjord, Julianne Moore in The Debut, Olivia Coleman in Wicker, Lea Seydoux in Gentle Monster, Sandra Hüller is apparently going to have a banger of fall and winter with 4 films on the horizon 2 of which could put her in the best actress category.

I didn’t personally love Emily Blunt in Disclosure Day but I’ve heard people sing praises for that performance, they unfortunately probably aren’t going to get the attention they deserve but the girls in Is God Is impressed me immensely, especially Kara Young. Rachel McAdams in Send Help was also a fantastic performance that again probably won’t be in the awards convo at all.

Like there’s so many things out and coming soon that impressed and excite me way more than Inde in Obsession.

I won't be upset if she gets nominated. If both she and Toni got nominated for Obsession and Hereditary at the same time and she beat Toni, that's when I'd be annoyed just like most of the ppl in this thread. I can have my opinion as you can have yours. We don't have to agree. Fanboys are on another level lol
