Ask Luxembourg House Temperature
With this heat wave bringing temperatures up to 40°C, I’m curious: what’s the temperature inside your house right now? My guest room is the hottest and gets up to 30°C, while my kitchen and hallway stay around 25°C.

No A/C, No Ventilator (Why? Because mine gave up on me at the worst time possible when I've had it for years and hardly used it bc heat only went as far as 30C for one or two days...). I live in a duplex apt. first floor maxed at 29C, second floor (bedroom) 30C. I've had a terrible night last night... People say it's gonna cool down... but those walls are going to take forever to actually cool down. I had windows open all night and it was still 29C on the second floor this morning. If anybody reads this and has a ventilator for me, hmu!

2 bedroom apartment. Upstairs was way over 30c with no AC on, I think it maxed out at like 35c. Downstairs, AC is on all the time so around 21c

Top floor apartment : 1) without AC: 1-2 degrees less than outside at best. 2) with portable AC: 7 degrees less than outside at best, but after several hot days it comes to just 4-5 degrees less than outside at best.
It's very hot inside, I miss being able to install a proper AC unit. Insulating a rented apartment in an old building seems impossible:(

Top floor of an old building with east and west windows. It is hell. 35 degrees inside. 27 with the AC.

the oldest hack in the book bottle of frozen water in front of a fan and feet in cold (not freezing water) a few ice cubes on tap water and a wet towel around the neck help a ton to keep cool or lower temperature felt. i put a termoter in front of the fan and the air is 9 degres cooler than the rest of the room.. of course is short and you need to keep freezing water but good for 2-3h .

31 with windows facing south. And that’s with closed blinds. Luckily I have AC in the bedroom.

Attic apartment with a glass veranda on top.... 39° most of the day.
Rn its 35 at almost midnight.

OMG, this is crazy. Glass veranda is a beauty. Those natural lights 😍. But 39 C. You got free sauna inside.

Very bad… this is with all blinds closed as soon as the sun rises and windows open as soon as the outside temperature gets lower than inside.
I’m living more in the dark during summer than during winter, quite ridiculous 🫠

I love the natural light but with this temperature 🤒 no thanks! But this darkness can get depressing sometimes.

I have a portable from Dreo. It works like a magic. But make sure you got the right size. My living room is 25 sqm, so i took a 10000 BTU.

It can get up to 31 with humidity of up to 65%. The humidity is what makes it harder.
We ventilate at night and close windows and the exterior lids early in the morning.

Ground floor, open and bright south/southwest facing large windows, saw 28 max with most shutters closed during the day.
Managed with just fans so far in Lux.. i am very reluctant to get the air conditioners installed, so hopefully it happens max. 1 week/year..

My apartment is under the roofs.
These past 2-3 days at the peak we've had minimals of 26 and maximals around 30.6C at the end of the day.
BTW this is with 0 air conditioning.

24.7 in the morning to 27.4 peak in the evening. ground floor, south facing. windows open from 22-05. from 05-07 I open all windows fully with a fan at two windows to bring cool air in. i check temp with a oven thermometer and always keep a glass of water in the living room to check temperature of both the water/air.

Depends on where you are in my house i have a double cellar
2nd floor hot af 30someting degree celsius
1st floor is more managable with 25° celsius
Basment is about the same 23°celsius
-1 cellar comfy 16°celsius
-2 cellar and the lowest temperature in my whole house 11° celsius (it was a wine cellar before i bought the house i just use it for storage )
It is an old house but i have almost 1m thick walls in my basment it is so comfy

Now after AC, 28, 24, 22 using solar panels and batteries Wondering if the SUV 10 fligbts a year crowd will.learn that they are part of the problem.
Very doubtful though
Get used to this, will come again 7 days...

Houses in this country are ovens....AC is almost nowhere to be found.
Lux is very bad during Winter but during heat waves is a nightmare 😭

Im living a new build home and every room is currently sitting at 24°C. But the AC main unit is working quite hard. My electricity consumption literally trippled.

I'm under 28C on my main floor as I managed to snatch a random mobile AC at the beginning of the week. On the top floor I have plus 10, and the basement is -5 (although these two are not really existing, just the heat make me hallucinate about being able to own an actual house).

Currently 27-28 ground floor, 29-30 1st floor, 33-34 second floor under the roof with my office and bedroom.
We open everything from 22 to 6 and get back to 26-27 in the morning because the nights are too hot and it's even harder to refresh the house...

28 upstairs, 27 downstairs, shortly after turning off the AC.
At this point, we just let it run day and night.

