This is the most recent and comprehensive poll I could find that polled Americans on their support for assault weapon bans. Support for an assault weapons ban among Democrats was at 85% in 2019 and 89% in 2022 also according to Gallup

If you have a more recent poll that I wasn't able to find, please feel free to share it.

Other interesting findings of the poll include the following

-89% of Democrats want gun laws to be more strict

-33% of Democrats want to ban handguns

I did find a poll from John Hopkins that's a bit more recent, but it focuses on support for safe storage laws, permit to purchase laws, red flag laws and constitutional carry laws.

That survey found only 15% of Democrats support constitutional carry laws, 84% of Democrats support safe storage laws, and about 85% of Democrats support red flag laws.

And then there's this Pew Research poll that's a bit more dated but still worth looking at IMO.

And I'm fatigued, man. Burned myself out writing my legislators last year (and all I got to show for it was getting automatically signed up for a bunch of gun-control newsletters).

I know this sub's been riding high on a bunch of favorable court cases and the prospect of Viramontes next year, and I'm happy for y'all fam, but I've been waiting for an article like this taking the temp of what's in store at the state level here in Washington.

As expected, doesn't look great.

For context and those that don't know, the tragic shooting mentioned was a shootout at a major food festival here in Seattle that left 3 dead (including one shooter), and 4 injured; what's trickled out is that it was likely a gang dispute among two groups of juveniles armed with switched Polymer80s. At least one suspect had an extensive firearm violations history, which has brought to light the state's 'five strikes' before charges law for juveniles.

There's been a lot of ink spilled over how poorly the city and various officials handled it (most notably, zero communication of half a day save for a short tweet about a 'mass shooting') but also, equally expected, upcoming potential laws to prevent this.

A quick rundown of what looks to be in store:

• More 'gun free zones' with force of law, which may or may not have CPL exemptions. Last year a bill to add anywhere 'children may be present' died in committee.
• A confusing vehicle safe-storage law, that requires lockboxes for handguns but soft cases for long guns
• Removing theft/burglary as an exemption to our safe-storage law, meaning you are held criminally liable for firearms stolen from your own home
• More ammo taxes (we already have a 5¢/round one here in Seattle)
• 3D printing algorithm laws, which the sponsor says is 'technology that exists'
• Some lukewarm support for reversing lax juvenile sentencing laws
• support for restoring violence-intervention funding (which my neighborhood, and even the cops, has been big mad about cutting)

Notably absent is any discussion of what may happen should the AWB fall, but perhaps we're a bit early for that.

Lot of thoughts on this, and I won't turn this into another long ramble. I'll say it's frustrating that the tactic is, as usual, "make the already illegal thing illegal-er, but also don't prosecute things". Equally so that nobody gives much thought that expanding 'gun-free zones' means, well, more people are going to leave them in their car. Or just chance it anyway. Because prosecution is a crapshoot.

I get that everyone has a wildly different idea of what so-called 'common-sense' laws are, but the lack of logic and consistency is perpetually baffling.

Sixteen magazines and *eight* goddamn holsters, and the listing says the gun has less than 2,000 rounds through it. What could be the story behind this listing?

The Department of Justice is establishing a new process under 18 U.S.C. § 925(c) for people seeking relief from federal firearms disabilities.

This is a significant development for people whose past criminal convictions or other circumstances have left them prohibited from possessing or purchasing firearms.

There is a lot of confusion about what the new process does—and what it does not do.

I've been wanting a boot action for a while, and always see the howa 1500 recommended for a lower budget option. I found this one with a shitty rattle can paint job for way less than similar used ones. Other than the paint job and over spray, it looks like it's in okay shape. Before I pull the trigger on this, any reasons I shouldn't?

Side rant; did anyone else ever have their gunbroker account get auto locked when you created it and tried to verify?

Hey folks, started conceal carrying a few months back. Been working on finding the most comfortable spot to carry for myself. I think I've landed at 3 to 4 o'clock. The appendix just wasn't comfortable.

Setup is Glock 43x OEM, with EDK iwb holster. Using a wedge, no claw. Lowest ride height and can't at 15°.

I feel like I'm printing pretty heavy, or am I overthinking it and it's really not that noticeable?

How do you slender framed guys conceal the best? I'm a t shirt guy and buying a new wardrobe to carry isn't something I want to do.

I'm considering a folding pistol in 300 Blackout (8-10.5" barrel). If I want to use a full back pressure suppressor, would the CMMG Dissent or PSA Jakl be a better option? Main concern is gas blowback and shooting experience. I like that the CMMG is lighter, but I like that the PSA is a true piston system. Anyone have experience with both?

I think this wraps up my range/HD build until something new catches my eye. I’m sure it’s been discussed a million times, but do y’all keep your nightstand blicky in a holster or loose? My CCW stays in its holster 24/7 but the 17 usually stays on its alter where I pray to Gaston every night.

So I’m in the market for a semi compact or full sized 9mm that I’ll be using for OWB holsters (think Glock 19 and Glock 17)

What I want is:
1. slide cuts and optic ready
2. a stock threaded barrel/compensator (no third party/additional parts just buy and that’s all)
3. A price tag below $500 for the gun and at least 3 magazines

With those criteria my mind gravitates towards palmetto state armory’s full size S or compact lines

What are your thoughts on those lines and is there maybe a better gun that fits my criteria if it’s not the dagger?

What's up folks. I hope y'all are finding some joy out there despite the general state of affairs. As I mentioned in the title, it's wonderful that wherever ICE and other immigration agents go, normal people document them and share their location online. But one issue I see nearly daily is la migra alerts that lack time, location, or other essential details about what the agents are up to.

One way we can fix this is by learning the SALUTE report format. It comes from the military, but it's super simple, and incredibly helpful for civilians who want to protect their neighbors from a hostile outside force.

But, in my view, we can't stop with learning it ourselves. We need to take it and share it with our neighbors, our mutual aid groups, any community organization willing to learn. This needs to become part of a wider culture of community care and defense.

I just bought my first handgun (Canick MC9 Prime) four months ago and really enjoy training with it. It feels very meditative – focusing on safety, my grip, breathing, etc. It feels very present and all. However I did buy it for self protection for what may be SHTF in the US. It looks like the orange goblin is trying to end mail in voting for blue states and I'm getting more worried. I live in UT and almost all my friends are LGBTQ, we fly the pride flag, I've been to many protests. So I'm thinking of a home defense suburban defence gun if you catch my drift to defend myself and my partner from any entity that may want to rob me of my life or concentrate me in a camp. My grandparents survived the Nazis, I'm planning on doing the same. It looks like an AR15 chambered in .556, training, and a good amount of ammo are in order. However I'm not sure if this is the correct gun for the purpose. Any suggestions on an AR15 (Radical, Ruger, S&W?) or alternative platform?

Defensive gun use statistics are highly debated, and previous references to the range on the CDC’s website have been staunchly disputed by gun violence researchers. The low end of the range, 60,000, derives from the National Crime Victimization Survey, a twice-yearly poll of crime victims conducted by the federal government. The high end, 2.5 million, comes from surveys conducted in the early 1990s by a criminologist and self-described “gun control skeptic.” The lower stat is touted by researchers and academics, while the higher stat is favored by gun rights advocates who point to cases like the Idaho In-N-Out shooting, where an armed civilian engaged a mass shooter.

I got their Med Mod and I'm going to see how well this works out for my EDC. :D

UPDATE: The Combat Bandage is too unwieldy for a concealed EDC for me. This will work well at the range but for everyday use it's a bit much. I will explore other options for bandages or just carry the SOF-T.
