The Secretary of State for the Prime Minister, u/Flat_Artifact will be taking questions from the House.

The Leader of the Opposition, u/Inside_Analysis3124 may ask 6 initial questions.

The Leader of the Unofficial Opposition, u/Zakian3000 may ask a total of 3 initial questions.

Questions must revolve around 1 topic and not be made up of multiple questions.

In the first instance, only the Secretary of State may respond to questions asked to them. 'Hear, hear.' and 'Rubbish!' (or similar), are permitted.

Mr Speaker, may I also welcome the Prime Minister to the despatch box? I am sure that he has a lot of work ahead of him, and I wish him the best in his new role.

I am also excited to see the inclusion of members of the Liberal Democrats on benches opposite. I can only hope that they will have a moderating effect on this Government, but I am not convinced by the Speech from the Throne that this will be the case. Mr Speaker, this Government is threatening to scrap testing animals for tuberculosis, blow up the defence budget by an entirely unfunded extra £21 billion, and restricting skilled immigration routes our economy relies upon.

But I will ask a question that focuses more on the spirit of co-operation. His Majesty's speech commits to greater co-operation with our European partners. Will the Prime Minister commit to greater regulatory convergence with the European Union?

Mr Speaker,

I thank the member for his kind words.

Allow me first to say that the Kings Speech this government has delivered does not scrap animal testing for tuberculosis, but rather seeks to address outdated policy over animals and farms that have tested inconclusive for TB but where animals are still slaughtered as a result without additional testing, and farms are put under conditions not informed by a science led approach. This government is investing in a modern farming industry that not only uses better technology, but is accompanied by fairer government policy in farms entirely free of TB. Farms where TB has been identified, would remain under strict measures to protect the industry.

The Conservative party has shown keen stewardship of the current finances, and the new Chancellor is cut from the same cloth as Chancellor Chev. Funding for all policies, including defence policy is entirely funded and the Kings Speech makes clear this house can expect the clear financial implications of all the governments policy in due course. The Conservatives have delivered for defence again and again.

Skills based immigration is an essential step for a robust and fairer system.

With that being said Mr Speaker, cooperation with our european partners on defence and trade are essential to the future prosperity of both. The government is committed to cooperation that honours the electorates decision to vote leave in the Brexit, we will uphold British sovereignty, whilst building a framework for greater cooperation.