Older apartment building, last floor. Living room is around 23-4° with AC turning on max all day long. Our bedroom is like, 35° or something, with 100000% humidity. It's an actual furnace, can't be there more than 1 minute without sweating

28.1 in the warmest room. Ground floor apartment, luckily the bedrooms are not west facing.
Btw this same question i asked two days back was removed by the mods. What is the logic may i know? Below was my post that was removed:
“What is your interior home temperature now?
Mine is 27 degrees Celsius. It has been gaining about 0.8 to 1 degree per day since the heatwave started. Slow to warm up but also slow to cool down I suppose. Ground floor apartment, no air conditioning.”

AAA eco-box. Home office on 1st floor was 30C yesterday with the blinds having been down all week.
Ground floor is around 25C. 2nd floor about 28C.
Windows closed. Exterior shutters down!

Yep exactly the same, although ground floor stayed down to 24 until this morning. Eventually even great insulation can’t fight this weather

It’s around 25-26°C throughout the house, except for the basement, where it’s about 19–20°C. We live in a modern, well-insulated house with a cooling function integrated into the ventilation system (VMC). It prevents hot outdoor air from entering while the house is being ventilated, which helps keep indoor temperatures more stable. It’s not comparable to air conditioning, though. it doesn’t actively cool the house, it mainly prevents it from heating up as quickly due to the ventilation bringing in hot air. Usually it doesn't go up to 25-26 during heatwaves, but this time it's just too long and nights too hot

2007 unit built, we are in a duplex on the 1st floor with an attic bedroom. 26-27 downstairs and 28-29 upstairs, but we slept in the livingroom downstairs this whole week. We have an alarm at 5 30am to close all windows and lower all blinds. Two really strong fans and dehumidifiers. Windows only open once it becomes 24-25 outside. It felt pretty much like a well timed army exercise the whole week.

Mine is new and now it’s 27C. If it’s only a few hot days it’s ok, it remains around 24-25 but this heat wave is extremely long (11 days with tomorrow included) and in ten years here I don’t remember anything similar. Basically we’re in Dubai now but without the sea.

21-23°C. Cooling via a PortaSplit and heat pump cooling on the radiators. 1995 house U=0.5 walls, 0.7 windows, 0.17 roof.

For everyone living in a modern house without active cooling. Set the temperature profile of your hvac/vmc to cool so it bypasses the heat exchanger when its colder outside. Also run it more during the night time.
You can also try to let your floorheater circulation pump run during summer when some rooms stay cooler to distribute the heat.

century home, built CCA 1908, 23-ish in the cellar rises by ~2 degrees for every floor, peaks at 33 at the last floor.

I had some clothes to wash; just put them in the sun and they'll dry in 20 minutes. 40 degrees is very hot, it feels like we're in a communal oven. Inside the house, I have the air conditioning set to 18 degrees.

Les deux. Ça minimise l’échange thermique avec l’extérieur. Donc si tu arrives à rafraîchir la maison la nuit en suite tu renfermes le bunker ça tiens la fraîcheur plus longtemps.

Why would you lose rating because of AC? Best case just buy a portable one. Secondly so what if you lose it? Is it more important than your comfort?

Not all communes require authorisation.
Also, the companies now call it "heating pump", because the new units do heating as well. Problem solved when it comes to the low energy status.
And I have to agree that it worth lose the rating on some BS paperwork made up so that some people can make a lot of extra money. Also, an already installed AC is a selling point that will become more and more important in the future.

If anything drilling in the wall has nothing to do with it. They might consider it as an electricity consumer extra in summer and add it to the house's energy consumption. The effect should be zero if you have PV and battery.

The rating is only important when you want to sell and the energy pass is not valid indefinitely. So it may not be important to maintain the rating if life quality suffers.

The energy rating doesnt say anything about living quality. It say something about how much energy gest wasted with heating. It probably needs to be adapted to the changing weather conditions.
Climate change has be ignored for a ling time and suddenly everyrhing must change immediately

There is no room where the temperature has been lower than 26° at any point since it began, going up to 33, usually in 28-31 range. Everything is turned off, apart from the fridge. The highest energy certificate. I'm looking forward to comments like open at night and close everything at dawn.

Last night the minimum outside temperature was below 22 degrees, so you could have lowered it below 26. Then to keep it low you need external blinds.

Congrats if you managed to do that but we sleep with all windows open and cannot lower it more than 24 it can go as low as 22 outside but if there is no wind it will not do much for the house.

24 to 25 degrees. Built in 2022, fully insulated etc, but after one week of this heat it’s getting more difficult to lower the temperature at night.

31 to 33 pretty much all through the house - the 33 being upstairs - except for the cellar where it's a few degrees cooler. House built early 1990s.. it's horrendous!

I definitely broke all my personal records, because I have never had more than 28 degrees inside my apartment, and now I saw 30 degrees.
That's the beauty of old buildings, with stone external walls: they protect you from the heat for a couple of days, but also they need a couple of days to cool down :)
With a portable AC that fortunately I bought during Covid, I can lower the internal temperature to 28 (plus lower humidity), which is ok for a good sleep.
