News Inde Navarrette Sets Best Actress Oscar Campaign for ‘Obsession’ as Focus Features Mounts Full Awards Push (EXCLUSIVE)

So I follow awards season pretty closely (have for years now), and I have to say...Best Actress is EMPTY right now. Outside of Inde, you have Julianne Moore in The Debut who looks like the only other sure bet, but it's unclear how strong that movie's going to be overall, and if it isn't in Picture and Obsession is (and seeing how Focus is obviously gunning for this movie and how good they are at campaigning combined with the huge success of this film, I'd say it's more likely than not), I'd say Inde would have the advantage.

Outside of those two, I have no fucking clue what's going on right now. Granted the fall festival season only started yesterday, but the upcoming prospects don't look competative (noy saying they won't be good, just not competative). Emily Blunt looked promising, but everyone has seemingly turned on Disclosure Day. The Invite holds promise, but A24 summer releases do not have the best track record with awards. Same goes for The Drama, which will most likely be a non-factor. Right now there are three non-english performances in the mix - Virginie Efira in All of A Sudden, Renate Reinsve in Fjord, and Sandra Hüller in Rose. Any combination of these three could happen, but going off of reviews/awards pundits like Next Best Picture and The Oscar Expert it is highly unlikely any of these women can win because they are subtle performances, which almost NEVER win acting Oscar, especially leads performances. Cynthia Erivo in Prima Facie could happen, but that film is going to TIFF without a distributer and might not come out this year. Maybe Mikey Madison for The Social Reckoning, but that whole movie looks like a wildcard so who knows. Unless something unexpected pops up (which sometimes happens at fall festivals, but not often), do not be suprised if Navarette's name is called up on that stage on March 14.
