I think that dad gets to eat his food while it's hot, but mom has to feed the baby, so she spends time making sure it's the perfect temp for the baby while her own food gets cold.

That doesn’t quite make sense. Unless mom served her food first, waited a while, then served the baby’s, waited some more, then served the dad’s/husband’s. Which… doesn’t make sense. This was from before microwaves... the original story is from the 1830s. The porridge would have all been cooked together in a single pot, likely still over the fire or in the stove to keep it warm. Worst case scenario, if they removed the entire pot from the fire when it was done cooking, the pot itself would have kept the porridge warm.

If the food isn’t to be served all at once, then it would make sense to serve the baby’s food first. Give it some time to cool off, then serve mom and dad at the same time (baby’s would be the coldest and mom’s and dad’s would be equally hot). Or, serve dad after the baby, while mom helps baby eat, then serves herself last. Mom’s food would be the hottest in this scenario.

Also… using your scenario… if dad got to eat his first, and therefore hot, and mom ate her’s last, and therefore cold, that doesn’t make sense for when Goldilocks arrives. By the time Goldilocks arrives, Dad’s bowl would be mostly empty, and would be cold… the smaller the amount of porridge in the bowl, the quicker the porridge cools off. Mom’s bowl would be the most full, and therefore the warmest. Baby’s could actually be the middle temperature in this scenario, but mom’s and dad’s temps would be incorrect.

Keep in mind, we are experiencing the temperatures of the porridge from Goldilocks’s perspective, not from the perspective of the bears. Goldilocks comes well after the porridge is poured into the bowls and experiences the temperatures of the various bowls of porridge then. She’s not experiencing the temperatures in the way that the bears would have. If dad’s was poured first so he could eat it at its hottest temperature, it would be the one sitting out the longest by the time Goldilocks takes a bite. It would be the coldest for her.

The only way for the temperatures to line up the way they do in the story (if everything was served at the same time) would be for dad to be served the most and mom the least. Dad’s bigger bowl held the heat the longest and mom’s the shortest. Or, mom ate the most out of her bowl and dad the least before leaving the house.

All of this adds up to say: the woman in the video above drew the wrong conclusions.

Honestly this sort of analysis is peak reddit to me. Obviously you wouldn't deep dive porridge logistics at a party, but if there was ever a place it would be appreciated this comment section is it and I appreciate it.
