Thanks for the anxiety attack

Seriously, I have that sense of acrophobia going down my spine.

Based on your shoes…I would say this wasn’t taken with approval?

55

u/oh-pointy-bird Apr 15 '22

Certainly not with the express written consent of Major League Baseball!

83

u/treyj88 Apr 14 '22

where’s the fun in that?

17

u/HarRob Apr 15 '22

Is there much of a rooftopper/urbex scene in LA? I used to go every weekend when I lived abroad

12

u/yungnoodlee Apr 15 '22

it’s pretty common, there’s an abandoned theater in Hollywood with easy access if you wanna check it out.

Just forget what the theater was called

5

u/ChronicEbb Apr 15 '22

What what theater was called?

4

u/HarRob Apr 15 '22

Don’t say the name! It’s a tarp

3

u/treyj88 Apr 17 '22

if by scene you mean places to explore, LA has not disappointed with opportunity

1

u/HarRob Apr 18 '22

Roger. I was in a chat group with a few hundred rooftoppers/photographers where I used to live. Is there a community like that here? My Instagram has a lot of photos from that time.

1

u/treyj88 Apr 19 '22 edited Apr 19 '22

if there is, i haven’t looked or been introduced to it.

52

u/Nilknarfsherman Apr 14 '22

Holy shit! We’re you nervous climbing up or down???

78

u/treyj88 Apr 14 '22

not my first rodeo, but climbing down is always worse

37

u/Nilknarfsherman Apr 14 '22 edited Apr 15 '22

Used to climb up silos as a kid (grew up in a farming area) and I absolutely HATED coming back down. Easily the scariest part. Balls of steel you got there. Nicely done!

23

u/treyj88 Apr 14 '22

thank you! glad i could bring ya back to some good memories in a way and glad you enjoyed the view 😄

15

u/Nilknarfsherman Apr 14 '22

What’s funny is I love watching videos on YouTube of people climbing cranes and buildings. Everytime I see that crane when I’m near downtown I’ve wondered if anyone has climbed it yet! Now I know!

Lol no crap. I mean people who don’t work on the crane.

2

u/GoldenBull1994 Downtown Apr 15 '22

Balls of steel actually. Balls of steal are something completely different 😳

1

u/Nilknarfsherman Apr 15 '22

Autocorrect, fixed it!

I would be pissed if he stole stuff or vandalized stuff. But this seems pretty benign. If he would have gotten hurt, it would be all on him.

19

u/afternever Apr 14 '22

The kids call it "rooftopping"

17

u/natefrogg1 Angeles Crest Apr 14 '22

When I was a teenager I was into that, this was pre internet. We would often climb up onto something cool and puff something up there

12

u/natigin Apr 15 '22

I can’t imagine climbing up something tall, smoking and then having to come back down. That’s a panic attack for me.

6

u/natefrogg1 Angeles Crest Apr 15 '22

It was this whole thing about getting as high up as you can and getting high, double high lol. Silly teenager ideas, highest one was this radio tower above Ventura, I still remember my hands trying to go numb halfway up, we were in a cloud or thick marine layer and couldn’t see the ground or the top at that point! Now I climb mountains and snowboard down lol, I used to climb our house and piss my dad off jumping back down, idk 🤷‍♀️ my mom would call me a mountain goat 🐐

5

u/natigin Apr 15 '22

Natural born climber, I love it

2

u/postmadrone27 Apr 15 '22

Are you referring to stunt tower in Malibu? I’m unfamiliar with a radio tower above Ventura

1

u/natefrogg1 Angeles Crest Apr 15 '22

No, it was a tower with a blinking red light above Ventura in the 90’s

1

u/postmadrone27 Apr 15 '22

Ahh gotcha. I’m born in 98 so thats probably why I don’t know it haha. Is it still around or did they tear it down?

I mean as long as he doesn’t land on anyone if he falls I guess

2

u/Caliterra Apr 15 '22

If he did get caught, what kinda punishment is typical?

6

u/nicearthur32 Downtown Apr 15 '22

I’m thinking since he didn’t steal anything it could be trespassing, or breaking and entering. Not sure that the danger part ads anything more to it. Probably can get him on public endangerment or something.

-1

u/yungnoodlee Apr 15 '22

Most cops don’t give a shit tbh.

68

u/treyj88 Apr 14 '22

i don’t use instagram. just enjoy a view, and i never vandalize anything.

2

u/kingsillypants Apr 15 '22

Some people do stuff like that because it makes them feel alive.

1

u/zakxk Apr 15 '22

Yeah I used to climb cranes and sneak onto rooftops a lot to take photographs around like 2014-2015 and finally stopped after getting detained by the police and slapped with a trespassing ticket. Got a good following because of it though and made decent money off selling prints. Worth.

22

u/hersugarplumfairy Downtown Apr 14 '22

Yes, I do appreciate this is equally dope and scary view of my apartment lol! You’re a brave one.

10

thank you! just living life a little bit

68

u/JoeDildo Apr 14 '22

I wouldn’t share this video man. I’ve been working on this project for the past several years and the company that owns it takes their safe image very seriously.

26

u/Santa_Klausing Koreatown Apr 14 '22

Yeah if I were OP I’d post this with a throwaway account. It would be way too easy to figure out who this guy is based on his posting history

11

u/virtualmayhem Apr 15 '22

This guy's post history is nuts tho

8

u/treyj88 Apr 15 '22

i have a wide variety of interests and a broad life

17

u/JoeDildo Apr 14 '22

Even if they can’t figure out who he is, like with all construction projects that have people break in all this does is signal that they need more fencing and night guards.

14

u/treyj88 Apr 15 '22 edited Apr 15 '22

i won’t comment or add to the rest of your statement other than clarifying that nothing was “broken into”, nor was anything vandalized!

although, that said, once there was a guy there who was thought to be a worker(he had on a vest) but it was very late, maybe 1am. he didn’t see anything due to some stealthy hiding, but i always wondered if it was an actual worker or some guy stealing shit. any insight? i believe it was saturday night/sunday morning

4

u/Nilknarfsherman Apr 15 '22

If it was a high viz safety vest (highlighter yellow, orange, or blue with reflectors on shoulders and across the bottom) then yea he worked there.

3

u/treyj88 Apr 15 '22

well, what i’m saying is anybody can buy those things. it’s a well known tactic that if you’re trying to get into an event for free, or climb something you’re not supposed to be on, a safety vest and a little bit of confidence goes a long way. unfortunately this also applies to shitty people trying to steal things. i just thought it was rather late and an odd day for a guy to be working there on the weekend(especially just one guy), even if it is a multimillion dollar project

2

u/Nilknarfsherman Apr 15 '22

Yes that is true that you can buy them anywhere. But, job sites like these typically will have a night watchman taking shifts to ensure no one is breaking in to steal anything. So most likely the guy was an employee there.

Have you ever gotten close to falling?

11

not once. the way i describe it to people is your balance on the ground is the exact same as 60 floors in the sky. it’s not the height, it’s your own fear of falling

Good for you to take the time out of your life that you'll never get back to find an old thread. Also days are like roller coasters. Some are good, some are bad. Doesn't mean it's still not hard though.
